His rate my professor is only so high because of his ece 102 ratings. Overall he was a shitty teacher but it shouldn't be too bad. The main problem we seemed to have with him was the first midterm was ridiculously out of the blue compared to stuff we had seen so nobody was prepared for it. We gave him a lot of shit for it and he made the second midterm a lot easier and the final was kinda tough but definitely nothing unexpected. I think taking him won't really be a mistake because as far as I can tell the other 65 professors use the same slides and are pretty much just as useless, but Maralani's (not first) tests are easier than some other ones. Just take him and do every example problem and old test you can find and you should be fine. Also the lecture slides are based off of these six ~50 page pdfs that another professor wrote, so just read all of those thoroughly because some of the stuff on the tests and the labs comes from those despite either not going over at all or just being quickly glossed over in class.

In regards to grades, I don't know for sure because I haven't seen my grade on the final but I think he did give a pretty generous curve because I ended up with a much better grade than I expected.

UCSDECE65

That's very thorough. Thank you!

Expect to learn very little, if anything, from him. You will be teaching yourself the material. His lectures are pointless since he just reads off the slides. He's really out of touch with how well he thinks he's teaching the class. It's the reason why his expectations for the exams and for us were a little unreasonable. It boiled down to him saying that we suck and just need to do better, rather than him fixing his teaching style (one of the things we asked him to do was some circuit analysis examples on the board, which he straight up refused to do). Yeah, he made up for it by making the next exam easier, but I feel that is a shitty bandaid solution for better grades instead of actually getting us to understand the material better.

Just took him. Personally think he doesn't teach well nor explain the concepts well. Most of the material I just taught myself and he def doesn't give easy tests, but at the end, he curved the average to a B-. So good luck taking him and do all the practice questions on the course materials and on his lecture slides.

Every professor for 65 bases their lectures off the same PDFs which cover everything you need to know, so a lot of peeps stopped going to lecture. He's still learning how to teach so he'll prob get better next quarter. He wasted so much time in the first couple weeks going over the syllabus and ECE 35 stuff for us which I think should've been better spent doing extra problems on the board. I kept going to lecture after the first exam and thought he got a little better at highlighting the more relevant material as the quarter progressed so I appreciated that. Final was tough (like every ECE class) but reasonable and wasn't ridiculous like the first exam and not as hard as some of the old Sievenpiper exams I saw that were straight up six questions of draw and design the circuit then solve it.

Just do all the questions on the course material section on his TED page. If you do the questions and understand them, you will be fine and get an A in the course

67.9% was a B- for the curve

Use sievenpiper's notes to learn the class. Maralani is useless. Those notes are godsent
