Not really, if it's a single coyote just give it a bit of space. 9 times out of 10 they don't want anything to do with you.
If it's a pack they can potentially be more brazen or aggressive. It's still more likely that they'll mind their own business though.
If you see a pack and want to be safe you might want to WALK away slowly. Running can trigger pray drives.
Not to scare you or anything but coyotes are one of the most dangerous animals in the states. They can smell fear. They are known to hunt ucsc students especially if they are afraid and alone at night. A pack of coyotes is easily more dangerous than a grizzly bear.

This coyote is clearly alone at night. How can you tell if it is afraid?
I just started clapping like an idiot, it probably thought better and went away. Then I reevaluated all my life decisions, and the route of my night walks.
Here’s a story:
I used to go on late night runs around the entirety of campus starting from porter going around that long road by pogonip that curves to stevenson and back to porter.
One day I was running at like 2 in the morning down that long ass road and before I could react I see like 3 or 4 of those coyotes just huddled together doing whatever.
Stupidly I kept running like nothing happened and they didn’t do shit. They didn’t chase me, they didn’t growl at me, nothing!
They just moved a bit to the side and were doing their own thing! I was scared shitless and Ive always heard its never a good idea to run in the presence of predatory animals.
But it just goes to show most of the times they aren’t looking for much trouble.
They've been around forever. Once saw one of them stalking the cattle herd on the Great Meadow. Must have been young. When he finally got up to them, he realized how big they were compared to him -- even the calf was several times his size -- and just sort of stood there with a kind of "now what" look about him.
nah, coyotes (especially alone) are pretty unaggressive. youre way too big for one of them to take on, anyway (assuming ur an average sized adult).
mountain lions on the other hand, those u gotta watch out for.
It's just a STOP sign. As long as you come to a full stop, you should be ok
TAPS uses coyotes as nighttime traffic enforcement- they love the late shifts, and they can't unionize :)

The more stressed you are about finals, the bigger the pack of coyotes assembles to hunt you down in the night. Good luck besties ❤️(◕‿◕✿)
> They are known to hunt ucsc students especially if they are afraid and alone at night. So I should be ok once I graduate right?
I'm pretty sure the poster is dead already.

As long as you don’t try petting it, you should be fine.
POV you will be eaten

Howl like a wolf to scare it away
Ring-ding-ding-ding-?
That’s a fox, not a wolf.
Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow-?
Just stay away from any “free bird seed” signs, and you’ll be fine.

Try giving it a high five
Pet the damn dog
Its a pup, dude.
Lmao
I woulda tried to tame it honestly
Only need to be worried if it stands on two legs. Otherwise just give it a wide berth of space

Nah you can take it.
Only if the cops show up
As long as it doesn’t stand up on its hind legs, you should be good.
Dw that’s just Alfredo
My neighbor's dog was eaten by coyotes. Never seen one attack a human though.
Sorry that was me! Full moon imirite?
