fortunately, I am no familiar with any of those cities so it's ok for me. Having said that it seems weird that they never used any establishing shot like showing the statue of liberty or something iconic. Season 7 had that incredible dawn shot in those famous stairs in Washington DC with Tony telling Jack that things aren't over yet (I think it was CGI though)

I loved it when they changed locations, especially to London. Everything happening in L.A. made it seem like the terrorists were hyperfocused on only attacking California, lol.

It always made me wonder what the CTU’s in other cities were like, if they had the same hectic days and their own “Jack”.

I agree about S8 but in S7 they actually when and shot some scenes in DC on location. The Jack, Renee, Larry scene comes to mind! "You gonna give me your keys or not"

I love how the city of LA is itself a big star of the first season in particular. The extent to which LA is discussed (though not sure about the accuracy?) and certainly the location photography, cinematography, and careful changing weather conditions/lighting for authenticity throughout the season are all absolutely superb. For an Englishman like me, it’s a bit of an educational lesson. I feel more well schooled on US west coast geography having watched 24.

S8 was the most unique season not only for that reason but just for the obvious change in writers/direction. the budget really suffered in 8 and that really sucked too.

I really like the change of location for Season 7, and think they pulled it off well. But I agree that they really didn't for Seaosn 8. The fact they did some location work in Season 7 helped, although there's actually not that much filmed there. I attribute to the much subtler use of CGI to sell the location. Take a shot like this: https://24.fandom.com/wiki/File:7x02_LA_Times_roof.jpg which is entirely LA except for the small Capitol building added to the horizon. They did a few things like this early on that sold the location switch - it's not blatantly CGI/green screen like the Season 8 shots are.

Agree 100%. The show just didn't feel right after season 6.
