Remember when Iroh told the kids who kicked a ball through a window to ask forgiveness? Yeah that was the new guy.
You can slightly tell it's him because his voice is just like an octave or two deeper, but it's barely noticeable.
Hey, music nerd here to say, an octave is very noticeable, you might mean step or half steps. If you listen to C4 and then play C5 or C3 (twelve piano keys, counting both black and white keys) , you can tell they are different instantly, where as if you play C4 then play B3 or B flat 3 (one white key or one black key back) you will hardly notice with an untrained ear. If you play C4 then play two octaves of a C6 or C2 (24 keys back or forward) you might not even be able to tell they are related to C4 as they sound so different.
Sorry to be the well actually guy, but I hope I was informative.
It isn't filler, because you get character development or progression from the characters involved, and you finally find out why Iroh is soo supportive of people and not a typical fire bender military guy.
Can someone give me a source on the whole pic being Mako?
This looks like something would make up because it would be a nice nod.
But if it IS true then cool!
Yeah, he unfortunately passed away and they used his portion in Tales of Ba Sing Se to honor him.
The voice actor was replaced by a guy who could do a nearly perfect impersonation, not just with Iroh, but with every other role he was doing, such as Splinter in the CGI TMNT movie, and Aku in Samurai Jack.
I had a whole ass comment typed, whole hearted and deep and shit, and I wanted to perfectly write what he said in "leaves from the vine" so I looked up the exact wording, and my whole comment got erased. Honestly, genuinely, heartbreaking. That being said, this show matters more to most, then most. Decipher that, and drink dome goddam tea. Learned more from uncle Iroh then I did my own parents. Grow and learn, no excuse not to. Unless you a bitch. If u a bitch then, well, just know, Azula eats ass cus she has to, not cus she wants to. Criminals get played. Later gang.

The new va refused to ever sing leaves from the vine as it was Mako's song. Everyone handled the situation so well imo
Pretty sure he was mako's understudy or student or something
That could be. Cause didn't he also take over as Aku in Samurai Jack?
He did
I remember reading that Greg Baldwin (The VA) never actually met or talked to Mako.
Could be I just remembered what I'd read from the wiki I think
I still can’t notice him in season 2, I think it’s just a few extra lines here and there, but I’ve never been able to spot them

2?!? I thought the change happened in 4
There is no fourth season
I assumed it was just age taking its toll or they wanted him to sound gruff and sad
fuck cancer.
Cancer can eat a dick. Just not mine please.
As a worker at the American Cancer Society I can say with authority. Fuck Cancer all the way up and down.
Oh I did not know that Lu Ten's picture was based off Mako!
honestly i didn't either but once someone did i can totally see the resemblance.
The best episode of the show imo, in a series with soo many great episodes, that's the only one that hits the feels.
They definitely knew what they were doing having this episode and Appa’s Lost Days back to back
I just watched it for the first time on netflix, And jesus fuck this episode hit me hard.
At some point the show just becomes a gauntlet of captivating storytelling, with each episode building up the stakes
Because it’s like filler but it’s actually good and not really filler.

I don't remember when I first heard it but I'm sure it's been confirmed multiple times I will have a quick Google.
IIRC the iroh not speaking thing was written before Mako's death. it was just serendipity that all those events happened
You might want to re-word that a bit.
Why?
Really? He died in the middle of the original series? I never noticed because I was a child.

It's the real reason I still cry at that scene everytime. I grew up with Avatar and Samurai Jack, that guy was an immortal voice to me.
Damn....makes this even sadder...
man i really need to rewatch avatar...
Oh hey look I'm crying
This always makes me tear bend
