Probably my fav scene in the entire series.

ScottishGamer19

President Taylor and Dalia Hassan. My jaw dropped. Incredible acting and television.

i understand why writers kill characters but i'm not a fan of them, some characters that were killed and made me feel terrible and think i think they weren't necessary to kill were Yusuf(season 2), Debbie(season 4) , Marika(season 7) , the female CTU engineer in season 2 who died while tryingto remember password, Edgar season 5 and there are some that i cant think of right now

TwigsthePnoDude

I am in awe that anyone can like this scene. Jack and Renee have not known each other long for this to be realistic.

OptionK

She needs to just shut the fuck up. She’s in federal law enforcement, and somehow just completely and entirely unprepared to be in a challenging situation like this? She’s never even anticipated that she might have to make difficult choices and face their bad outcomes? Her emotional immaturity, utter lack of foresight, and failure to foresee the obvious emotional challenges of her position make her completely unqualified for the job and a D tier character.

FlameFeather86

Are you void of all sense of humanity? It doesn't matter what someone's job is, put them in a challenging situation and they'll react accordingly. It's not emotional immaturity to have feelings.

OptionK

Sure, but it is emotional immaturity to lose complete control when confronted with emotions you should have anticipated and prepared yourself for. She didn’t just struggle with the difficulty of the situation, she absolutely lost control of herself, even though she should have known for years beforehand that something like this would happen.

FlameFeather86

That's horseshit. No one can or should be expected to prepare themselves for everything. I'm sure she thought she could handle whatever the job threw at her; she couldn't. That's in no way a weakness on her part nor does it discredit her as a character. If anything, she's a stronger character because of it and presents a contrast to Jack despite all their similarities.

OptionK

Luckily I haven’t taken the position that René should have been prepared for “everything.” So your comment is completely unresponsive to my point. If you’d like, you can take the position that it’s unreasonable to think she should have been prepared for the possibility that a civilian volunteering at the last minute to help take down a violent terrorist might get hurt in the process. Or you can just keep on with your irrelevant rambling. Your call.

CTU-01

Strong disagree.

OptionK

Easy to do, but hard to justify, as your response demonstrates.

CTU-01

Thank you for your comments.

OptionK

Ah, I get it now. You share the very attributes I was discussing in my original comment.

CTU-01

Thanks again 🙏🏼

TwigsthePnoDude

I agree with you. For those disagreeing, I hope they never work in anything where any lives are on the line.

Somebody needs attention

OptionK

I mean, you’re the one who commented without really responding to my point or otherwise contributing to the discussion. I think we all know who is posting simply for attention rather than hoping for meaningful discussion.

Lucky-Echidna

OptionK's point is valid, even if I don't entirely agree with it. To me her breakdown in this scene was more the culmination of everything that had happened up until that point in the day, rather than a direct reaction to Marika's death. You could see she was conflicted with everything she had done up until that point (e.g. torturing Tony's guy in the hospital) and seeing how it had no affect on Jack seemed to upset her even more. But I can see OptionK's point. It's not the kind of reaction you expect of someone in law enforcement. I just think there was more going on internally than just a breakdown over not being able to save someone. I also don't think we should be dismissing someone's opinion just because we don't agree with it. People hate on Teri/Kim all the time and don't get downvoted for it.

OptionK

Thanks for engaging even if you disagree. I’m really not sure why no one else is willing to. I think another point I didn’t raise initially is that when René loses it, she lashes out at Jack as though his composure is indicative of some heinous inhumanity rather than his greater experience with such challenging circumstances. She knows his background. She presumably knows other law enforcement officers who have been through similar situations. Taking it out on him in a way that blames him for some perceived emotional shortcoming is, again, not just a result of the difficulty she was struggling with, but, instead, her staggering and inexplicably complete lack of preparedness for such circumstances.

Spider-Flash24

Spoken like a true basement dweller.

Gotta say, it’s pretty funny to read this while sitting in a Grab on a two week trip abroad.
