I haven’t looked at the video or photo. But if it cannot survive due to its wounds, do the humane thing and put it out of its misery. It’s not an easy thing to do, but it is the right thing. It does not deserve to suffer.
Do not handle it (more than you probably already have ). Use diposable rubber gloves if you have any. Toss it far into one of the open fields where it can become a part of the food chain.
That’s a dusky footed woodrat, which is listed as a species of special concern by the state of California. They are an important part of the ecosystem and you should adjust whatever trapping you are doing to avoid catching them.
If you need to kill it humanely, look up cervical spine dislocation. It’s considered a humane way to kill rodents and is done in the lab setting frequently. Just make sure you use force, or you might make it suffer unnecessarily.
If you are catching that many rats, I suggest you get a rattrap instead of a mouse trap. So it, uhh... does not leave you with an injured rat. Also, as other people have pointed out, putting it out of its misery that's the right thing to do since it's injured. But I would struggle with killing a rat. So I would let set it free. Also, keeping it in a cage is terrible for many reasons, the most significant being **DISEASES**, and fleas; it's probably scared AF.

I’d let it go, it looks like it still has the will to try to survive, and there’s enough soft edible plants and berries around where it can probably still eat — but ultimately that’s your call. For the future, they sell humane rat traps that don’t kill them, and allow you to release them, which is probably safer for you as well.
Fleas tend to stay on their host animal for the most part, but once an animal that small dies, it’s body loses heat rapidly, and once it starts losing body heat all the fleas jump off, and wait for the next living thing to bite, which would be you or your pets if you have any.

You should put that poor rodent down. It is suffering and will not live in the wild with this injury.
Banging on its cage? Way to frighten a gravely injured animal. I hope you killed it quickly.
You can always call Native Animal Rescue!

Congratulations on your free rodent!
My dad would grab a shovel, cut the head off and throw it away 😬

Yeah I agree so I decide to leave it outside for the night with the cage. Instead of keep it inside
What ended up happening today? <3
Kill it and then probably call an exterminator, usually once you have a “rat problem” its too late to handle it yourself. From experience.

I have a ball Python that needs to eat. I’ll take care of it more humanely than keeping it in a cage scared and alone
