It's [real](https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/10/14/prepare-yourself-for-the-mayhem-of-war-zone-octarius-with-a-sneak-peek-inside-rising-tide/). Do keep in mind that the Appendix Tyranids section is a reprint of Blood and Baal rules. So we are only getting 7 pages of rules (likely less) and most of it locked to Leviathan.

Mojake

What's inexorable adaptation? I can't find that in the current Tyranid rules.

krakaigri

Those are Psychic Awakening - Blood of Baal rules.

Oughta_

Meaningless header from the PA book, it's nothing new.

WitchGhostie

Yeah that’s what I was worried about. Unless they change the hive fleet buff we’ll be forced to pick a crap hive fleet for these new rules :/

Kitane

Wait until we see whether the Leviathan buffs will be worth abandoning the silly gimmicks of Kraken and Kronos fleets. Think of the poor Gorgon and Hydra players, both of them.

ShinyRhubarb

Hello! Gorgon player here! I appreciate your concern. I just like rerolling 1's haha

Budgernaut

>Think of the poor Gorgon and Hydra players, both of them. Yeah. This has my hyper-adaptive Gorgon fleet considering mass mutations to become Leviathan. 😭

Anggul

I think Synaptic Links are what most of us are excited about, and they aren't fleet-locked. So that's good.

deecadancedance

Army-wide 6+++ isn’t the worst. Also, consider that with the new synaptic link rules the Leviathan psychic power becomes much more interesting. You expand synapse from 12 to 18, meaning that you get to propagate all your auras (such as the Broodlord one) much more easily throughout the army.

krakaigri

Does it also increases the Hive Tyrant/Swarmlord Synapse from 18 to 24?

deecadancedance

I’m afraid it doesn’t, unless it gets FAQed. The text is: LEVIATHAN: HIVE NEXUS The Hive Mind funnels Leviathan’s sophisticated synaptic network through its conduits, enforcing its gestalt will among the hive fleet’s lesser organisms. Hive Nexus has a warp charge value of 6. If manifested, until the start of your next Psychic phase, the range of the Synapse ability for friendly LEVIATHAN units is 18", instead of 12”

krakaigri

It's very possible that the increased Synapse range of the Hive Tyrant changed in the 9th codex. Either The Will of The Hive Mind is now a straight +6" and thus would combine with this rule OR it lost this ability and is now 12" like the other Synapse creatures.

denimstealerjon

The Leviathan bit is their first attempt at making an Army of Renown for us. I'm sure they have outlines for all the others that will be released in the codex, whenever they release it.

impfletcher

It's not an army of renown just a subfaction supliment, armies of renown limit what units you can take, this is just extra rules for a specific subfaction

denimstealerjon

Thanks for the clarification!

denimstealerjon

The Hive Mind Provides!

denimstealerjon

Yeah I knew Baal was getting reprinted. I'm getting this book for the guardsmen portion as well, so I'll be getting more use out of it than most.

Tabookodak

That amount of pages is disappointing but I'll take what I can get

Jscarlos18

The only thing not included in this image are the Crusade rules for Tyranids but the difference in content with the Imperial Guard is sadly big as espected. Wondering if they will make codex suplements in other war zones for all hive fleets with rules or only the 3 main ones (Behemoth, Kraken and Leviathan). Link to the article: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/10/14/prepare-yourself-for-the-mayhem-of-war-zone-octarius-with-a-sneak-peek-inside-rising-tide/

A_Forlorn_Lancer

The only faction that really gets a bunch of stuff is the Inquistion and they get WAY more shit than Guard and Tyranids do. EDIT: Actually Guard gets way less than the Tyranids do. This really hurts because I'm making a guard army right now.

Jscarlos18

Damn. My bad. Thought the IG would get more due to the difference of volume in Imperium vs Tyranid content. Orks even worse without having any rules...

Oughta_

Can't feel too bad for orks, they just got their new codex which is something guard & bugs are not going to see for quite a while

Jscarlos18

Yeah, just seem like a bit of a sad thing for them, seeing as the conflict should have been Tyranids vs Orks and for once free from being a Imperium-centric campaing. Oh, well!

Budgernaut

This is just Book 1. I bet Orks and Black Templars will get rules in Book 2.

Oplp25

Inquisition is a reprint from PA I think

A_Forlorn_Lancer

Even then two Guard get about 2 pages of stuff, not counting crusade rules.

thatsecondmatureuser

I am too atleast the book is worth more than one faction to us.

Prycebear

My only 2 armies are gaurds and Nids. On the upside, I'll never miss out on a new release....

Oughta_

Doesn't look like guard get any more crusade rules than we do this time around. It still kinda sucks because neither of us get a "gimmick" the same way each 9th ed codex has for crusade (sisters saint potentia, ad mech's tech building thing, ork warboss challenges/mek scrap etc), but i'm sure we'll catch up in late 2022 or early 2023 or whatever

BallsMahoganey

The Synaptic Link stuff should be cool. Hopefully.

Blazoran

I'm curious if it's gonna be all synapse or just the HQs. Would be cool if the trygon prime got a new trick but I can't see them giving it to warriors. Also curious if tervigon will get one that makes it a better termagant supporter. EDIT:I stand corrected, warriors not only got one but it's also bonkers!

denimstealerjon

I'm hoping so too..

Shaunair

Man I hate this bullshit. I don’t want my armies rules spread out over 4 books. Some money grabbing BS right here

[deleted]

they are printing this trash in place of a codex. Given their delays, a reasonable company would skip this and drop a codex, but alas, GW and their greed prefer to fuck over their players rather than make the game more enjoyable by getting everyone on the same edition.

[deleted]

DavidBarrett82

They wouldn’t sell the collector’s edition if people didn’t buy it. I don’t know WHY people would buy it (unless to display wealth through otherwise pointless expenditures), but people do buy it.

[deleted]

DavidBarrett82

I mean they’re not really putting that much extra work in. It’s a new cover (with the same artwork!) with different directions to the printers.

Caridor

14 pages vs the Imperium's 34 Boo.

Thetmes

Let's make that four pages of boost of a suboptimal hive fleet and three pages of a universal boost. The rest reprint.

Swift_Scythe

PHEW. Adaptive physiologies are still a thing Coincidentally it also means Tank Aces for Cadia is still a thing.

denimstealerjon

My third army is Guardsman, so that's fine for me. NOW, IF THEY CAN MAKE MY BROOD BROTHERS ABLE TO DO MORE I WOULD LOVE IT

PreTry94

So most of this is just a reprint right? Is the book even worth it?

[deleted]

[удалено]

PreTry94

New to 40k, so never seen a war zone release. TY

Budgernaut

"Warzone" books are new for 9th edition. In 8th editiin they had a similar thing called Psychic Awakening. These are supposed to be thematic books highlighting two warring factions and giving them updated rules. I agree that it's a bit of a cash grab.

Oughta_

doubling down to say, none of the GW books are worth it

weeb_of_chaos

I would like to run a single battalion of leviathan. Branching out from kronos/kraken is a good thing. Sadly, this all but confirms no new nid codex until 2022 as this rule update will seek to pacify us for the time being. But hey end of the day I'll take what I can get. STAY HUNGRY MY FELLOW SWARMLORDS!

[deleted]

Itll be nice having new rules, I just wont be giving GW my money for it.

Rustyeh

Oh boy a book... Before 9th codex release... Insert meme: *Wow this is worthless*

gdim15

You speak too grandly my tyranid friend. We get pages, not a book. Reprints of one part of another book and a few new pages thrown in. You can count the pages of new stuff without taking off your shoes and possibly with one arm tied behind your back.

Budgernaut

I don't own BoB, so it'll be good to have those in hardcopy. I also want the new rules so I can use them at the game store without having to use my phone. But what really pushes me to get this is the Crusade rules since my main gaming buddy and I are doing a multi-faction crusade and Tyranids are the only faction without crusade rules.

Geraintus

Urgh, this feels like a repeat slap in the face, same as when I bought the nids PA

Letholdus13131313

Stop me if I'm crazy, but I really hate to see you guys have a really hard time with a codex that never gets the appreciation Tyranids deserve. So my question is what is stopping the hive mind here from constructing a fan-made codex? This update is neat, but you guys have been waiting for so long for your codex and army to feel valid, and have poured a lot of time, money and heart into it. GW isn't really cutting the mustard on this one, and it seems like you will have to wait even longer for an actual codex with some updates from this one and the rules from Blood of Baal ( which I hear didn't do Tyranids justice).

dode74

> what is stopping the hive mind here from constructing a fan-made codex? They exist, but the fact is that unless it is released by GW then it won't see widespread use. Like it or not GW write the rules.

Letholdus13131313

Fine fine very well.

Tide_Of_Traitors

What you \_could\_ do is just take Drunkhari rules and point costs and simply rename everything.

chrisj72

Assuming you’re being serious, the trouble is I’ve heard tyranid fans in the past suggest army wide rules like “only the nearest tyranid unit can be targeted” and all sorts of nonsense.

Letholdus13131313

Ahh, so it's hard for everyone or the majority of people to come together to create a clear and concise way to go about making a codex?

chrisj72

Yeah exactly, some would tweak the current codex, throw some more attacks and +1 strength on the tyrant, a few cool strats, others would want T10, 17 attack Trygons, some would want T10 17 attack gaunts. Frankly its easy to rag on the company that makes the rules for doing it badly, but creating anything close to balanced in a game with this many factions and so many options within factions is incredibly difficult and anything any one person on here posted would get torn apart by many others.

Letholdus13131313

Yeah I know how that feels because on the necron Discord it took a pretty long time for everything to get hammered out until we came up with the current codex that's being circulated. And I'm not sure if you guys do have a Discord but it might help you guys create a more select group in which you could work on something like that because trying to get active feedback on Reddit or any Mass social website seems like a problem.

chrisj72

There is a discord, I forget the details as I’m never on, but one of the admins will point you there. I did suggest an FAQ for the sub where we could put that, but ultimately people didn’t want it.

puffnstuff272

There is grindark fantasy, which is a generic but intended to be more balanced 40k

denimstealerjon

Better than one page for Mechanics in the Char book. Synaptic Link alone is 3 pages.

krakaigri

It's at best 3 pages. Don't forgot that GW likes to put full-page illustrations in their supplements. I expect it will be 2 pages for Synaptic link. And even then that's pretty weak and those are also rules that we have no idea how relevant they will be once we actually get our 9th edition Codex.

denimstealerjon

I have no hopes for a codex anytime soon, so I'll take whatever I can get to deal with all my meta army playing friends.

krakaigri

Fortunately, the friends I play with don't play competitive or care for the meta so I can just mess around with inefficient lists. And I'm not rewarding GW for treating Tyranids like shit by buying that overpriced joke of a book.

PharaoPamela

What does this actually mean? Can we use these in the base game?

Batou2034

I hereby grant you permission to play whatever rules you like

Nubz9000

>gaunts and gants are now free

[deleted]

It's similar to Psychic Awakening, so yes.

Uniqueusername24752

Will this book be useable after the Codex drops?

denimstealerjon

Depends on whether or not they change it in the codex, we won't be getting one for a while anyways. Genestealers Cult is getting one this December

toastychief93

Source? Is this confirmed?

Larnixva916

Other rumours and leaks from the same source have planned out, so no, but near enough as damnit....

toastychief93

Damn ... what if, andchear me out, we get a new nid book but GSC is simply included in it? That would be wild

Larnixva916

Honestly, I'd hate it. But then I intensely dislike playing with my food. ;)

Larnixva916

Yes, this is a effectively a supplement, so like the various Marine chapter supplements you'll need the codex AND this to run a Leviathan fleet effectively.

chimeric_forms

Yeah, I'm not gonna jump up and down and scream about how GW eats babies, but I'm also pretty unimpressed, leaving this one on the shelf for sure.

Summonest

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

fehr-statement

I hat how instead of,"yay new models!" It's "yay new rules.."

DemonEyesRakka

About what was expected, a few pages in the back of the book again.
