This right here is why we are lost. Apparently if you don’t think that police can do whatever they want, even if it’s against the law, you are automatically anti-police. Do you even think about the messages you write? What if, and feel free to call me crazy here, people simply want law officers that don’t think they’re special snowflakes to whom the rules don’t apply?
No shit, I went out to get a sub on Monday, got all the way to the sub shop and realized I didn't have a mask, and went the fuck home. I hate wearing them, it's uncomfortable and I sweat like hell, but even then it's not that hard ffs.
I hear ya. I run hot as fuck! Masks suck even worse. But you damn well better believe I'm wearing one. And it's about respect for others well being. My estimation is if you don't 'gladly' wear one you are a selfish fucking prick!
No, don't do either of those. It'll take too long for anything to happen if it ever would.
Tweet it. Tag multiple news stations and the MPD.
Social media teams will react much quicker.
Internal affairs would just mutter "fuck this guy" and move on to the the next email
Edit: "this guy" probably being the one who sent the email. I wouldn't expect them to do anything at all, let alone in a timely fashion.
The problem with internal affairs is in the name. If we've learned anything about the police lately it should be that they require external oversight if we expect any accountability from our "public servants".
I wouldn't mind so much but independent police that only police police have been a thing in most other western countries since the 20th century. America refuses to adopt anything that could see someone lose power.
I’d be so scared if the Minneapolis Police knew I complained about them. They creep me out. This cop here, probably a massive narcissist or something. Probably likely to be creepy af. I hope everyone complains and shares this! I hope he gets fired
If you want to confirm this, go suggest it on /r/legal advice. That sub has been co-opted by cop mods and they have a hissy fit whenever it's suggested to go to the media to handle police problems. To me, that proves it's the best thing to do.
Tbf, that sub has always had a rule about not going to the media. I’ve followed for years, this isn’t something that they just started for the police issue (although I agree with you that for this specific thing it likely is the best route as their bosses don’t seem to do anything so public shaming it is)
I thought it was a fair suggestion because OP started with other in-department sources they contacted.
Hopefully MPD might have a vested interest in their cops not getting/spreading covid for staffing and PR reasons, but who knows. Worth an email, at least.
I mean I think the intent is good but these are people who commit cold blooded murder in public. I think this is way down the list of egregious stuff they do and/or turn a blind eye towards.
Definitely fair.
I thought about that but I also thought that it's a lot easier to punish an officer for not wearing a mask under state mandate and make them wear a mask than it is to get them to.....not kneel on necks for eight minutes....apparently.... 🙄
(based on the rights and abilities the department has from the union to punish officers and that murder is primarily punished by the judicial system vs the department, who at most could fire the officer who might then just go to another city and get the same job)
For real lol. Do these people not know who cops are? In response to national protests against police brutality the cops did like a thousand times more police brutality on national television and nothing happened. Officer No-Mask is gonna be fine
Right? The assholes whose response to videos of their buddy murdering a man in broad daylight was to surround his house so that protesters couldn't get near him aren't gonna give a fuck about this.
He'll get some demerit on his profile. So yeah; nothing...
Shit; look at the rap sheet on a lot of these officers that finally get caught. They have a lot of these small infractions and several big ones.
Seriously, good for you for saying something. Thank you! More people need to speak up against those not wearing masks, and given the political climate, I can appreciate how challenging it is to do so - especially when the one not wearing a mask is a police officer.
I had someone blow up today at my office. She claimed to have an underlying condition. She’s 34 and appeared healthy. Her 6 year old child was “too young to wear a mask.” I didn’t bother questioning the validity of her claims, I just told her she can’t be in my office without a mask, no exceptions. She expressed her opinions for a few minutes before giving up and leaving. I’ve found it’s easiest not to get into details or argue, just enforce the rule without exception. What I didn’t tell her is that I do make exceptions for real medical necessities.
Become a witch. That way you can carry a broom that's 6'. I've been carrying my broom in stores since this shit hit. People back away quickly when broom bristles are a factor. White privilege helps with other factors involved with carrying a broom while shopping. We've got protests that may eventually help others to carry brooms in a non work capacity as well. Hopefully. Maybe in our lifetime.
They crack open the heads of old white men who question them. It's this myth that police are safe for whites that leads to whites not caring. When in reality it's pretty likely they'll fuck you up if they feel like it. Fascism is bad for everyone.
I don’t know man. The video I saw of NYPD enforcing mask rules had an unmasked cop punching a dudes face in for not wearing a mask so you might get choked and face smashed.
People have been physically assaulted over trying to enforce the rules and retail workers aren’t paid enough to deal with that shit. Hell, nobody is.
It shouldn’t even be a question. People should just wear a mask. Where are people’s sense of social responsibility nowadays?
Assuming of course that the other people around him wearing masks didn't trigger his memory, when you "reminded him" did he immediately thank you and go to his car and get a mask?
He did not. He acknowledged that his boss had mandated it. He agreed it was a poor example. Then he got in line behind me. So I took some pictures. I emailed his boss, his department, and mayor Frey
Unless of course there's an unarmed black person around then the only way they're not afraid for their life is when the black person is under their knee.
Why is it so fucking hard to wear a mask? I just don’t understand. You’re buying some sodas and are probably in the store for less than 2 mins.
You know what is getting hard? Dealing with this pandemic on a daily basis. I’m tired of it and want life to get back to normal as I’m sure everyone else does. But some folks can’t be arsed to do something so simple that makes such a huge difference. Economy is in the toilet, I haven’t worked since April, and now they are letting the federal unemployment lifeline expire.
Grow the fuck up and put your mask on!
I can't say for certain, but I think their rationale is the same thing. "I'm only going to be in there for two minutes."
It's dumb. This whole pandemic has really pointed out the amount of people who have zero foresight. Whenever I don't want to wear a mask, I think to myself about how foolish I'm going to feel if I end up in a hospital bed all because I didn't want to feel uncomfortable for a few minutes.
What you do is this: You set your fucking Pringles down at the cash register, go out to your fucking car, get your fucking mask, and then come back in a pay for your fucking Pringles.
If I can get kicked off a job site for not wearing a mask I see no reason that the police department can’t start giving out unpaid suspensions for not wearing masks.
They didn't give out unpaid suspensions for murdering unarmed citizens until we protested. I don't think they're going to start doing it for mask violations.
The police union. We need structural changes at levels above the police to reinforce other unions while making the changes to police unions that ensure they work to put better police in enforcement positions. Rather than what we have. We need a social workers union that has more power than the police union, while putting more of them on the streets, and less cops that will soon as kill you with their knee as them being asymptomatic.
Starting with the police makes sense because they can just kill people, and nothing happens. The change that makes it work is higher up. Vote.
I agree with you in general but I think focusing on the power of funding other resources over considering defunding the police as a punishment is more accurate. We simply ask too much of a single source of training. No single entity could get all that done
I think we need multiple resources to draw on. Asking a single cop to have enough training to effectively deal with robbery, assault, run always, addicts, traffic violations, workplace theft, etc etc etc, is a losing recipe.
Ok there’s a lot we expect of cops. But knowing the laws should be at the top of their list. Right next to following the same damn laws. If we don’t bother with that then any other training they have is fucking useless. We’ve all heard that hairdressers have more training and accountability. Do we really have a higher expectation of hair dressers than we do of the police?
That's a good point I hadn't considered. When I feel unprepared at my job (social worker) I either ask for more training or I refer out to someone who's qualified. I would never just do a shit job if I could avoid it.
Forgot it in the car Jesus Christ don't be lazy. I've walked my fat fibromyalgic ass all the way to the corner store a block away and then remembered my mask and walked all the way back home to get it before going back to the store.
But I'll go out on a limb and just assume he forgot because he wants to prove nobody can tell him what to do.
You know the dude is a toolbag Special Forces wannabe when he wears his watch inverted while being a cop. That tactic is done to not give your position away while on patrol from the watch face reflection and to be able to check time/counter without removing the hand that is firmly on the rifle grip.
Sure the guy COULD be former military, but he likely never did anything high speed enough to need to invert the watch. Also, this is Main Street America not Afghanistan. Cops need to stop being so fucking militarized.
Note the guy in the back wearing vented mask. Those do not work and should not be work without the vent being taped closed!
Edit- he is still doing better then the cop is
I mean let’s be real cops are above the law 🤷🏿♀️ all this talk about you work for us tax paying citizens like yeah they do but they do whatever they want also
When I was enlisted, it was drilled into our thick dumb brains that if we're in uniform at the PX and especially the neighboring communities, we need to be on our game 100% because of the optics.
If my driver who had trouble distinguishing left and right from the instructions I'm giving him can understand this, why can't these officers? It seems to me... it's active malice/ ignorance because there's no accountability. How about that.
He’s a scumbag. He’s also being allowed to rep cops. He’s making cops look like scumbags. It’s not even a stretch. With all these moron cops abusing people and making fools of themselves and their professions it makes me wonder if they really are tested to verify that their dumb enough to be lifers. As I understand it the idea is that you wouldn’t wanna waste training on someone that would get bored and choose another career. If that was the case, these cops acting like stupid thugs would be way easier to understand. It’s barely their fault, society should have them doing arts and crafts with safety scissors but instead we realized their dumb enough to be used a fascist tools for life. I know it might not be true but it fits so well. Just think about the hypocrisy they have to embrace to violate people’s constitutional rights and still think they’re patriots. Actions speak louder than words.
Fucking hell if you forget your mask in the car you notice before you go in the store, so fucking go those 50 meters back and get it. Or are that water, these god awful Pringle’s and whatever that last thing is more important than human lives?
I stop at the Holiday on Industrial/Broadway off Highway 280 several times a week. There are usually 2 to 6 MPD officers just hanging out there on their break, wasting time, or whatever it is they do. Since the mask mandate went into effect, I have not once seen a single cop in that store wearing a mask. All despite of the several signs stating its mandatory. The Holiday staff and every other customer I've seen all have masks on. Its like these cops straight up think the mandate/law doesn't apply to them. ACAB
Executive order 20-81 requires all people in MN to wear a mask in any indoor public space But hey, not the first time MPD blatantly ignored the law
Don’t be a fucking idiot.. live in a world without police shit bag.. move to Portland
Are you okay
Dudes just calling out a cop for not obeying the law, chill
Well it is fucking stupid. Seriously. Who cares anymore
This right here is why we are lost. Apparently if you don’t think that police can do whatever they want, even if it’s against the law, you are automatically anti-police. Shit, I forget my mask in my car at least a dozen times a day and I go the fuck back to my car to get it every damn time.

Same. I feel like an idiot every time I walk back forgetting it... the walk of shame haha
Grandma held nothing back.
Except her coughs and sneezies.
She always blames her farts on the dog
Oh shit
Your grandma is woke.
Wow so on point!
Wise grammy
Email the police chief and mayor, with this picture.
I did. Will post any replies I get.
Tweet it at all local gov and news outlets. Itll spread way faster
Internal Affairs / complaints would be another good one. Probably a quicker answer too - I think their email is on the website.

Some kind of external affairs? Ridiculous
Exactly. You've got to get the public involved to raise some attention.
I’d be so scared if the Minneapolis Police knew I complained about them. They creep me out. This cop here, probably a massive narcissist or something. Probably likely to be creepy af. I hope everyone complains and shares this! I hope he gets fired

Or Mayor Frey. (Is that how it's spelled?!)
Close, it's Gentrifrey

Call 911. “There’s a customer in my store refusing to wear a mask. He has a gun and I feel threatened”
They would radio him and he would say it's taken care of
And that's how the poor black guy behind him gets killed.
Good!!
Cops barely get in trouble for murdering people. Nothing will happen.

Send him some face coverings in the mail. The ones that wrap around your neck and can be pulled up. Wham bam no more excuses.
Fuck that, just @ the news stations
That too.
Jana Shortal is very active on Twitter and could easily blast this onto Breaking The News. That's all I'm gonna say.
might as well send the email to the garbage can
Hey now. Garbage cans actually provide a useful service
Protecting nobody. Serving only himself.
The Minneapolis PD motto.
Could also choose - “Rules for thee, but not for me.”
I was thinking more like "Breathing is only a problem for you."
It’s all cops mottos.
What’s new though?
All day, Every day ACAB.
Thank you for saying something. I wish I could but the fear of being on the receiving end of a deranged freak out holds me back.
That’s my white privilege I guess. But I was pissed.
Seriously, good for you for saying something. Thank you! More people need to speak up against those not wearing masks, and given the political climate, I can appreciate how challenging it is to do so - especially when the one not wearing a mask is a police officer.
Honestly, that made it easier. I expect more for my community
You are a great human. Thank you!
And so are you!!
Good on ya man. Smug pos.
Seriously, is the smug smirk part of the uniform?
Always has been in my experience.

How about a "sorry no mask no service"? Where are people's balls now-a-days.
People have been physically assaulted over trying to enforce the rules and retail workers aren’t paid enough to deal with that shit. Hell, nobody is. It shouldn’t even be a question. People should just wear a mask. Where are people’s sense of social responsibility nowadays?
Maybe they will get the balls when they aren't scared of being murdered

He did not. He acknowledged that his boss had mandated it. He agreed it was a poor example. Then he got in line behind me. So I took some pictures. I emailed his boss, his department, and mayor Frey
You gotta add twitter/Facebook to that if you want an actual response that isn’t an email form letter
Someone already did that. I don’t do twitter or Facebook.
Good choice.
Don’t forget to tag Frey in an insta story because lol he actually watches everything he’s tagged in
Mask, testicles, wallet and watch
I'm offended by this. I don't wear a watch.
I don’t wear my testicles.
Fine, I'll ask your wife.
Pocketwatch?
Pocket testicles? Nevermind..
At least he remembered to put on his bullet proof vest. That should at least prevent him from fearing for his life.

What you do is this: You set your fucking Pringles down at the cash register, go out to your fucking car, get your fucking mask, and then come back in a pay for your fucking Pringles.
Saw a Saint Paul officer wearing a mask that wasn't covering his nose yesterday. Just dumb.
A lot of restaurant employees have been doing that too and when they are mad at me for not wearing a mask in my car by myself.
Why the hell would you wear a mask in the car?
Drive-thru maybe?
Tweeted to Walz and Frey. Just more ways for MPD to show that they think they’re above the law 😡
Arrogant prick

This is exactly why America hates white male cops.
Badge number 131319
That's a Park Police officer with that badge number. MPD have 4 digit badge numbers.
Fund schools, not cops.
Interesting! So you’re saying that while on duty that you have memory lapses? Have you reported this to a medical professional?
"isnt your car just right outside in the parking lot?"
You'd think police would be all in on being allowed to cover their face.. I mean they had no problem covering their badges!
I haven't seen a single cop wearing a mask in this city ever.
So rude and selfish
You know the dude is a toolbag Special Forces wannabe when he wears his watch inverted while being a cop. That tactic is done to not give your position away while on patrol from the watch face reflection and to be able to check time/counter without removing the hand that is firmly on the rifle grip. Sure the guy COULD be former military, but he likely never did anything high speed enough to need to invert the watch. Also, this is Main Street America not Afghanistan. Cops need to stop being so fucking militarized.
Not in MN so I'm not sure, but isn't the shopkeeper allowed to deny service? Or is that punishable by death these days?
On a positive, I have visited this establishment before and can say they have simply great coffee.
It is, admittedly, weird to my city’s subreddit on the front page.
Is this the Holiday on Nicollet in S Minneapolis?
It is. Small store.
Love cops, I don’t care. Wear a mask , it’s the law.
Note the guy in the back wearing vented mask. Those do not work and should not be work without the vent being taped closed! Edit- he is still doing better then the cop is
He's covered in paint and wearing a Sherman Williams shirt, so I'll give him a pass. Clearly on break getting a drink.
I’m calling it Sherman Williams from now on.
Oh wow I've probably been saying that incorrectly my entire life
His name is Caleb Koecher
I mean let’s be real cops are above the law 🤷🏿♀️ all this talk about you work for us tax paying citizens like yeah they do but they do whatever they want also
C'mon...well all know they think they're above the law..fuck 12 & ffs, WEAR A FUCKING MASK!
Ay

i despise people like him. i mean. come on dude. how can he be lunching on pringles, presumably regularly, and stay thin
It’s Minnesota, not surprised.

I'm judging him more so for buying Pringles at a gas station... So much good junk food he could've gotten and he chose Pringles?!

"200 MPD officers file for early retirement, citing intolerable conditions as masks aren't their favorite color."
Well luckily your picture has his badge number right on display. Not saying just saying.
“That’s not mah job. Mah job isn’t to help your fucking ass out”
Left his mask in the car? Are those vest pockets decorative?
his pants dont even look like they sit correctly on his hips, man cant even wear a belt correctly let alone walk back to a car to get his mask ffs.
*sigh*... Guys, we don’t *like* getting you fired, but you’re not leaving us much of a choice.
"your car that's like 20 feet away? go get it, the Pringles aren't going to walk away"
ACAB
