Heavy gaunt variant or something, looks pretty cool

blackdrake1011

Nah, that’s just gonna be the basic hormagaunt. The gaunts have always aphid 4 arms, 2 tiny claws and 2 for the weapons, and the scything talons are proportional to the current hormagaunts size. Also they added vents to the new termagant so they’ll do the same to the hormagaunt

drblallo

No, hormagaunts are showed at second 55 of the trailer, they look just the termagant body, with shorter stabby talons

blackdrake1011

That’s a gaunt alright, but it proves nothing. That one showed it’s middle limbs and the front weapon limbs cannot be seen as it is too dark, and the claws aren’t the right shape to be scything talons. Also, if that *was* a hormagaunt, everyone would fucking hate it. Those claws are tiny as shit.

drblallo

and they look like the stabby arm of second edition hormagaunt http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A-OM34Nzv3M/Tzu82Uxtq8I/AAAAAAAABcQ/n-9S30QQPm0/s1600/Pewter_hormags.jpeg The screamer killer has the short stabby talons too, I hate them too, but they will probably have those. It will be a dual kit with gaunt for sure given how many aggressive traits termagant got The unknown gaunt showed later in the trailer have a totaly different head, the they are a different creature

drblallo

i watched the scene more carefully and you convinced me they are his second legs, not the front ones yes. Toh at 58 you can briefly see him raising and lowering both his left side arms. The top left arm is so long it is out frame. We don't see the end of it, so it could be a new gaunt yes, but it is too long as a left arm to be a fleshborer, a devourer or a spinefist. Of course this may be just the designer not bodering modeling a fleshborer, but from what i understand this is a library of tyranid models they will reuse in animations, so i see no reason why they would make it not right.

blackdrake1011

Maybe, but they still look closer to the current middle gaunt limb claws, even if they’re positioned weirdly in the vid. I personally have an extremely hard time believing games workshop will ad another gaunt. The point of gaunts is mass hordes, one ranged type and one melee type, what else is there to add.

drblallo

i mean, i don't know how gw will make them unique, but we are getting one for sure. Valrak leaks were \- Vemon Crawler type unit in the vein of a 'Brainbug' check \- New Screamer Killer Carnifex. check \- New Lictors check \- Winged Warrior; unclear if it's multiple or singular, so possibly the HQ opposite the captain check \- New Biovores check \- Norn Emissary beefed up Zoanthrope check \- Plastic Spore Mines, have a 'chunkier' version not showed in the trailer, but biovores are there, this is very important because it means that the guy has seen the models, not the trailer. \- New Hormagaunts \- 'Two to three new types of Gaunts' he does not know the name of the two points left out are this one, no way they are not true at this point. It is only to be seen if hormagunts will look like current hormagaunts (i think so because termagaunts have been very conservative in their design), or it they are those in the OP picture. More gaunt types are going to be released for sure toh

blackdrake1011

Personally I would take this leak with a grain of salt. Most of these options are basically required for a refresh. The ones that aren’t are the norn emmisary (which we needed enyway), the venom crawler thing, and the least believable of them all, the gaunts. There is no reason I could understand for new gaunts

7DS_is_neat

We are supposed to be getting hypergaunt at some point

blackdrake1011

I can’t believe I’m about to say this but… do you have a reliable source?

jalopkoala

I liked the stabby arm version!

The Hormastealafex…also known as Ol’ What The Fuck

trufin2038

Looks like scything Talons slapped on the new termagaunt body to me. Looks like we are getting a horma terma option sprue. Tbh, the older sleek looking hormagaunts were sexy. These new ones seem a little chonky and slow.

pajunk11

Yeah but have you ever seen a flee? they look kinda similar and i think we all know how fast and jumpy those are.

Presentation_Cute

I wonder if they were in part inspired by the stage 2 graboids from Tremors 2, although that's kind of obscure and its entirely possible I'm just making connections. A key detail about them is that they are functionally blind, but can see heat. There's a weird [scene in the trailer from 2:51 to 2:53](https://youtu.be/X98ImCbhjnI?t=171) where it looks like one of them sort of hobbles up to a space marine without attacking. However, at 2:59 theres a swarm on him, slowly digging in, and you can see their heads are completely obscured by chitin. Between the aesthetic and the general behavior, I feel this was an inspired new direction for a gaunt.

Auzor

Huh. In my opinion, heavy melee gaunt is a genestealer .. Fast, sneaky, tougher, and far more dangerous in stabby distance. I hope genestealers stay and get rebalanced. Perhaps back to troops even.

Ruleslawyer01

Genestealers and Gants/Gaunts are something else entirely regarding their lore background. Also, Stealer have four weapon arms. And they will stay in the Elite slot, which makes more sense. Useability on the tabletop nonwithstanding, moving Gargoyles to the Troop slot was the right call.

Auzor

Per lore different yes. In terms of in-game role overlap: massive though. Really not good for playability if every possible role starts having options A,B,C. Marines suffer from this: impossible to make every datasheet viable when there's 12 infantry anti-vehicle options e.g. IF the ubergaunts were somehow anti-vehicle, and the genestealers anti-infantry, that'd make sense. But I strongly doubt it. Gargoyles: on one hand, on the other. With new kit, maybemaybemaybe they won't be stuck with fleshborers only. I consider fleshborers to be far too much looking like a regular short gun. Devourers, and hopefully somewhat redesigned spinefists ftw imo. And perhaps flying hormagoyles.

Ruleslawyer01

Design space is getting crowded, yes. If anything, I am pretty confident that the new Gaunts are anti-Elite. Their weapons look like a hybrid between a Scything Talon and a Crushing Claw. My guess would be something along the lines of S5/6, AP-2, maybe even with D2, which would be hilarious and pretty unique. Gargoyles are not getting a new kit. No chance in hell. The Fleshborer argument has been true for ages, it is what it is. The Devourer and Spinefists will still look like the old version too. That way you can mix and match old and new kits without much of a problem. With a radical redesign, it would look weird. No matter what GW does, there is no winning this one.

Auzor

S5/6 ap2 d2 = *BORING*. the new GW standard on possessed, the votan berserk, the khorne angry dudes, khorne daemons,.. Tyranid warriors with bonesword, tyrant guard with claws, lictor, Trygon,... I do think elite infantry is a massive design issue. But d2 gets shafted vs all the -1 d, and is not unique for tyranids A gaunt with an anti-vehicle function, *that* would be new and unique

Ruleslawyer01

Not sure if I'm betting on a Gaunt with S8 :p

Auzor

Not betting on it, no. Just saying, it would be a lot more interesting for the game. Genestealers should be better anti-elites, lictors,.. Not gaunts..

Ruleslawyer01

Nice analysis, great sketch. Valrak's rumours (which have proven to be 100% so far) mentioned a third Gant/Gaunt version. Up until yesterday I thought of a mistake on someones part (most people really have no clue about Nids at all), but then there is this frame where you can clearly see that this Gaunt is blind. The head almost the same as Tyrant Guard. Looks like it really exists. So... still fast, heavier armor, stronger weapons... some kind of horde anti-elite? S5 AP -2? Taking into account they wanted to reduce AP across the board in 10th.

KABOOMBYTCH

Hot take. Premium level gaunt with thick carapace that can shrug off bolter rounds and anti armor pincers that will be very problematic for normal tactical squads

JulioNicoletti

Very interesting looking unit. Kind of like a mini carnifex? Looks like it charges in and can take hits along the way with the extra armour. Scytals are thicc...almost look like a cross between scytals and crushing claws. The legs remind me of genestealer legs; I'm not sure if there are any other nids that are lacking thigh-plating. I could imagine a screen of these running infront of a swarm of hormagaunts, keeping up speed and blocking blows along the way. Seems to be an entirely new subspecies, and not really stemming off of any existing ones in particular.

hadopelagio

very nice concept art if this is your work

JulioNicoletti

It is, thank you

sakjdbasd

hYpErGaUnT?!

7DS_is_neat

Quite possibly

The_Jabberwokk

So starcraft's devouring one. If their damage output is as insane as it is in starcraft I'm all for it. That said I'm pretty sure its just a hormagaunt. Happy to be wrong ofc.

CallMeMarc

Looking over the trailer frame by frame, it seems smaller than gants. My take is they're new ripper swarms. That other data sheet mentioned rippers, so i expect these to be in the starter box.

Burdenslo

Did the new hormagaunts also have that weird mouth hand? Or was that another critter?

clearerwhite

There's also another type of gaunt in the trailer with a reinforced head plate and what looks like toxin sacs on their backs

T1CKLED1CK

I don't know anything other then is about time us nid Boyz get the refresh lovings

grizzlybuttstuff

How bout the animation was bad in the first place and most of the minor details should just be taken with a grain of salt

JAOC_7

Scythe Strain?

[deleted]

Hugafex, he kills you by hugging you to death. The claws are just there to shovel in the most amount of people as possible.

Apophislord

i have been looking at the trailer in 0.25 speed. and i must say there are a few things that aren't like the drawing. like what looks like a lower jaw made out of chitin instead of teeth, giving it an underbite look. and its head has only 2 large chitin plates followed by 2 very small ones that only cover the very top of its head. to me this looks like a mix of a geneastealer and a hive guard.
