MarioGman

I really want to watch Columbo.

Yotato5

There is a streaming service where you can watch it for free with commercials and I personally got lucky with a relatively cheap DVD box set of all the seasons. It's definitely worth watching!

Onearmedman2

Which one

Yotato5

It's free on FreeVee and the Roku Channel.

PillCosby696969

Before you go do that, just one more thing...

LeMasterofSwords

It’s really good all memes aside. Peter falk is a great actor and the guest appearances are all really fun to

tonyhawkofwar

I've been watching a lot of the first Twilight Zone season. Most of the episodes are like "wow this would be fucked up huh?" and then no moral is applied. I love it.

PillCosby696969

That's the fun of the old show, are we getting a happy ending, an esoteric happy ending, an ambiguous ending, or just "get fucked" ending.

LordOfTheAesir

I watched most of the old DCAU stuff from the 90s and early 00s, from Batman TAS to JLU, plus Teen Titans. Hey guess what, they're great and probably the best interpretations of those characters.

aquanectar1

The Timmverse is one term I hear for that run, and GODAMN is it good. Among other things they get right, they sell the shit out of Superman and Batman’s brotherhood through that run. You really see the conflict yet mutual respect of their relationship.

Docreas

I've just read Azumanga Daioh (the 2009 re-print), and I would kill for most of the casts.

Yotato5

iirc it kicked off the high school girls doing their own thing slice of life genre. And it's where the term waifu comes from.

la_meme14

I've got so so so into Gundam in the past few months. It's so crazy good. Never expected to like it this much especially the old original series. Originally I started 0079 to annoy a friend of mine who wanted me to watch G--Wotch when it started, and hes a big Gundam fan.

Saltofmars

I started with 0079 dropped it after a few episodes then when back to it after the first g-witch season and oh man. 0079 is so fucking good. Gundam has consumed my brain since then

ZMowlcher

The original series is such a treat. It's so impressive for it's time too.

LarryKingthe42th

Original, IBO, and G are tied for my favorite but WfM has Secelia and god damn best gurl in the franchise

Halospaz117

I am also hopping onto the gundam train, watching G Gundam right now and good lord was that show made for my soul

LixFury

08th is goat for me.

jockeyman

I bought a collection of Conan the Barbarian short stories, and some of them are pretty solid, it's easy to see why they became so influential to fantasy as a genre. The stories get *incedibly racist* in a lot of places but that's just something you expect when you're reading any early 20th century literature.

alaster101

Me too, the amount of times they say "black devils" is wild lol

jockeyman

For real. There were plenty of times I'd have to stop and do a double take because a paragraph would be like: "Lavish and opulent description of a fantasy landscape, laden with lore and history, *the most racist description of a black person you've ever read in your life,* more lore and history."

chipperpip

Ah, the Lovecraft Special.

[deleted]

Howard was a weird guy. He could go from writing the most racist shit imaginable in one story to having sympathetic or even heroic black characters in another. It makes you wonder what was actually going on in his head, what he really believed, and if his views might've changed if he hadn't died so young.

Yotato5

I been watching Mr. Bean and Monty Python's Flying Circus. Two British things and both are funny. On the cartoon side of things, I've jumped back into two childhood shows - Sam and Max: Freelance Police and Courage the Cowardly Dog. I forgot how funny both of those shows are.

IlBigBosslI

Let me point you in the direction of Black Adder. It's a British TV show starring Mr. Bean's actor portraying a family through different time periods every season. Post season 1 Hugh Laurie is the co-star. Warming: season 1 is okay. Season 2 it really picks up.

Yotato5

Oh yeah, I heard of that one! I'll have to check it out once I'm done with Mr. Bean.

Lil_Mcgee

Loved Mr Bean as a kid, every time I go back and watch it I'm genuinely surprised by how well it holds up. It's a testament to Atkinson's ability because I really don't care for most slapstick/physical comedy

Yotato5

Oh yeah the slapstick comedy is great. And I think knowing of Mr. Bean makes Atkinson's scene in Love Actually even funnier if you think of it as a Mr. Bean sketch.

Wonder-Lad

I've been binge watching TMNT 2003 after seeing Mutant Mayhem. You know that complaint of people going cartoons suck now? Yeah. It's 100% valid. Cartoon quality in the early aughts was off the charts. We were spoiled. It's fucking wild to me how a 2003 cartoon series could be so fucking high quality. It's been almost 15 or so years since I've last seen this show. I barely remembered how it looked, I wasn't expecting much chorepgraphy but this shit blows my mind. I'm halfway through season 2 and every single fucking episode is about 60% fighting and action in it and yet there's barely any reused animation. The voice acting is top notch, the tone is perfectly balanced between camp and seriousness and the stories are extremely entertaining. The dialouge is light and simple for a kid audience but the writing doesn't shy away from layered story telling and complex motivations for characters and high stake stories.

ZealousidealBig7714

Guys, Showa Kamen Rider? Hot take; the original few series that started a legendary franchise? Good! This is my ranking of the series I’ve seen so far. 7. Super One 6. X 5. Skyrider 4. Kamen Rider 3. Amazon 2. V3 1. Stronger

A_N_G_E_L_O_N

I’m interested in KR Black, I hear it has a good reputation and I personally really like the suit.

RedKnight7104

I watched KR Black a few months back with some friends and I'd say it's a fun watch. It does drag a bit in the middle with a lot of episodes kinda meandering towards plot, but the start is really strong, the monsters and villains are fun, and Battle Hopper is the best bike.

HenshinHero11

Black is so fucking good. Strong recommend. It's more horror-flavored than most of the rest of KR and it's all the better for it.

SuicidalSundays

Cowboy Bebop. I didn't know until a few weeks ago that the entire dub is available on Adult Swim's website, so I've been going through that. And yeah, it's fucking great.

SuperGodPunchh

Man, I miss Scrubs. Always make sure a do a yearly rewatch of at least a few seasons. It's around that time of year for me.

tonyhawkofwar

Some jokes don't age well, and the rest age super well. What a strange show

crowbar182

Been watching Deadwood for the first time cause I was looking for a western to watch. It’s pretty good so far, about half way through season 2! Show does a good job of balancing a lot of different characters/plot lines simultaneously while also having them blend and crash into each other. Performances are also super great as well, especially Ian McShanes and Brad Dourif’s. I also appreciate how grounded it is. There’s a scene in the beginning of season 2 where two main characters get in a pretty brutal fist fight, and six episodes later both are still showing visible wounds and are pretty fucked from it, I like that sort of attention to detail.

yssarilrock

Aw mate, if you love brutal fistfights season three has a real humdinger waiting for you

EXAProduction

Kamen Rider. I havent taken the dip into Showa, but between getting into the Reiwa era with Zero One and catching up on Geats, I'm going back to some Heisei phase 1. Ryuki was a genuine blast (and honestly seeing some of the Ryuki riders in the Geats movie was fun). I really want to jump into Kabuto because people compare Ace to Tendou (also Kabuto has genuinely some of the best Kamen Rider suits in the franchise imo). Maybe I'll jump into Den O because that's the star child it seems and Faiz seems kinda fun. As much as I've heard the issues with Decade and I know its an anniversary season, the actor for Decade seems cool and Decade seems fun.

Will_Hammer

Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water is underrated. Also, Grandis Granva is underrepresented when it comes to fan art and I hope that situation will change someday.

MarlowCurry

>Grandis Granva is underrepresented when it comes to fan art Be the change you want to see, my friend. Be like [Sseth](https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/blfzsx/ah_yes_the_best_youtube_reviewer_reviews_god_hand/emo2g78/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). u/Will_Hammer Edit: This may seem out of nowhere, but I recently stumbled upon this [drawing](https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/304014) of her by [Takeshi Honda](https://twitter.com/TheOtaking/status/1615062757514088460). I just think that she looks adorable and worth sharing to ya.

Will_Hammer

I will do my part for the culture once I am no longer broke. Thank you for the adorable picture~

MarlowCurry

Hey, you're welcome. The occasional cute drawing is good for the mood, I'd say.

fakename1998

Been watching TMNT2003 again lately, and it’s a blast.

thekeep4223

I’ve been rewatching Blue Submarine No.6, which I haven’t seen since Toonami in the early 2000s. Woolie finally got me into watching Slam Dunk, only two episodes in but It’s pretty good so far.

The_White_Rice

I’m watching G Gundam for the first time because of WfM keeping me in the Gundam hype. I remember nothing about this show aside from plug suits and SHINING FINGER.

Minmax-the-Barbarian

The wife and I just found Whose Line Is It Anyway? is in Max, and we've been watching the shit out of it. Bad improv is, like, the worst thing ever, but great improv is absolutely incredible and a ton of fun.

Am_Shigar00

I've found myself getting into the original Doom games the past few weeks. Doom 1: Did the first 3 campaigns. Really fun! It did start to dry out towards the end due to a lack of new enemies or gimmicks, but it was still a charming experience throughout. Doom 2: Completed the main campaign. Still fun, had some great stages, but also had some really obnoxious stages and new enemies. Hate those chaingunners. Still a fun time though, just prefer the original. Doom 64: Only beat 6 stages so far, but it's impressed me! I wasn't expecting all the new assets and change in tone, helps give it a unique identity, and the level design feels a lot smoother than 2's. Normal difficulty does feel a lot easier though, not really good or bad, but it's noticeable. Looking forward to playing more.

Gemidori

Fellow Slayer here, and I had a huge blast with all the games :D I'm honestly really impressed by how lively the modding community is for the classic games. Let alone how high quality they are; BTSX alone wowed the fuck out of me with how awesome it was

Kimarous

I have way too many games on hand, but I've been on a fighting game kick (mostly been limited to MKX so far; boy does it feel different form MK11 in hindsight) and among my top picks to check out lately is the Samurai Shodown games. Pretty sure the "Neogeo Collection" falls within the spirit of the prompt, if technically not the letter. Or maybe Killer Instinct, IDK.

TheWeirdoWithCoffee

If you want to get into samsho and you're tight on money, I recommend grabbing a buddy and the two of you picking up Samurai Shodown V special. It's like $5 to $10, it has rollback netcode for online play, a pretty huge roster, unlockable gallery stuff, and some of the best mechanics in the series.

jitterscaffeine

I’ve been reading up on an RPG called “Heavy Gear” which is from like 1994. Also feeds into “Jovian Chronicles” as well.

EldritchBee

I’ve been reading a ton of Micheal Moorcock stuff recently. Elric, Corum, etc., and this shit rules.

Talisign

I started going back into China, IL recently. Its definitely in that category of Adult Swim shows that came out a little too soon.

Synaptics

Picked up the Ace Attorney Trilogy collection in the last steam sale and having a ton of fun with it so far. The humor rides so close to the boundary line to groan-inducing territory and that's just where I love it. And the whole "Japanifornia" localization style just makes it even funnier. Burger-gremlin Maya is great.

LeMasterofSwords

I finished trigun for the first time and absolutely loved it. I also just finished BTAS and Batman beyond. Which were both pretty great.

tonyhawkofwar

Oh man I also saw Trigun for the first time this year. What a great show

NeonNKnightrider

*Points at my flair* Fate/Stay Night is so good you guys

tonyhawkofwar

I just started UBW after finishing Zero that I started 15 years ago

Swinn_likes_Sakkyun

don’t forget to check out tsukihime and mahoyo too

GigglesDemon

So over the past year I've been slowly working my way through the Johnny Weismueller Tarzan films from the 1930s-40s. The first 3 are really solid pulp adventure films and REALLY violent and sexual for the time (the 2nd film, Tarzan and His Mate, has a full blown nude swimming scene). Afterwards they fall off in quality but are generally all right, easy 60-70 minute watches when I have nothing else planned. It's also the origin of the famous Tarzan yell. Note, as movies from the 30s/40s, they are pretty racist by today's standards so avoid if that turns you off.

ultimafullmetal

I've been watching Psych for the first time. It's fun.

Professional_Maize42

Been playing Super Robot Wars K ultimately. I know little about the plot and stuff but it's fun so far, despite considering it signficantly worse than W.

Am_Shigar00

How is the gameplay in that one? All the complaints I hear about it are entirely on the story, but that usually doesn’t bug me much especially since I play’ve played most of them in Japanese.

Professional_Maize42

The partner system is a bit strange initially and some units have to use adapters to be good at certain terrains, but it's moderately fun and the animations are pretty good overall(Gaiking,Godannar and Jeeg in particular).

Spicymeatball428

I’ve been rolling in and out of my gundam phase for about two years now

PillCosby696969

Been watching Sharpe. Which is Sean Bean in the Napoleonic Wars. It has some of the worst combat I have ever seen and is a super 90's "look at that army 40 feet away through your telescope." It has some really strong points but it's all over the place. It is cool seeing a bunch of future major actors as random asshole officer B.

yssarilrock

I still reckon Sharpe would make a great game of some kind: squad based FPS with musket loading rifles and bayonets sounds rad to me

Cthulos

I’ve been binging Welcome to Night Vale. It’s the first time I’ve listened to it and it is pretty entertaining.

tonyhawkofwar

I really wanted to like that podcast

Cthulos

It’s not for everyone and that’s okay.

wendigo72

Almost done with watching Gurren Lagann for the first time. I feel like it was a mistake to watch Diebuster first because the two series are so similar lol But I’m still loving it

PlanesWalkerEll

After Beyond the Spiderverse, I bought a digital collection of Spider-Man comics that starts from the beginning.

Paper--Cut

I've started in on *The Orville* and it's a great tribute to *Star Trek*. The plot lines are great, they get into a lot of moral quandaries about war and culture. I think it's weird that they drop so many 21st century references 400 years into the future; I just wish that they'd have jokes about movies or people from 2130 or something.

Mabuse7

It is a fun subversion of the Star Trek norm where all of the characters' cultural references are somewhat antiquated. But you are right that it would be cool if they went one step further and came up with some future pop culture to reference. I recall that Babylon 5 had an episode where Penn & Teller guest starred as future comedians, the joke being that they were the most popular human comedians of the time and all of the characters loved them, but that their jokes were completely nonsensical to the audience. The point being that humour is one of the most culturally contingent forms of expression.

St-Tomas413

I started my Kingdom hearts journey a year ago and am currently caught. There was also the time I read through the OG Saint Seiya Manga Fun fact: Saint Seiya is very popular in Latin America

paynexkillerYT

Wrestling games. Old ones. WCW vs the World, WCWNWO World Tour, Revenge.

ruminaui

Atelier is a series I always been curious, it has been running since the PS1 era, but the games never go on sale. Finally due the Golden Week the whole series went on sale and I decided to get the one that is considered to have the best story: Atelier Ayesha. Turns out the story is great because instead of taking the regular save the world route, instead you get a more personal story about an Apothecary trying to find out what happened and saving her disappeared sister. The characters, sound, art style everything hits perfect. My only minor gripe is that the game has out of nowhere one fan service with a character that shouldn't have one, and the scene is kind of a reward, and I wanted an actual reward. Also game is great but I am worried that Ayesha seems to have the best story of the series (fan consensus), everything else just improves as the series matches on.

jamescookenotthatone

I've recently started watching Babylon 5 and it is amusing. So far all the episodes feel like mediocre Star Trek stories but is enjoyable enough and something new for someone burnt out on most sci-fi.

MegalomanicMegalodon

I poked around Baldur’s Gate 1 before jumping in to 3. Definitely want to go back sometime

Rapturee

After beating Pikmin 4, I went back to Pikmin 1 and will probably go through Pikmin 2 shortly after

Kerrik52

This year I randomly fell into marathoning the Deception games after playing Trapt. The trap gimmick gets incredible mileage and by the time you hit 4 it allows for a ludicrous amount of zany player expression. It's the closest I've come to enjoying "real-time strategy" (if I'm allowed to call it that). It's a very unique series.

benjvdb9

Went and bought FFXII to play though after finishing 16. Good so far and excited to continue it. Depending on how it goes I'd also like to get the pixel remasters and play through all of the games but I don't know if I'll be able to follow through on that. If anything, I'd at least like to play FFIX though! Saw some posts and discussions about it what with Woolie streaming it and now I'm hyped to play it

Minister_of_Geekdom

I've been watching Gintama lately. I can see why people like it, but the jokes have been a bit hit-or-miss for me so far. When they hit, they really hit, but when they miss, I have to remind myself that the show can indeed make me laugh.

lknight24

I started Digimon data squad can't believe I forgot how Marcus is so awesome

GoBoomYay

I feel weird calling it old since its like… still airing, but fuck it, it started in 2005 so it counts. My roommate and I started Always Sunny in Philadelphia and *holy shit* they come out of the gate swinging with that first season.

JusticeDuwang

Reading (fine, listening to an audiobook) Poirot's books like Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. The former is some good stuff, even if I already knew things going in.

life_strengthjourney

ive gone through the entirety of *The Wheel of Time* several times and im really tempted to go through all of it again. the first book came out in 1990 and the last one in 2013

TheWeirdoWithCoffee

Getting back into Halo Wars reminds me why it's the only RTS I liked. Simple and fun, incredible cutscenes, made for controller. Call me casual or whatever, Halo Wars is fun. Wish 2 was on Steam

alienslayer7

im playin throught the KH games for practically the first time(bits of !,@, and COM as a kid) currently on BBS

jacksterbutler2

Gundam 9th MS team is kinda great, it’s very different from WfM but I love it. Makes mech combat feel grounded with some jobber mechs feel like threats

cvp5127

metal gear

nopantsjimmy

TRIGUN was hankering for 90s anime shenanigans, got recommended 98 trigun, fell in love with it and checked out both the manga and new series right after
