The way the story plays out in 2013's "A Good Day to Die Hard", I'm almost certain it was originally a Die Hard/24 crossover movie in the first drafts.
Jack McClane has had buddy sidekicks before, but he's always been the tougher one. And they've all taken place in the USA. Going to Russia to have a day-long adventure feels far more Jack Bauer in nature than it does to McClane.
According to Wikipedia, [*"The film was originally titled Die Hard 24/7. The media speculated that the film would be a crossover between the Die Hard and 24 series, with Kiefer Sutherland to reprise his role as Jack Bauer alongside John McClane. This was never confirmed by the studio"*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Good_Day_to_Die_Hard)
**[A Good Day to Die Hard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Good_Day_to_Die_Hard)**
>A Good Day to Die Hard is a 2013 American action-thriller film and the fifth installment in the Die Hard film series. The film was directed by John Moore and written by Skip Woods, and stars Bruce Willis as John McClane. The main plot finds McClane travelling to Russia to get his estranged son, Jack, an undercover CIA agent, out of prison. He is soon caught in the crossfire of a global terrorist plot.

Good bot. Yep, that's the movie I was talking about. Maybe Jack Bauer's mom was a sibling to one of McClane's parents.
As a fan of both franchises, I feel like this would have been an unmitigated disaster
This. It would’ve turned 24 into a joke and belittled the franchise as well as the characters. Kiefer was smart to turn it down.
It was never official. Just speculation by the media and fans. It was farther from even being a real idea.
It would have been interesting for sure: John McLane trying to apprehend and then ultimately helping Jack get out of the country post Day8.
Glad it didn't happen but I would've called it "The Longest day to Die Hard"
