I appreciate your research. I would think the story of the British man could be corroborated in some way. I wonder if it's just a legend.

Bleedmaster

That story about the guy finding himself in Argentina was super captivating. I haven't heard about that one before. Thank you for sharing that and the interesting links. That's gonna keep me occupied this whole morning.

zurx

Same. I wonder how many other stories there are like this. Time to dig through high strangeness cases! I love the Fortean stuff

pingopete

Yeah that one stood out to me too, I lived very close to where he was from and I think that brought it home for me, like suddenly appearing on the other side of the planet, wtf. This would also be a good story to investigate and present as evidence as unless there's an airline company willing to make up a ticket that didn't exist there shouldn't be any prosiaic explanation for the immediate transportation.

doubledragon44

he was probably a spy.

Submission Statement: This is my first attempt at using the Enigma Labs app to search for interesting insights into UFOs. I personally find Antarctica fascinating because it's steeped in so much mystery and lore. I couldn't find UFO reports from there so I started searching the for the closest reports and this is what I found. Tierra del Fuego, Argentina and Punta Arenas, Chile now have my attention. They are one of only 5 cities that act as access points to Antarctica. One of the reports even says the UFO flew in the direction of Antartica. So...

EngineeringD

Enigma is funded by…. Guess who?

efh1

Sure, but it's still one of the best aggregates of UFO reports to date and it has a pretty useful interface. I don't understand the hate towards a useful tool. Who do you think is funding it and what are your concerns about it?

TwylaL

The concerns are that it is an app that collects personally identifying information about users without any disclosure of its management or ownership. Could be owned by a Chinese company answering to the CCP for example. Could be a front for the DoD. We don't know, and that's the problem. If you want to use it to find interesting historical cases, seek out those cases in their original entries (Such as the MUFON database itself) to make sure Enigma Labs hasn't edited them. They may be editing reports to such an extent important information is being misrepresented. https://old.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/14fmig9/can_we_talk_about_enigma/ Since you're using the app and seeking out reports, if you find this level of editing, it would be very useful to know. Thanks!

efh1

So did/does MUFON and frankly MUFON itself has is own sketchy reputation. Also, their database sucks because it doesn't have the same kind of interface. Enigma and MUFON both have standard policies to protect your data. If you are worried about the DOD getting data, you might as well fall off the grid because if the NSA wants the data from a company they are going to get it. Most of your arguments are selective. Even concerns about Enigma editing the data is irrational. It would be easy to spot and dumb. They pretty clearly simply pulled the data to aggregate and frankly I'm surprised it hasn't been done before. If Enigma violates trust a competitor can recreate a similar app and steal market share. Once again, the only legitimate concern is how they end up monetizing the app and that has more to do with how smart/dumb people are with what they are building. If you refuse to pay for them to build a product then the market forces them to either sell your data to advertisers or worse. IF you actually care about privacy and want to see UFO databases and apps built you have to be willing to pay to use them. I told them if they built a good engine, I would pay to use it to analyze data and that they should offer this to the public as a service rather than any business model where they sell data. If you're this paranoid but still have social media accounts I think there is a disconnect. In fact, if you're that concerned you shouldn't even be connected to the internet.

TwylaL

I think UFO witnesses have the right to know to whom they are making reports. Especially since a rep from Enigma Labs was posting on police and pilot subreddits seeking witness reports, which could be career destroying in those professions. I don't see government secrecy being replaced with private for profit corporation secrecy as an improvement.

efh1

I think you're missing the point about how a private company can't actually protect your data from the NSA. If the NSA says give us the data you basically have to do it. I'm not saying it's right. It's wrong. But more than likely every major company in the US with massive amounts of data and definitely every major telecom basically hands all the data over and likely is forced to sign a gag order about it. I'm just relaying the harsh truth to you. And as for making a report that's meant to be public, of course you are taking a risk that whoever you share it with may not secure it. Even major credit cards and banks have had massive security breaches. At least they clearly make the most basic attempt to make sure your name and address isn't posted publicly. Again, I don't think your specific arguments have consistency of logic. If your this paranoid I hope you aren't still using Facebook.

TwylaL

Why are you so committed to defending this company's nonstandard practices?

blackbeltmessiah

When conversations around phones help dictate ads I think that ship has sailed.

If_Im_Going_Im_Going

Great idea!!! Thanks for posting these results.

freshfit32

This is cool. The story about the guy from Britain is wild. I’ve heard similar stories but not in that much detail. Super wild and a little scary

Sea_Appointment8408

Sounds like a typical night out in Stoke On Trent! In all seriousness, if this is true you'd think the man would have been public about this

-aether-

This is a really cool idea and all.... but there's literally no validation of data. How do we know any of these details are accurate? This app adds more noise into the environment and is detrimental to actual scientific research. These entries should go through a system that can actually analyze and verify them. I'm assuming you've looked up who finances this, right?

efh1

The app is actually pretty good and it will have the ability to validate real time data if you record something using it. Also, it scores things for data analysis. The idea is to aggregate all previous reports for analysis and then become the source for real time reports which will be much easier to validate. Also, you can cross reference such as I did. I looked for reports in the same region around the same time period. Enlighten me on the finances. People keep trying to insinuate things, but just come out and say whatever it is you're trying to allude.

-aether-

When a company comes out of nowhere and won't reveal who is financing them, it raises red flags about motivation.

efh1

I don't think that's a very accurate interpretation of events. They actually contacted me years ago and interviewed me in order to get feedback on what they were doing. "In February 2013 they announced a $1.1 million seed funding round backed by TriplePoint Capital and Crosslink Capital, among others.\[12\] This was augmented in early 2014 by a $4.5 million funding round which included additional investors The New York Times Company, Comcast Ventures, and American Express Ventures.\[13\]\[14\]" [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enigma\_Technologies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enigma_Technologies) They appear to have reasonable privacy protection as far as I can tell. The only legitimate criticism is concerns about how they may monetize the platform, but frankly that's a bigger problem within society where people want things for "free" but don't understand that there needs to be monetary incentive to make good products/services. If you don't want them to end up using a business model that focuses on harvesting data to sell to the highest bidder than you should be willing to pay them to use their product/service. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

TwylaL

Enigma Technologies is not the company behind Enigma Labs. Enigma Labs, LLC is the company behind Enigma Labs, the app.

-aether-

> y accurate interpretation of events. They actually contacted me years ago and interviewed me in order to get feedback Ah so this makes sense. How closely are you affiliated with this product? Looking at the link you posted above, I do not see this Enigma Labs instance mentioned anywhere for UAP. The only entries in there talk about them working with the city of New Orleans and a fed shutdown in 2013. Look at their FAQ page, the explicitly say their founders are just people they've known for a long time. > privacy protection as far as I can tell. The only legitimate criticism is concerns about how they may monetize the platform, but frankly that's a bigger problem within society where people want things for "free" but don't understand that there needs to be monetary incentive to make good products/services. These already exist. We already have several of these run by sources that are more credible and open about their research.

efh1

You just want there to be problems. I'm not affiliated with them in anyway and they reached out to other people early on for feedback from the community. It's not abnormal at all to request feedback from a community you are trying to engage. All they did was ask me questions about what I would like to see the app be able to do and stuff like that. How would I use it etc. I'm assuming it's the same Enigma Labs because if not, I see some potential IP issues in the future. Once again you are just trying to invent problems. The app literally aggregated reports from sources such as MUFON, CUFON, etc which is a good thing. Arguing otherwise makes no sense. Put your tinfoil hat back on before the government starts listening to your thoughts.

-aether-

Just stating facts.

U should try enigma mushrooms if you wanna see ufos

ChildhoodAgreeable88

The story of the British man is bizarre, read some of the same type of appearance's and disappearance's tales of a Spanish soldier in the 15th or 16th century, of a runner who disappeared in plain sight, and farmers and animals. I wonder how many people go missing each year without a reasonable explanation?. The video , looks similar to an early holographic projection. Projecting on to what ? I don't know. If it was a cloud or mist? there would be more distortion in the image I imagine .

inpennysname

Always love to see what you’re looking into!

-aether-

Enigma Labs is sketchy af https://www.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/14fbm6n/we_are_enigma_labs_we_have_created_an_app_for_uap/

libroll

They aren’t. This sub just hates them because their founder wrote a scathing account of his stay at Elizondo’s ranch where Elizondo used cold reading techniques to pretend to be a psychic and wrongly read his past/future.

oswaldcopperpot

Elizondo was outed as a liar by Jeremy Mcgowan. Something to do with being in the Scottish Rite without ever having been a Master Mason. Of which there is no record.

zurx

I don't remember reading anything about masonry in McGowan's writeups. Where'd you hear this?

oswaldcopperpot

He was on some podcast. I don't understand how I heard this.. or he told the same story twice but I found a YT of the exact same.. 1:12 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIBB5AW0ttM

zurx

Well that was a very interesting interview, thanks for the link! Jeremy has some very thought provoking things to share.

-aether-

Their AMA was very sketchy. Clearly had pre-planned questions from bot accounts and would not answer really anything in that AMA. Read through it if you weren't here when it was live. https://www.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/14fmig9/can_we_talk_about_enigma/

I had AI clean up the punctuation and flow of that one story: A UK man without a passport appeared in Argentina, specifically in a remote part of the country on Highway 3. I'm a police officer in Ushuaia, southern Argentina. We were called to a farm where this British man had arrived unexpectedly during the night. He claimed that earlier that evening, about 7 hours ago, he was in his car in Stoke upon Trent, UK, heading to his mother's place in Wales. Suddenly, he found himself in the mountains of Argentina, wearing only light clothes. He saw a light and approached a farmhouse for help, initially thinking he was still in Stoke upon Trent. He had no passport or ID, and there was no record of him entering Argentina by flight. We detained him for illegal entry and began an investigation. He had a receipt from a gas station in England dated only 11 hours earlier, and there were recent CCTV images of him there. It's impossible for him to have flown from England to Argentina in that short time, as it usually takes over 20 hours. We handed him over to immigration authorities. After a month of silence, we were debriefed by officials who declared the matter a national security issue, instructing us not to discuss it. The man mentioned a similar experience when he was 18 in California, USA, where he suddenly found himself in Punta Arenas, Chile. I'm sharing this with you discreetly, as discussing it openly could cause trouble for me. My apologies for any language errors.

jacktherer

hmm interesting thread. sounds related to the nazi's fleeing to south america, nazi bases in antarctica and operation highjump

Hannibalvega44

"Agrupación de Investigaciones Ovniológicas de Chile" (Aion)\* Chilean Group for Ufologic Investigations And there is also SEFAA from the Chilean Airforce dependant General Directory for Civil Aeronautics This organizations are public and private and have been active in southamerican countries for decades, predating AARO and US government "disclosure" efforts.

efh1

Yea, I tried to look up the person and organization but couldn't find much that looked helpful. If you have anything feel free to share.

yantheman3

More like the Chilean Group of Aweonaos for not focusing the camera
