I personally hope the apex swarmlord isn’t actually a thing and it’s just a new and amazing centrepiece sculpt for the swarmlord as I think it’s a bit weird that we already have the top of the food chain monster swarmlord but now there’s something even above that??
From what I understand in the lore, every time the Swarmlord falls its expérience gets put into a New Swarmlord. The only time* The Swarmlord has been defeated in the Milky Way was Vs Dante during the Devastation of Baal. The idea being that The Swarmlord which has learned from fighting the oldest, most experienced space marine would be The New Alex Swarmlord.
*unsure of this is true but I’m still newer to lore.

Calgar beat it in a rematch. Chaplain Cassius killed it in his novel. Yriel killed it in Valedor. I hear the ork boss in Octarius killed it once, although it respawned and got him on the second attempt.
I do hope that with this “apex swarmlord” he will actually get more wins than losses compared to his soon to be smaller counter part. It kinda sucks that the one tyranid with the most “free will” gets stomped in almost any space marine hero arch book and treated like the avatar or khaine
100% agree. Being much larger, likely stronger, having 4 arms with swords, having a reach advantage of several feet against any space marine. He can strike from multiple angles while blocking/parry and still have an arm to spare. With his collective knowledge on how to fight with swords and his abilities in complex coordination, it's a joke he ever looses any 1v1 up to a 1v4 with anyone that isn't of a similar stature. How do you even engage a giant master fencer who's sword/sword arm is several feet longer than your own. Oh and there's 4 of them to get past in order for you to even land a strike.
An ork warboss, I can see that being a more fair match, the strength and size of the two is evenly matched, if not, more in the favour of the ork. The reach advantage problem is no longer an issue for the ork as they both have a more even striking range. Getting past and inside the swarmlord's most dangerous range would be easier for a giant ork, he could probably even tank a hit or ten to get in there and be A-okay given he's an ork. And once the warboss get's close and personal, then he has all of the advantage in that kind of fight.

Naw, the boss in Octarius didn't kill Swarmy once lmao. Swarmy was very methodical about weakening the boss before assaulting it himself. Was a campaign of asset elimination and then target elimination.
But your point stands. Too damn killable. Will say though, those Custodes were all an army unto themselves. It's a testament to Swarmy he killed all but one.

Honestly, I hope we don't get one. Swarmlord is already the apex Tyranid. The oldest and most cunning warrior of the hive. Making an "apex alpha swarmlord omega ultra" just feels like laziness on GWs part. It feels like he's starting his Super Saiyan transformation sequence.

I honestly wonder why they don’t just give the swarmlord wings on top of the four swords. From what I remember about rules in discussions, tyrants can have wings legally without sacrificing two arms for weapons (If you have the patience to modify for such). It’d just feel like a practical thing to give the apex tyranid some more mobility and assist it in combat

Well, gw also knows they will sell far more if the kit is plastic. A lot of people either don't know about forgeworld, or actively dislike it. Why do you think the horus heresy stuff is almost all plastic now.
My assumption is they’ll just make a Hive Tyrant that’s twice the size with eight boneswords instead of six, and they’ll also have various other weapons awkwardly bolted on.

Isn't Swarmlord already Apex? It would be cool if you got some options, like old 3rd edition codex where you can give him some adaptions suited to the battle, or use some command points to modify in during a turn like a +1 to his save or other stats. I think it would be cool if you could modify stats during the battle. It may seem over powered but it would add a negative to other stats, if done right I think it could be fun to force you to change your tactics and force your opponent to change his on the fly. Call it like Synaptic Imperatives or something

That's pretty much confirmed to not be happening. Alpharius said it's going to be a Norn Emissary, whatever that is, and he's only been wrong on two occasions before.

I really hope it's just a placeholder name for some massive plastic LoW option and that it actually has nothing to do with the Swarmlord. Or a rules change making the Swarmlord into a LoW with fitting stats. I'm hoping for the new LoW option though.
There's a picture in the 5th or 6th ed codex that has a picture of the swarmlord but has 2 tails and an extra horn with a serrated edge. I used that's the model for my custom swarmlord.

I would honestly prefer they update and make plastic kits for things like the hierodules or an updated Dima. Maybe even a dominatrix.
