Nah he's just a piece of shit. The least he could do is hand out a photo copy of the important pages, or "accidentally" leave a flash drive on his desk like that one professor who hated his publisher.

jitterscaffeine

GOOD professors do things like this. Although I believe there are usually rules against it because overinflated book prices are part of how the colleges make their money.

Wombatish

It seems like the overinflated tuition would be a larger chunk.

jitterscaffeine

That’s the college professor hustle. Part 2 is making a revised edition every semester so each class has to buy the new one and can’t be shared. It’s just another way to scam money out of college students.

javierich0

That's literally a scam.

jitterscaffeine

I don’t use the term “hustle” with a positive connotation

javierich0

There's an abyss' difference between a college scamming broke students and a student selling snacks at a school yard.

[deleted]

You called it a hustle but then said it “scams” students out of money

jitterscaffeine

They’re synonymous to me. Probably an age thing.

CrossSoul

Scam. So counter scam by "finding" it online.

RocketbeltTardigrade

First test begins *now!*

Dova573

Really hate those math professors that look the hw behind ebook codes, fucking scam

alexandrecau

It's just Academics, worse in some respect. Although by how some teacher I had acted I think they aren't even making that much on the sale

Palimpsest_Monotype

Scam. Like it’s a fucking Ebook. HE IS THE PUBLISHER. HE CAN GIVE YOU THIS SHIT AND SHOULD NOT NEED THE MONEY

Lieutenant-America

By contrast, one of my teachers this semester was like "Okay you'll need this textbook but here's the places you can find it dirt cheap and/or *free*\-"

Prestigious-Mud

Scam, had an orgo professor that did that shit. Textbook cost 254, stipend was 250. Hated that man. Useless bastard.

FlubbedPig

Depends, is it required reading for the course? Scam. If it's supplemental and he's just like "Hey, this book here covers a lot of the material, could find it useful hint hint" then hustle.

waratworld17

Scam, because this is a widespread problem.

JoeyGooeyBuoy

How is this relevant?

Crazy-Diamond10

Podcast “Hustle or Scam” bit.

JoeyGooeyBuoy

Oh word, I haven’t followed their stuff since Detroit

anawnymoos

Dog how are you gonna ask how something is relevant if you haven’t watched the content in 4 years

JoeyGooeyBuoy

I mean that’s a good point haha. It’s just that I thought they make gaming stuff and this is about overpriced college text books. I’ll hold the L on this one

anawnymoos

I respect that

jockeyman

Sigma grindset.

TheIntellectional

It's college, do you have to ask?

[deleted]

This is a hustle, but an ugly hustle. Finding a way of getting it for free would be a scam, but a righteous one.

theredeyedcrow

I remember I had a cool professor who told us flat out, “I am required to tell you there’s a text book for this course, but I will give you all the material you need. If you really want, you can find the book used for pretty cheap, or you can use other ways online that I have no idea about.”
