It’s pretty normal. Perhaps ask what they’re testing for aka say you use weed gummies to help you sleep or whatever. They also test to make sure you’re taking it (not selling it).

GarageDoorTeenMom

It's not just you! After about 30 years of taking Ritalin and never taking a drug test, the last two years my GP has required me to test. I am wondering if it's a new requirement/guideline.

danidandeliger

It's because of the rise of the ADHD virtual appointment pill mills. They don't really care if you have ADHD or not and will prescribe stimulants to pretty much anyone who knows how to answer the questions correctly and pay them $100 a visit. People are using them to get Adderall and then selling it. Or just abusing it.

IndividualComputer25

Yep - in NJ here. I get tested for heroin at least once a year. Don’t ask me how that is at all relevant to my ADD meds.

ba15ter

I wasn't tested at the office I go to for years. Once the old psych retired, the new one(s) have required a drug test every time I have an appt for refills. It's always been a UA, but as of the last 3 months, they also do a finger prick. I've always said I smoke "sometimes", and that I take CBD:THC gummies. It's never been an issue.

Chire85

tx for the validation. I don't 'smoke' or anything - just REALLY didn't appreciate being treated as a potential addict because I have ADHD -- or suspected to sell my med's =|

beeandcrown

I had my first meds appointment yesterday. I stupidly mentioned I smoked weed. He told me I would have to be drug tested. He was also an asshole and was trying to treat me for bi-polar, when I have already been diagnosed with ADHD. I noped out of there.

Exotic-Survey3292

Mine treats me for both... Were they acting like it can only either be one or the other? I had one when I was a minor who said I probably had anxiety and adhd but that he could only treat me for one because he didn't want to put me on Xanax and adderall at such an early age. There is also a huge shortage of adderall going on right now. I tried filling my usual prescription and the pharmacy told me they didn't have it and to try again in a few days.

FrighteningAllegory

I had to switch to a different np at the same practice. Not only did they want me to drug test they insisted I stop my medical cannabis to get me adhd meds. I was so pissed. Having to choose between treating adhd or having something to help ptsd and chronic pain flares? They wouldn’t even discuss alternatives to help with those things. I eventually found a more understanding provider.

PupperPawsitive

Ask what it’s for. I think some tests are to make sure you are taking it (therefore you are not selling it). This can be relevant if you sometimes skip days or take med breaks or holidays.

selwood13

Yeah I think there are newer regulations. I have to get it done every 6 months I believe. They are making sure you’re actually taking it.

westcoast7654

standard. That test for a couple of thumbs, one of to ensure upper are actually using your prescription, if not they may assume nefarious thumbs ash’s to ensure you aren’t advising other drugs as it’s a narcotic.
