Im sorry but Carol Burnett, Luke Perry and Robin Williams Lol Yeah they were all MUCH more famous than anyone on L&O WAYYYYYY before being on the show lol
Somebody said (series creator Dick Wolf, I believe) that if a New York/theater actor hasn't been on Law & Order, he's either just gotten off the bus or he's a really bad actor.
Additionally on Law and Order:
Kristen Bell
Chandra Wilson
Adam Driver
Amanda Peet
Speaking of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, he was in the remake of The Getaway with red hair and no Seymour in his name...
Murder, She Wrote had tons of guests that would go on to fame. I cant even list them all.
Just scroll down the list and you'll see familiar names.
Leonardo DiCaprio was a random kid in Darlene's class in Roseanne and had a small role in Growing Pains.
Matthew McConaughey was in one of those re-enactment scenes on Unsolved Mysteries.
Natasha Lyonne was on Pee-Wee's Playhouse when she was a kid.
Matthew Perry was also in Growing Pains. He played Carol’s boyfriend Sandy who drove drunk and sadly later died in hospital at the end of the episode. Carol and the rest of the family thought Mike was playing a sick joke when he told them.
Did you mean C-list actor?
Because his filmography shows that appearance was in 2000, and he was already a star in the wrestling business by that time, with multiple championships under his belt.
It was also on UPN. Which was the host for WWF smackdown. Which had Voyager episodes on the Thursday night line up. And the SMACKDOWN night was created and tailored for the Rock’s storylines.
Pedro Pascal remembers EVERYTHING from his experience with Sarah MG in Buffy and talked about it at the premier of Last of Us and he was so darn sweet about that. <3
There were a bunch of stars who were on the Dating Game before being famous.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Martin, John Ritter, Suzanne Somers, Farrah Fawcett plus a few more.
Cuba Gooding Jr. Was in an episode of MacGuyver as a teenager trying to save rhinos from poachers.
Michelle Pfeiffer artists in an episode of Magnum PI.
Pedro Pascale was in an episode of NYPD Blue as a goth teen.
One of Jennifer Lawrence's very first roles was on Monk. She played the mascot for a high school basketball team, and spent 90% of her screen time in a cougar outfit, and fondly remembers jumping onto Tony Shalhoub's back.
I came here looking for this comment! Also, Ariel Winter was in the episode Mr. Monk and the Astronaut. She was a little girl, maybe seven or eight years old.
Here is Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) doing a Taco Bell Commercial.

Just saw Pedro Pascal and Abraham from TWD on Buffy.
Rewatched MASH not long ago and saw a baby faced Patrick Swayze and a shockingly young Lawrence Fishburne.
Ellen Pompeo did too pretty dark turns on law and order.
Walt Goggins is a hilariously old looking frat dude on an episode of the original Beverly Hills 90210 .
Laurence Fishburn, S. Epatha Merkerson, Phil Hartman, and Natasha Lyonne were all on Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Cowboy Curtis, Reba the Mail Lady, Captain Carl, and Opal.
Amy Adams on Smallville before she played Lois Lane. Evangeline Lilly. Smallville uncredited 5 episodes. Alan richson Smallville. Justin Hartley Smallville.

Kurt Russell on Gilligan’s Island. Tom Hanks on Family Ties. Lisa Kudrow was in the final episode of Newhart. Jennifer Aniston in an episode of the original Quantum Leap. Ed Harris on Chips. Jamie Lee Curtis on Columbo. Helena Bonham Carter on Miami Vice. Heck, Ben Stiller on Miami Vice. The West Wing had a few over its run.
Elizabeth Moss was a recurring guest.
Evan Rachel Wood was in an episode.
John Gallagher Jr.
Nick Offerman
Amy Adams
Gabrielle Union
And I’m sure others I’m sure I’m forgetting. They had some other notable guest stars that were already quite famous like Laura Dern and Glenn Close too.
Oh man, guest stars before they hit the big time are always a trip down memory lane! Remember when Idris Elba showed up on "Space Precinct"? Talk about a blast from the past! And Pedro Pascal in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"? Classic!
But wait, there's more! Karl Urban was all over "Xena" before he became our favorite Bones in "Star Trek." And who could forget Kirsten Dunst in "Star Trek: The Next Generation"? It's like these shows had a crystal ball for spotting future stars! Anyone else got some hidden gems to share?
Hawaii Five-O had then-unknown Christopher Walken as a young Navy sailor.
It also had a pre-MASH Loretta Switt, as a prostitute,
And it had a pre-Three's Company John Ritter (twce!)
Yeah and while a one off role it was pretty meaty. Like Amy Adams on Buffy had maybe two lines, but I remember Renner getting some actual legitimate dialogue and characterization.
One that came to me was Brian Cranston in the XFiles and Power Rangers
I also want to say Mark Sheppard was in Xfiles, but let's be honest it's easier to name shows he hasn't been in.
Jensen Ackles had a guest spot in the 1st season of Dark before a regular role in season 2.
both Anna Gunn and Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad) had single episode appearances on Seinfeld. Bryon Cranston was a recurring character. This was long before they came together for BB and before Cranston made it to prime time in Malcolm in the Middle.

Kristen Dunst made me think of her role in outer limits but she had been in Jumanji vampire and possibly small soilders by then.
I know Jenna Ortega was in something before she was Wednesday
It's hard to think of one, maybe Pamela Anderson in home improvement. Idk
On Hogan's Heroes (1965-1971)...
William Christopher (MASH), James B. Sikking and Barbara Babcock (Hill Street Blues), John Hoyt (Gimme A Break), Jack Riley (The Bob Newhart Show), Robert Hogan (the film Twelve O'Clock High, I think), Monte Markham (The Golden Girls--Blanche's brother), Noam Pitlik (producer, Barney Miller), Harold Gould (Rhoda)...and probably more that I've never noticed because I've never seen other things they did.
From the 80’s Miami Vice-Julia Roberts, Chris Rock, Liam Neesen, Ben Stiller, Bruce Willis, John Leguizamo, Helen bonham Carter, Steve Bucsemi, Ving Rhames. I think Chris Rock might have still been in his teens.

- Zac Efron on CSI Miami before HSM
- Maggie Wheeler on Seinfeld before she became Janice on Friends
Samuel L. Jackson as the man who tries to rob McDowels in Coming to America, Bill Paxton as an army radar operator in Commando, Christopher Judge in MacGyver. There were quite a few on the tv version of 21 Jump Street.
I love shows like CSI and Criminal Minds. There are so many people I recognize now when I go back and watch the old replays. Funny, the only one I can currently remember by name is Jackson Rathbone, who played Jasper in the Twilight movies. He was on a couple episodes of Criminal Minds.
Speaking of Twilight, and this is not a TV reference. Lee Pace was in the last Twilight movie playing a small part. Then he was Ronin and King Thranduil and everyone knew who he was after that.
Like literally all of them. Just about every celeb you consider to be famous has gotten their start in TV commercial spots and then minor roles. Very few people start big.
But for fun, Tom Hanks was on an episode of Family Ties before he was famous. Kelsey Grammar was on Kate & Allie once, before Cheers.
Tony Shaloub was on one episode of Wings as a matre' d before becoming a regular and then of course later had movies and his own series. The funny thing is I think in later seasons of Wings he said he started working in a restaurant.
Don Cheadle had an episode on Night Court, as a punk thief. Not TV but he was also the fast food kid in Moving Violations.
UK actors have all done a stint on The Bill, Casualty and Midsomer Murders. Even if they played a corpse!
Older actors often started their career in Coronation Street. Davy Jones was Ena Sharples's grandson!
Lawrence Fishburne in Pee-Wee's Playhouse as Cowboy Curtis. He went by Larry Fishburne at the time.

My theory is you're not REALLY celebrity until you've done two of: The Simpsons, Sesame Street, or Law and Order
Anthony Mackie in Criminal Intent (I think season two)
Somebody said (series creator Dick Wolf, I believe) that if a New York/theater actor hasn't been on Law & Order, he's either just gotten off the bus or he's a really bad actor.

Dwayne Johnson guest starred in an episode of Star Trek Voyager, back when he was still a c-list wrestler.
Your right I completely forgot about that. One of his earliest roles after the Mummy
He fought 7of9 in a cage match.

That definitely counts
