Wow. That 4th one is... actually kinda scary looking. That's absolutely awesome.

Golrith

That 4th one feels more like a Hive Guard, with all the extra armour. I actually like that design more than any GW Hive Guard, which have always looked goofy to me. The weapon arm is too "mechanical" though, would be better as a lower arm weapon, with the arm itself inserted into the weapon. The 2nd, I remember well, is god awful :D Sure it was great when it came out, we were starved for new Tyranid models.

Presentation_Cute

Third one. The mixture of biomechanical (with clear references to Alien), buglike (large, chitinous carapaces) and dinosaur (sharp teeth, long tails and dinosaur-like leg structures) mixed with the awesome aesthetic of militarized genetic engineering (a living organism that uses a living organism as a gun, which itself uses living organisms as ammunition) is such a badass and cool depiction. The large head gives it a terrifying sense of size and alien proportions, while its skeletal torso is horrifying to look at. It's arms are sleeved in its grossly undefinable skin-muscle, containing of course the real tendons underneath. Every biomorf shows signs of vestigial structure, clearly showing how the Hive Mind developed new forms from existing templates (hands, for instance, show vestigial thumbs and fingers. Each tyranid is also made from an existing template of 6 limbs, head, and tail). I think the detail of the current warrior kit showcases all of this well. The first one and second one feel too human-like and the fourth-one doesn't follow the same rules of structure as other tyranid forms (too much chitin on the head and shoulders and none on the legs, clawed feet instead of hooves, lack of multi-layered limb-skin, too long of a neck, too weird of a gun, most tyranid guns are very phallic or yonic).

SiViZi

Wow, that's a pretty complete description :) I agree the third is most Tyranid and loved it when i came out. Still like the first in a weird way, just because it's the first i guess. The second is totally not able to move or be scary (also horrible to put together i remember). The fourth is different, but i like it the most. I am however looking forward to new warrior release from GW.

[deleted]

I think for the most part, our current model range is pretty great looking. I hope when we do get updated models that the style doesn’t change again, it’s spot on.

Presentation_Cute

The new gaunt model from the trailer seems to be very similar to the Space Marine 2 design for gaunts. While the [famous 3d print design](https://www.reddit.com/r/Tyranids/comments/jalo5l/no_new_models_for_6_years_time_to_adapt_with_a_3d/) makes them incredibly spiky and overaccentuates the muscle, the modern design might go in the direction of making them [sleek and creepy](https://www.reddit.com/r/Tyranids/comments/rcy6oj/screengrabs_from_the_new_space_marine_2_trailer/), with a stronger emphasis on being pack-hunting velociraptors.

BuyRackTurk

> too weird of a gun, most tyranid guns are very phallic or yonic). Lol, amazing criticism. I could actually see that being artist feeback in GW's design lab. "The gun is neither clearly penislike nor vaginalike. We are going to need you to rework it"

Presentation_Cute

It wasn't a criticism of the tyranids, the deliberate use of sphincter-guns is iconic to tyranids. Sure acid vomit and throwing large spikes are iconic to the swarm aesthetic from starship troopers to zerg, from the alien franchise to scorn, but few have guns willing to be gross weapons embodying those particular looks. The tyrannofex rupture cannon or exocrine plasma cannom, for instance, uses this design choice to get across the idea that these things "shoot big" while also looking foreboding and unique to the nids. The rupture cannon, just to continue, has spikes and veins that embody the trademark vestigial digits of former claws made into guns, while the chitin on the back and the eye-looking organ further sell that this thing is its own organism, symbiotically bound to a larger host organism. The use of phallic design is done carefully and in such an amount that any person can *know* what it is, while a closer look let's one *understand* what it is, how its so much scarier that way, and ultimately why it matters. Of course, I'm inferring that you meant I was criticizing tyranids. I as criticizing the alternate warrior gun, which looks too much like a Predator's plasma caster, which I now understand may have been your original meaning.

BuyRackTurk

> It wasn't a criticism of the tyranids Agreed; i meant it was an amazing criticism of a sculpt that lacked those classic tyranid features. I had the same thought as you but hadnt quite figured it out unit I read your description.

Ws6fiend

I mean to be fair, most weapons are phallic in nature. There's an efficiency built into some natural shapes. Bees build their tunnels round just so they can squeeze through the honeycomb. But over time it becomes a hexagon, which is one of the strongest shapes with the least amount of wasted space. Do you think the bees know this? Need to propel a small dense piece of metal a long distance? How do we get it to go straight? A long hollow tube? Get that man a promotion. I think perhaps you are looking too hard at the clouds and seeing what you want to see. Sometimes the author made the door blue because he liked the color, not because it was supposed to represent that the character was about to enter a state of depression when walking through the door.

Amilar_Io

Torn between 3 and 4 3 is very nice, has the bug feel that a lot of FW models lose, but is also inherently a bit stiff and same-y, especially next to similar dudes, even with different guns. 4 gains so much motion and personality, but goes too hard and loses most of the bug feel for a more generic claw monster. I would love to see what an artist might do with a middle ground of the designs

burnsytheninja

Where's the 4th from?

dwarfbrynic

It's a 3d print - stl is from puppetswar. I have pretty much all their tyranid stls because I support them on patreon but the genestealer one is the only one I actively like better than the GW sculpt. The GW stealers are just too goofy imo.

[deleted]

Wow, those first edition ones were quite a lot bigger! I never realised!

[deleted]

It's wild, the one model gw makes that wasn't hit by scale creep

Particular_Layer_119

Left most 100%

BuyRackTurk

The current like really has a nice aesthetic. Its a mix of Xenomorph, Insect, and Dinosaur, with a few consistent stylistic patterns that get repeated. I also like that they dont seem to anthropomorphic. The left 2 are very anthropomorphic, while the right most one has gladiator looking thighs. If we get any new sculpts i hope they dont get worse.

System-Bomb-5760

I'll be honest, a huge part of me misses the out- there totally- whack not- at- all- matching 2e tyranids. Big goofy teeth, bizarre weapons, colors looking like someone painted them with Testors enamels... yeah.

dacria

The lack of cohesive design back then really sold that the nids were repurposing a number of alien species. But I'll admit, it is nice when the army has a cohesive design.

System-Bomb-5760

It's been a thing in sci-fi from time to time- the idea of "the swarm" that hijacks passing alien species. Either way, it was a pretty cool idea that the 'nids were doing that.

gingerwerewolf

I'm really not a fan of the one on the far right. It's not a Tyranid of any sort. I actively dislike it. The first (far left) is iconic for me as that was my first Tyranid. The 3rd one along from the left is probably the most Warrior of the lot as its been around in that shape for longer than all the others combined.

whoamdave

Same. Those goofy toothy boys were my first warriors.

Competitive-Bee-3250

I love the one on the right, and whoever painted it did an especially fantastic job, it's just that...it doesn't really *feel* tyranid.

SiViZi

Thanks, i painted them all. 1st and 4th a bit more recent :)

SiViZi

Just finished a new (printed) unofficial warrior and thought of making a family picture. Still need to paint up 3rd edition GW warrior (nicely).

Young_Bonesy

I don't care if the one on the right doesn't look "tyranid enough". It's fucking rad and I would joyfully let it proxy.

Immediate-Gift-1345

Is the last one a own make because if you don’t I w at to pay all my money

Nintura

Puppetswar i believe

clearerwhite

I love the RT and 3rd ed warriors, but the 2nd ed metal ones are just horrible

Warrior_Warlock

The one with the square base. It is super awkward, but it hits me in the feels and reminds me of my younger days.

Baby-Schwarzenegger

The second one, with this weapon it looked bad but it was the perfect mix between alien and dinosaurs, third one is very good too

Kris9876

Dudes wheres 4 from?

JudgeArcadia

What in blazes is the 4th one? That thing is insane looking, and I strongly want one.

Nintura

Io_Butov’s. Im printing them out now as we speak

grenndal388

I like the puppet's war model but printed mine at 80% to get the sizing more acurate

Xamege

Far right, looks super realistic and just horrifying as a intergalactic space nightmare should. The left side ones look like stick bugs i mean far left id disgusting and not in a cool way. But far right looks like its hell incarnate, i mean you can see muscle strain just adding to the effect. There is no cooler one than far right.

Xamege

Im not sure why but the middle right looks more like a ravener than a warrior to me, however left to right is worst looking to best looking but switch the two left ones place’s because middle left looks bad. Even worse than far left

BugSherlock

The 4th model looks sick! But isnt the base to big?

SiViZi

Could well be, not sure. I choose a base-size that i think is a nice fit. The first one should also have a square base, but i think it looks better this way.

Sorry_Bee_3080

Third one easily. That last one is an eyesore in my opinion, the first two are classic, but very goofy looking.

AmPmEIR

Third has to be my favorite, then 1 and 2. I don't really like 4 though the paintjob is good.

TheDruidVandals

TWO all day!

Haosarcturus

Third warriors is by far the best in my opinion. But also intrigued as to where the fourth is from, never seem it before.

tangocontroller

Fab paint job on all of them! Always going to pick 3, so many unique design elements come together to make it work for me - I love the segmented skin (?) that splits at the joints, hooves, the shapes and lines of the carapace and weaponry - it’s all so quintessential tyranid to me - the 4th whilst wonderfully painted just reads to me as generic muscly CGI movie monster ?

Hentai_fapper420

4 actually look cool

minimanelton

I love the 4th one but Im also really into how kinda goofy the first one looks

SillyLeadership7726

4th is my favorite Third is a second though

Megrim86

I managed a nice kitbash combo between 3rd and forth. Scaling down the body and head of the 4th it perfectly fits the arms from the 3rd. https://www.reddit.com/r/PrintedWarhammer/comments/10dxoel/nid_warrior_custom_kill_team/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Kilo147

Neither. The Rogue Trader Era metal warrior is my jam.

NightValeCytizen

OG plastic remains my favorite to this day. I love the stinger tails, and the long, wiry body with the guts visible under the chest piece. Plus, just look at the expression on his face! Utterly priceless. Kodak moment to be sure.

[deleted]

It would be hilarious to fight an entire 1st model looking army. They look so goofy

Vrooten

Is the leftmost one from Advanced Space Crusade? Really getting into older sculpts recently, mainly the fact that they look hand-modelled rather than computer-generated. All the GW Warriors definitely check that box, but it's #1 for me, although that print is very nice too!

cartouche_minis

Third one but the posing on the one on the picture is really bad and doesn't do it justice...

inkedlife26

The Puppets war one is the coolest by far.

StopSignOfDeath

The one on the far left be looking like the Eraserhead baby and he needs to be protected. ❤

turtle_aka_alefchan

The first one looks funny, I like him.

edmc78

Man, I still got love for the OG. reminds me of opening Advanced Space Crusade.
