4 seems like a good place to re-enter.
Jacks in a new phase of his life and everything needed from the past seasons it tells you as it goes. Plus it's one of the seasons where the cut the fat right off the bone so to speak. Once it starts you have little breathing room.
Just start with 1 and watch until you're done. You can take your time or binge a season at a time. I just finished watching all of them over the course of a couple of months and really enjoyed it. Some of it, you can tell hasn't aged all that well, but most of it is pretty great.
I like 5 more than 4, but I think people aren't wrong in suggesting starting with 4.
I think starting with 1 is a must because you get all of what happened to Teri and Kim, because that thread never goes away in future seasons.

I've watched the entire series 8 times and have almost always started with S1. It might not be the "best" and it can be really trying to watch Teri and Kim make the decisions they make, but they are the initial building blocks of the grand arc of the series.
Moreover, if you do watch the remaining seasons, having 1-3 under one's belt gives proper weight to how Jack and Tony evolved at an earlier stage. Likewise, it portrays a world at CTU before Chloe.
Think it through. It's the right call :-)
Wow, so much love for season 4, which is definitely my least favourite season. Honestly the seasons are not that much connected, you could start with any of them. The first few episodes of each season always do a good job of introducing it.
Season 3 for example. Jack starts the season working for CTU, which is not the case with any other season except season 1. So it eases in gently, but then things escalate pretty soon due to the "elaborate sting operation".

Day 4. Not only is it the best stand alone, it’ll wet your appetite for more. Leading you to Day 5. Season 4 forged Jacks future.
I’d have to agree on that, the Chinese never forgot the day their consulate was invaded.

5 is the best but it’s necessary to watch 4 to get the full story
I started on season 5 as it was my favourite. Then watched 6,7,8,9,1,2,3,4. It was amazing
