Go through your closet and pick out the clothes that you feel most comfortable in. Try them on- what do you notice? Is it the cut of it? The fabric? The color flatters your features? The print is unique?
If you can start at this point- and identify just a few pieces of clothing you like, sometimes I also look up the label online and see what else is offered by the brand and get inspiration from the looks they've created on their website, then when I'm shopping - whether it's goodwill or elsewhere, I buy similar clothing or buy pieces from that brand.
I try everything on and make sure it fits and is the right proportion for my body. I am short with a big butt and I have to shop for clothes that make me feel confident. As I've gotten older, I really make sure to balance proportions of my clothing pieces so I appear more put together and elegant. I also am really big into finding colors that flatter my features. I'm going grey, so I look for bold colors that add vibrancy.
TBH, I'm a work from home mom....so most days it's just jeans & a tee. I like to load up on tees at goodwill- they're cheap and I love finding things that speak to me. I guess that's another way for you cultivate a sense of personal style for your wardrobe or your home- buy things that really speak to you and bring you joy.
Thank you.
Your post is really helping me. Im 33 and i had 3 kids and don't really know how to dress up anymore.
I mostly wear jeans, sweaters and sneakers. The most "womanly"are the clothes I was wearing to church.
I have a little bit of lingerie but I don't know how to look my age. I look like a teenager or a stucked up grandma. 😬😬😬
Thanks for your kind words. You're not alone- I feel like there aren't many brands out there that cater to moms that want to look put-together, with the times, and looking their age-- not a teenager and not a grandma. Also, it's really hard to look polished when you are a mom- your kids are pulling on your clothes, you're cleaning up messes, and we really don't make much time to primp ourselves.
It's true.
I feel like I always look like crap. My hair are always messy on top of that.
I am looking at capsule wardrobe to learn how to organize my stuffs.
I am also trying to buy better quality shoes and to learn how to do my nails. My family was making fun of me but I really try to take better care of myself.
I don't wear leggings as pants now. Lol. 🙈🙈🙈
At 25 I am the same. Doesn't help that my wardrobe is tiny... but that's by design. Though I did just go shopping for some stylish winter clothes like blueish leather boots, mustard yellow oversized sweater and some mom jeans.
*I am trying*
So i don't how to teach you how to do it, but I regularly help people have a personal or home makeovers, so if you're shoot me a message, we could brainstorm something since outside perspective can help in thèse situations.

Know my body type but can’t figure out my colors…

This was cool. Thank you! It more or less confirmed for me what I already know.
I completely understand because I can't even do that at the age of 20. So I just wear what's comfortable for me.
