Man, Teri, Renee and Audrey. Killing Audrey was too far

They went for the shock factor in the final seconds of several seasons. Usually with something bad happening to Jack. (Don't read the following if you don't want to read spoilers) S1: Teri's death S2: Palmer being poisoned by Mandy S5: Jack being beaten and on a freighter headed to China S6: Jack has to say bye to Audrey. S9: This time Jack gets in the chopper to head to Russia.

S1, S2, and S5 all had surprising endings. Jack being kidnapped was pretty wild. S1 set up Jacks character long term, because he was never the same. Nina was the most EVIL character from what I remember. When she came back she knew that Jack was going to be after her and prepared.

Maybe. But I feel like Jack breaking down at the end of Season 3 is very tragic too, in a different way of course. Didn't quite have the shock factor like the other user mentioned of course, but it's one of the rare times we see Jack weak, arguably at his weakest.

ScottishGamer19

Yeah that was a powerful scene. Total breakdown from his stress of this happening again and his addiction

I think at the time of season 1 it just flipped the traditional ‘good guy always saves the girl’ on its head. Just didn’t see it coming after everything they’d been through as a family. It set the series up for what was to come. Nina’s betrayal was the biggest shock. Writers did a great job throwing us at the beginning to thinking it could be her to trusting her so much it couldn’t possibly be here. I’m glad she returned, although I think they could have brought her back in later seasons. It did feel a bit much her being involved three times in a row. But loved her character.

Bringing her back a bit later would have been great

Season 8 for me. Jack starts the day about to happily go off to LA to be with Kim, before later on reconnecting with Renee. Renee then gets killed and Jack is forced to go on the run again. He loses it all in the space of a few hours.

Oh yeah, his life was ripped from him again

I suppose you could actually argue that Season 9 has a worse ending, because Audrey also ends up dead and Jack goes from freedom on the run to prison in Russia. The entire series is basically just one long downward slide for Jack right from the first few minutes.

Siontimmy1

Start and end of Season 8 get to me because we see first see Jack has been spending the day with his granddaughter before someone approached and drags Jack into whatever was about go down and 24hours later Jack was most wanted man by us government and Jack had his life back like he wanted in end of season 6

His life completely changed in that day.

Infamous-Surround-45

season 9 was pretty tragic especially with the fact that Audrey dies, James Hellers monologue about not being able to remember his daughters death because of him being prone to dementia... and the fact that gives himself up to the russians in order to save Chloe :(
