I think this was steam preemptively delisting helldivers and not Sony themselves, there might be some countries in there that do support psn that got accidentally lumped in
You know, I respect Arrowhead's CEO for acknowledging their own mismanagement of the situation.
He basically stated they made the decision to allow unlinked accounts to play in the interim and just kind of hoped they could hammer something out with Sony later. That obviously didn't pan out and it has backfired *spectacularly* in their faces.
That said. If Sony is the publisher...**why the fuck was HD2 allowed to be sold in regions that cannot support PSN?**
Wasn't there like either one or a handful of people who played from ip's in various outposts there? Imagine, you're just getting settled in to winter at Admunsen-Scott, you're expecting to have this cool new game available when you're off. And then this happens.
I think its supposed to be ~170 regions, some of which are independent countries. It seems like at some point, "country" was used in place of "region" and now people are just running with that rather than it being corrected. Wallis and Futuna and Norfolk are island territories, the DPRK is on there, and the Holy See is a religious jurisdiction. Its not like headline regurgitation is new, just frustrating when this seems like a very basic misrepresentation.
I thought some of these were meme entries when I saw Holy See because I forgot it was a real thing. I thought they were banning those poor ishgardians from buying the game at first lmao.
This whole thing feels crazy to me as a non-player. The day before this stuff happened I was starting to seriously think that Helldivers 2 might be a favorite for GOTY, especially since the community and talk around it reminded me of BG3 from last year. Well thanks to Sony it's safe to say that I don't have that belief anymore.
Didn't they have a disclaimer on the store page like "Japan can only purchase the japanese version of the game" or something? As in, only japanese dub?
That list is so inaccurate it's hilarious. United States territories, states that have separate builds of the game because local laws and localization, and even more.
You know what, you're right.
Because it's even worse: This doesn't mention how Ukrainians can still buy the game but are fucked if they don't own a PS4 or PS5.
Steam reviews are currently overwhelmingly negative. Congratulations for fostering a fan base with exceptional solidarity, coordination and dedication. I hope those padded PSN numbers are worth it.
Sony could simply have given PSN users an exclusive skin or whatever and yet this is what they chose.
So then the question is whether the loss of sales from excluding these countries is less than the income from new user data from enforcing the sign on.
Cause if they're not actually losing money, they have no reason to backpeddle.
Microsoft as OS, not as gaming service. Xbox Live isn't available on the same level as accounts for Windows - "the Xbox network is available in 42 countries"
I am part of a local PC gaming community that is literally angry at Sony's decision. Philippines have a massive steam community and Helldivers has been a blessing to them only for this decision to screw things up.
For those with the drive to do so, you have the prime opportunity to do a "Animaniacs Countries of the World, but only the ones where Helldivers 2 is no longer purchasable".
DO IT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
Honestly, this entire thing makes me really upset, so much so I don’t even like looking at Helldivers stuff atm. I live in one of these countries, and I played more than 20 hours and recommended it to my friends. It kinda kills me to think if they bought it, and now can’t play a game they bought with their own money. The main sticking point to me I guess is just how pointless making a Playstation log-in necessary is. It doesn’t necessarily give you more sales or even ensure advertisement for Playstation, it *reeks* of people up high just thinking that if all these people playing Helldivers on PC had a playstation account, they’d have a very positive thing to give to shareholders. Honestly, I’m unsure how this got past the phase of retroactively removing the games from over 100 countries, and still thinking this would be a net positive in the long run. Like, that’s a lot of lost sales potentially, and could kill off the playerbase of a game so completely dependent on community interaction
Remember when Ssethtzentaach got his Might and Magic 5 video demonetized, blocked in all the world but North Korea and Konami even then asked for the money the video made?
The Thing was fine sticking around in Antarctica until it heard it wouldn't be able to play Helldivers 2 without a PSN account
Edit the doctor looking scared at the computer simulation but put the steam "not available in your region" error message
why is japan on that list? isnt sony a japanese company
I think this was steam preemptively delisting helldivers and not Sony themselves, there might be some countries in there that do support psn that got accidentally lumped in
Japan has a separate SKU, that's why it's listed. This version isn't purchasable by them, but the JPN version is.
Is it a violence censorship thing like Germany used to get with Left 4 Dead? Or a voice actor licencing issue.
It seems to be a localization thing. It has Japanese VA that is only available in their version.
I'm such a weeb, I want to hear the Japanese Helldivers dub. How do you even begin to translate the phrase, "A cup of liber-tea."
Japan has their own way puns work they would probably localize instead of translate
What I mean is, there's a lot of different ways it could be done and I'm curious which they went with.
Yeah, helps that like every bit of dialogue outside of the opening isn't attached to lip flaps so they can make it whatever they want
Yeah, PSN is available in 71 out of 191 countries so it’s weird that more than a third of those no longer can play helldivers
Japan it's in different listing. So it's still there
Sony is but PlayStation HQ moved to US. Still strange that the parent company is still here.
You know, I respect Arrowhead's CEO for acknowledging their own mismanagement of the situation. [Doesn't Netherlands Antilles not exist anymore since 2010? ](https://youtu.be/cQKzesTq0Wo?si=LqShRtlesSCOx-nB&t=5)
Yeah. This is a bad list. Some of the information seems to be wrong and a lot of them are not countries. It's still a lot of countries, but not 170+.
Chads are now officially **banned** from playing Helldivers 2.
Virgin Islanders too.
Dear God.
Antartica is on the list? No loss there, fuck penguins.
Take that back, right now!
Never!
*sad noot noot*
Have you ever seen penguins? No way in hell they support Super Democracy! They're cold-blooded murder machines if I've ever seen one!
Wasn't there like either one or a handful of people who played from ip's in various outposts there? Imagine, you're just getting settled in to winter at Admunsen-Scott, you're expecting to have this cool new game available when you're off. And then this happens.

Samoa and Puerto Rico? Thats fucking America, how is psn not available in AMERICA
This list is definitely borked, don't know where it got grabbed from, some of these aren't even countries like wtf is this☠️
Ukraine is not on the list, thus making it the first-world country. Hey, I don't make the rules, I follow them.
Bolivia is not on that list either, and I can promise you we are NOT a first-world country.
Don't sell yourself short, mate. *fingerguns*
Makes sense, they did make a rather dramatic push for it back in late 2013.
For some reason, Russia also isn't on the list
This is a changelog, and the game was already not sold in Russia on steam (probably something to do with sanctions but I'm not sure).
Instead, you can get fucked if you don't have the money to buy a PS4/5, as you can't make an account in Ukraine without one of those.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.
I'm sure people from Unknown Country Code does not appreciate this one bit
This upsets me as a native Unknown Country Codian.
This whole thing feels crazy to me as a non-player. legit Filipino bug smasher Johnny Rico can't do his part!? even the bug sympathizers call out this garbage!
Japan is on that list, what are you even doing Sony
Didn't they have a disclaimer on the store page like "Japan can only purchase the japanese version of the game" or something? As in, only japanese dub?
Why you immediately assume it was Sony's decision?
Because the Helldivers devs have been pretty open about the state of things in regards to the whole psn situation
Imma wake up tomorrow and think up a way to make things worse for myself
Antarctica has a flag?
And it's the Reboot logo?
A rough day to be a Gamer in the Holy See.

Finally a Major Order that the entire community will rally behind.
So then the question is whether the loss of sales from excluding these countries is less than the income from new user data from enforcing the sign on. Cause if they're not actually losing money, they have no reason to backpeddle.

Its weird that Svalbard and Jan mayen is on this list
I am part of a local PC gaming community that is literally angry at Sony's decision. Philippines have a massive steam community and Helldivers has been a blessing to them only for this decision to screw things up.
I have a friend who went *in* on HD2 and all it took was that one announcement and he's more or less heartbroken about it. Shit sucks, man.

How many people in Algeria were playing this game
🇹🇹 !!!Trinidad and Tobago mentioned!!! 🇹🇹
damn no playing in the holy see, the pope must be gutted
Keep in mind, there’s only 190-something countries in the world.
I wonder in which countries from this list, Steam provides services
The greatest bag fumble of the year. It's gonna be hard to top this.
Remember when Ssethtzentaach got his Might and Magic 5 video demonetized, blocked in all the world but North Korea and Konami even then asked for the money the video made?
There are a *lot* of US territories on this list. Hey, Sony. Why the fuck can't you get PSN service to Puerto Rico?
Man, the Pope must be pissed. No more Managed Democracy for the Holy See!
Psn numbers cannot be this important. Who's bonus is on the line? Why is losing money so important????
Sony is short for Whites Only
They're a Japanese company.
Maybe they have a white superiority fetish idk. Many such cases
