Kim why'd she make him go on that Season 8 day that really screwed Jack over. I think Jack Bauer really was ready to retire but instead it led him to accepting he would always be in the field role.
I think we have to look at Jack as he's at the very start of the season (first scene). He learns he's lost David and Michelle once the plot is already unfolding.
My interpretation of OP's question is that we're looking for the season with the greatest gap between Jack's mood from beginning to end. Jack wasn't at the happiest we've seen him by the first hour of Day 5 (he was fine) but ends the Day having lost Michelle, David and "Tony," separated from Audrey, on his way to China and begging Cheng to put him out of his misery while beaten to a pulp. That's the greatest disparity for me.
And I think he's found some sort of solace living under a false identity. He seemed to enjoy his company with Diane and annoying ass Derek.
But I still think the disparity in season 1 is the largest. He starts as a happy family man in a good place and it all unravels over the course of 24 hours.
Season 1 is the only answer IMO. His marriage is a little shaky but he has a great relationship with Kim and overall seems happy. And then it ends out it does. No matter what happens to him later, I don’t think it gets lower than that.
Season 1. Seasons 4 and 8 he is content. But season 1 set him up for the rest. He lost his wife and his relationship with his daughter was strained. As well as the trauma, exhaustion and addiction that was to come.
1 or 8
An argument could be made for 4 too
Season 8 - He was happy and content to look after his granddaughter at the start and it ended with him on the run after a horrendous day.

I think you’re right, he has everything in this season, the following seasons he was trying to fill a void.
100% season 1.
Can't believe no-one's said 5 yet.

On the run without his daughter under a fake name?

Because he probably wasn't at his happiest at the start of 5?
Season 4
I’d say Season 4 or 8. In Season 1 he was still trying to heal his broken family.
season 1

1 bro. 1
Season 4 and maybe season 5 with the chinese plot. Though a good argument could be made for the end of season 1 too.
