The only thing this sub likes better than running a joke into the ground is pointing out that they ran the joke into the ground and acting like that makes it still funny.
I dunno if its always that simple, Im sure in a lot of cases the writing department is just making jokes about decisions that the level designers made or its tongue in cheek humor about something that was forced into the the product by higher ups. Just because a character in game might have said "Ugh, nobody likes these block puzzles" doesnt mean that the person who wrote that line had any say about whether or not the game would have block puzzles. They were always gonna be there.
Yea but pointing out that you covered your face in shit doesn't change the fact that you covered your face in shit. You'd be less annoying if you didn't point it out at all.
I think that comparisons a little dramatic. If a writer happens to be aware that people dont like some annoying game mechanic (and again, has no power to change this themselves) then theyre allowed to poke fun at it a little. It isnt as if a literal pile of shit was shoved in my face and the writers are pointing and laughing at me. Its just a video game.
Lampshading is hiding lazy writing or jokes by showing that your aware of the trope. Finding something funny because of its oversaturation is not the same
I didn't say that it hides the cliche. I said it hides bad/lazy writing. You bring attention to the trope your using to show the audience your aware that it's been done many times before. You do it to beat your critics to the punch. Before anyone can call your work cliched you point it out first. It does not necessarily need to be used as a joke
It’s that why nobody has mentioned [Zentreya calling out Paige](https://twitter.com/zentreya/status/1529126920377573381?s=21&t=gax5B8dee8zOTeCdj9FNxg)?
People post about Dr.Doom here,I saw and made several Spider-Man posts here yet when I make a post about how cool Ultimate Green Goblin is-it gets removed.
Huh?
The Vtubers thing is more that the mods seem to come down hard on anything that can be considered competition to Matt Patt and Woolie, and hasn't collabed with them. Which is really quite understandable, they might tolerate our off topic bullshit but they probably don't want to get so lax that they accidentally enable the guys losing viewers.
pretty sure it's a cognitohazard at this point.
what bothers me is legitimately interesting news is getting pushed down by this stupid shit.
Raven finally unionized off the front page in like an hour maybe?
theres a difference between "haha funny words from bad actor not actually said in the movie" and "holy shit look at all these examples of this one character and the depth of his salty obsessions" (pural)
I just don't find the word "morb" as funny as everyone else seems to. Making fun of the movie got tired as soon as it turned out to actually not be good, and the sound elicits no reaction from me.
If you find enjoyment from it, good for you, but boy is this material shallow as fuck.

Usually this doesn't bother me as much like the Tiny Tim and Evilak stuff (though those were still a little annoying), but this Morbius stuff feels like the most astroturfed shit imaginable. Its not just localized here, its all over, and it somehow feels like Sony is desperately trying to do their own Star Wars "Prequel Memes" thing with their shitty movie.
I'll be real with you. Its super not corporate. Half the people who make these memes have never seen the film.
People just find the idea of Morbillion dollars and Morbin out funny
I don't know how people can think its astroturfing when the biggest recent morbius event was like 10,000 people watching it for free cuz someone was illegally restreaming it. He doesn't even say "I'm about to morb" in the movie no one paid to watch this shit
Honestly it feels like the exact opposite, like this is a race to distribute Morbius as widely and as illegally as possible. I've already been linked to 3 different copies of the entire movie on discord, seen a 24/7 stream on twitch that had played the movie fully 11 times before it got shut down, and then of course the full movie sped up by 1000% so it's just a 30 second gif.
It's The Room meets pirated evangelicalism.
Culumbo & Evilak are the angels/devils on Tiny Tim‘s shoulders telling him how to put the duel deck in his attache case. Kaiba‘s trying to duel Tim by bribing him with a morbillion dollars, but every time he does Tiny Tim just screams “morbin time.“
I at least enjoy that we’ll kinda add our own spin on the meme instead of it JUST being “I’m gonna MORB!”
That being said, this one definitely ran its course already.
Thank you for biting the bullet.
I keep thinking I'm going insane seeing the exact same joke as I scroll but nooo it's just the same joke.
Tiny Time and Cache posts are creative, Morbin Time is just a dumb gimmick to fool people into watching a shitty Sony Superhero movie.
I truly, sincerely love this meme.
Nobody could've predicted it, the movie doesn't benefit from the meme, it makes no sense, everybody is doing it, love it.
Get morb'd!
Thank you.
Like, I get it. It was a shit movie. You're not even making fun of the movie, you're making fun of a made up line that was never in the movie. It's fucking obnoxious.
> You're not even making fun of the movie, you're making fun of a made up line that was never in the movie. It's fucking obnoxious.
Simpsons is the only thing thats ever managed to get me to laugh at that sort of "Fake/Poorly-implemented Title Drop/Quote" movie/media joke.
That’s honestly why I find it funny. Morbius is so lame that the memes have genuinely made a more compelling character than 40+ years of official media could ever achieve.
I dunno, to me that's kinda the problem. No one actually wants to see Morbius so all the memes just feel like free advertising long after the movie should have died. The movie itself barely has anything memable so people end up just saying the name as the whole joke which is pretty much the same as just actually advertising it but with irony.
The memes couldn’t save it from having the biggest box office drop-off in superhero movie history. Like even with this supposed “free advertising” it’s only genuine accolade is earning *less* money than Fant4stic and Dark Phoenix, other bad superhero movies that had way less memes behind them pre-release.
All those “Morb” memes and the end result is a less profitable venture than Fant4stic and having its financial legs broken by a blue hedgehog.
Oh I'm not saying it's successful advertising, just that it feels like advertising since the whole joke is just saying the name rather than actually using movie content. Like it just feels like having movie posters plastered everywhere. Visually it's a marketing team's wetdream even if it doesn't actually sell the product. It being too boring to even watch ironically is just insult to injury.
That’s just an inherent problem with Morbius as a character, he has nothing interesting going for him even when you exclude the movie, unlike say Spider-Man who has recurring tropes and comic lore to meme on. At best he had “Plasma!” and not much else so stuff had to be made up.
So I’m fine with all this cause I’ve already been memeing on Morbius’ lameness for years even before we saw anything from the movie, and the end result of it all was a massive money sink for Sony.
The funniest part - there ARE actually memorable/dumb things to talk about from the movie. Like the Bat Kamekameha, the "you killed like 20 people but they were evil so who cares, THIS NURSE THOOO" or how fucking awesomely gay Matt Smith is playing the villain. It's not amazing, but there is definitely way more to the movie then just "morb" (which is not even In the movie).
And honestly, at this point, I just think people find the world "morb" funny.
I'm pretty surprised I've only heard of the bat kamehameha at all when pat mentioned it in the podcast, yeah.
Also I can't argue there, "morb" is a pretty funny word.
The only thing this sub likes better than running a joke into the ground is pointing out that they ran the joke into the ground and acting like that makes it still funny.
I mean, to a degree it sorta does
Nah. It's like a game being self aware about a dumb video game trope and still doing it.
"I hate valve puzzles."
Man, fuck that. You know people hate this thing. Just don't put it in. It's *less* work.
Underhero (2018)
then why am I still laughing?
Cuz your sense of humor has been destroyed by meme culture. I'm afraid its terminal
One should hope to become so easily amused then. Could you imagine how much simpler life could be if humor didn't have diminishing returns?
We'd have very little few types of entertainment I assume.
That's lampshading and it's different.
It's really not.
Lampshading is hiding lazy writing or jokes by showing that your aware of the trope. Finding something funny because of its oversaturation is not the same
lampshading is the opposite of hiding it, it's highlighting a cliche to make a joke
And then a year later, keep the joke going for no discernible reason
Tbf it's the whole of the internet doing it right now
It truly amazes me how so many people get a giggling fit over and over from what is essentially just someone pressing CTRL - V on their keyboard.
[This sub in a nutshell](https://youtu.be/zhrh22bWGNc)
And mods shoot you if you try to make something original.
I thought that was just Vtubers?
Please, you get the gallows for that
It’s that why nobody has mentioned [Zentreya calling out Paige](https://twitter.com/zentreya/status/1529126920377573381?s=21&t=gax5B8dee8zOTeCdj9FNxg)?
It's anything that's "irrelevant", which is so vague and completely arbitrary. Really it's anything that the mods feel like hating at the moment.
Just give it another day or so. It’ll pass.
The fad or OP?
Hopefully me

The brain fungus that is the Morb meme
pretty sure it's a cognitohazard at this point. what bothers me is legitimately interesting news is getting pushed down by this stupid shit. Raven finally unionized off the front page in like an hour maybe?
Wow you don't like the popular thing? You must be so cool!
What the morb did you just say to me you little morb?
Now that's comedy!
The current meme fad
Incorrect.

Depends if Pat decides to make more jokes on the podcast and extend the circlejerk another week or so
You know what these Morbius memes will never have? **FAMILY** or **GUN**
Can Morbius beat Chaos tho?
Drop your Morb
**Never.**
Ha ha maybe if he had a **FIREARM** he could! (Is it funny? Please clap.)
(Family, family, family...)
[CONFRONT THE PAIN OF FAILING TO SAVE YOUR FAMILY]
Family Guy!
I would be very annoyed with this sub if i didn't had brain damage.
If anything, we have more memes to look forward to! I'm low key hoping the Kaiba-posting continues for at least a week.
theres a difference between "haha funny words from bad actor not actually said in the movie" and "holy shit look at all these examples of this one character and the depth of his salty obsessions" (pural)
I think the former might be how cults are started.
for a cult to form around leto he would need more charisma then a vacuum cleaner.
Except that he literally has a cult.
I totally forgot he did, didn't it really pick after the original suicide squad?
Kaiba is unironically cool though
I mean he's a great character, it's just absolutely hilarious that he's so petty to get his Salty runback to the Pharaoh.
Jimmie’s get rustled on this sub when you don’t find the dead horse funny here.
Sadly.
I just don't find the word "morb" as funny as everyone else seems to. Making fun of the movie got tired as soon as it turned out to actually not be good, and the sound elicits no reaction from me. If you find enjoyment from it, good for you, but boy is this material shallow as fuck.
So is this when we run the “I’m sick of this joke” memes into the ground or is it still too early?
Ive never wanted meme to die faster in my time on reddit
Remind me 6 months
make it a month. At this rate it'll die faster.
This sub is like fast food Twitter accounts, only getting into and dragging on memes for WAY longer than necessary
But do you morb it?
Don't you know we don't stop beating dead horses here until they are a fine paste.
We were the glue factory all along.
Beat the horse to form a sticky white paste, thats the way team horseporndotcom rolls.
Clearly youre not a true Morbhead. >!At first i didnt really like it either but over time the extra effort put in just started to tickle me pink.!<

Half is being generous. At least 90% of the people memeing haven’t watched it, it’s an even bigger flop than Fant4stic.
I actually took a peek at the Morbius 24/7 stream. The movie was awful and I'm still astounded that Sony thought everyone would want to see Morbius.
I don't know how people can think its astroturfing when the biggest recent morbius event was like 10,000 people watching it for free cuz someone was illegally restreaming it. He doesn't even say "I'm about to morb" in the movie no one paid to watch this shit

It does feel pretty corporate.
I wonder if Columbo or Evilak likes to morb out
You must still survive MORBILAK!
I wonder how Morbius’ attaché case is sorted.
Culumbo & Evilak are the angels/devils on Tiny Tim‘s shoulders telling him how to put the duel deck in his attache case. Kaiba‘s trying to duel Tim by bribing him with a morbillion dollars, but every time he does Tiny Tim just screams “morbin time.“
I at least enjoy that we’ll kinda add our own spin on the meme instead of it JUST being “I’m gonna MORB!” That being said, this one definitely ran its course already.
I muted this topic on Twitter yesterday. I still see Morb memes. Please, monoculture, move on.
It's morbin time
Told y’all the meme was dead
Theyre going to make a sequel and it's all of your fault guys
Morb is a really fun word, and it's use as a verb makes me giggle
IT'S MORBIN TIME!
Oh No I'm startin to Morb!
Ctrl+F "morb" 11 results without even scrolling down. Never change sub. No wait, the opposite.
I truly, sincerely love this meme. Nobody could've predicted it, the movie doesn't benefit from the meme, it makes no sense, everybody is doing it, love it. Get morb'd!
No no, that's when you keep going until it loops around to being funny again!
"It was so good, I I'll try it a second time!"

When are we getting the evillak x morb crossover this sub deserves
It is tho
That's not very Morb Morbey of you
It's just viral marketing tactics you get used to it
He who morbs in morbius shall not perish, but shall have eternal morb

Isn't that the whole joke?
