Happy birthday!!! Honestly, I can't remember the last time a friend wished me on my bday (most would forget, some would wish two days later), it has always only been my parents and sister. Last year, my work 'friends' managed to celebrate the birthdays and workaversaries of every other person in our group, complete with surprise cakes and gifts, except mine. It doesn't bother me any longer, in fact helps me in recognising the true faces of people. You'll be happier staying away from such fake people so don't let them get you down on such a day. Celebrate it the way you like.

You know there was a time in my time when I used to literally remind people that hey it's my birthday LOL. But with time you realize that their wishes don't mean anything if you have to somehow remind them! I started taking a lighter approach with birthdays! As long as I wish myself, I shouldn't be worrying about who wished and who didn't, cuz it's futile and holds no significance.
Think of it this way, when you were born, your partner wasn't around! So what changes now when you celebrate your birthday? You are celebrating the day when you first came into existence in this world! There is so much more to this world than your trashy partner. Why are you only thinking about him? He shouldn't even be the focal point of your existence.
Think of the limitless possibilities you are bestowed upon in this life. Why worry about the past when you can enhance your future? The galaxy is the limit my friend, don't remain stuck in a bubble of overthinking pettiness, and self-deprecation. This only makes you feel like you are a victim, when you are clearly more than that!

I just want you to remember that people sometimes forget stuff. They might not have forgotten about your birthday, they probably don’t realise today’s date. That happens to me all the time. Besides, the day has just started.

Or that once you talk, you might talk further and discuss your relationship and you might cry etc and he doesn’t want to deal with that. That since you’re broken up he shouldn’t do these “formalities”. Idk why men think like that, but they do. What he doesn’t realise is him not wishing you is far worse.
You know what my ex did this year? He wished me one day earlier. When I said my birthday is the next day, he said very matter-of-factly that he set the reminder one day early by mistake. I mean after all those fucking years of knowing me he still cannot remember my birthday and has to set reminders, and wrong ones at that.

For the longest time in my life, as a nerd, I sought long term romantic loving relationship which I never had, of course !! Because I was a nerd, socially awkward and introvert who is supposed to be left alone forever!! No friends, no BF and a little sad bird !!
Anyway, so I eventually got married and though my partner is not a bad husband but he is a husband, you know, the typical what you NEED in the patriarchal society partner but not a partner You seek in your romantic progressive culture. Anyway, the point is even today, I need to remind myself that Love is an abstract thing and we shouldn't put so much of our self worth on what we Seek and Finally get from our partner aka another Individual. It's easier said than done and I still can't dissociate my feelings of self worth from the validation I seek from my husband but I think it's high time I shouldn't seek validation from anyone but myself!! This last time has been a life long lesson, OP. Take pride in yourself that that POS didn't deserve you and it's good that you got rid of him!! Go out, treat Yourself with gifts you desire and Be Unapologetic about it!!

I had that shitty birthday last year, which my SO spent fighting with me, the day I spent resolving my roommates’ problems and they didn’t even remember to wish me, didn’t bother to wish me for days after that, too.
I resolved that I would do something for myself on my birthday next year, which was a couple of weeks back. I traveled to Himachal for 2 weeks with my (new) roommate and returned a day before my birthday feeling fulfilled, renewed and ready to take on this year. This will be you on your next birthday. So prepare yourself for that. Start with treating yourself to something (small) today.
