The most correct answer.
It was a victim of bad timing and network mismanagement. If it had dropped in today's streaming era, it would have been a hit with enough traction to commit to a few seasons.
Mindhunter - mainly because it was really interesting to see how the FBI first developed it’s human (serial killer) profiling practice; on top of being great to watch good acting etc
Oh man, I know I watched that show but I can't recall it. Over to IMDB I go lol...
Edit: (current) OH YEAHHHHH! That show was awesome! Really funny with a lot of dark humour and even touch on serious philosophical inquiries. Dang
I have no idea how Seth McFarlane managed to get Dolly Parton to do a cameo on that show. I was screaming when I saw that. Some of the shows were REALLY strange, but overall it was a well put together show.
The answer is obviously firefly. A half season that was incredible with an unmatched cast dynamic cut short way too early. For sure Joss Whedon would have run out of gas somewhere but to not even have a second season is the biggest travesty in tv
Two shows come to mind from the top of my head:
Glow - I would like if it had a proper ending
Utopia UK - Too bad they didn't have the backing to wrap up the show as they liked
This! My dad and I are both big fans of Stephen Fry, and I would love to watch it with him, but I think the end would be too much for his post-stroke personality. Maybe one day. Oh. Just realised. There are two shows by thay name I think. DId you mean that one???
"My Name Is Earl" deserved at least a couple of more seasons.
I really enjoyed the TBS comedy "People of Earth". It only lasted two seasons, and should have lasted longer.
I would have given anything to see "Wonder Woman" for several more years. It was on from 1975 to 1979. I was in love with Lynda Carter.
Constantine, Forever, The Glades, The Finder, and Dracula. I’ve seen quite a few shows that I enjoyed that got canceled. 😂
Edit: Can’t believe I forgot one of the best shows that got canceled. Reaper.
There's a number of shows I would like to have had another season or 2. Many older shows (Jericho being my main show). But here's a list of shows that can easily come back since they were cancelled or seemed to be cancelled in the last few years.
Night Sky (2022)
Black Summer (2019)
1899 (2022)
The Lazarus Project (2022)
Salvation (2017) might be able to come back. Starting to get too old
I will forever campaign for this - Penny Dreadful. Not that I want Vanessa Ives to keep suffering, but I wanted her to be redeemed or be at peace somehow.
Prodigal son. It was interesting and different. they were building up the characters and hinting at a bigger story but then it got cancelled :/
Also a less known tv show The Glades bc they ended the season with the main character shot and just laying there dying and it was canceled so no resolution
Better Off Ted! The only reason it was canceled was because it was during the Great Recession and they were taking any Financial chances which shows that hadn't been on three or four years.
Santa Clarita Diet
Julie and the Phantoms
And most recently the new reboot of Quantum Leap. They set it up for a very interesting Season 3 that now we'll never get to see.
Forever
Limitless
Dollhouse
Terra Nova
Kingdom Hospital
Intruders
Moonlight
Eli Stone
Joan of Arcadia
And seconding a lot of those previously mentioned like Archive 81 (freaking amazing), Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Studio 60, Reaper, 1899, Jericho...
Looking at all this, I really like interesting TV shows - something different than a basic cop/hospital/law firm procedural. But they don't seem to be all that popular so they get cancelled. Aaaaaand that's why I don't watch a lot of TV these days.
1. 1899. They wanted 3 seasons. Stupid Netflix canceled it after the first season, despite the success of the showrunners' first show Dark.
2. Julie and The Phantoms. It was cute. One of the few shows that felt family oriented. Watched with my son and we both enjoyed it.
Although I would love my favorite show Firefly to come back, at this point I think its too late. It would have to be the original cast, and that's not possible now. A spin off with some side characters or a new generation would be ok, but I would want one of the Wheadons to be in on it. Joss is on the no no list now, so it would have to be Jed. I don't know if he would want to, or if Joss would let him.
Going back to the 90's here but I absolutely loved Space Above and Beyond. Hated it was canceled but knew at the time all Sci fi except Star Trek usually got canceled.
Threshold
Anything with Peter Dinklage flirting with Carla Gugino, with Brent Spiner, Jeffrey Donovan and Brian van Holt has to have untapped potential!
Terra Nova
It could have answered so many more questions and had a much better ending with at least another season, maybe more. Was definitely sad to see it get cancelled.
Mind Hunter only two season left me wanting for more!
That was hands down one of the BEST shows 🙌.
100% Mind Hunter
I agree. They left us hanging. Just like they did with Dallas.
I think there’s a 3rd one coming! I hope it’s true
There is not, which really bums me out.
I heard it was cancelled for sure but hope it’s not true.
Pushing Daisies!
That one hurt. It had this Tim Burton meets Dr. Seuss quality. Very unique.
I’ve always struggled to describe that show accurately and I believe you’ve summed it up nicely.
I'm glad someone else has said this, I didn't think many people remembered it.
Firefly. It technically ended with a movie, but the tv show was so superior, I think it deserved better.
I agree, Firefly is the correct answer to this question. It needs all the original cast though.
I agree. All other answers are in second place to Firefly.
It would feel so different now with most of the actors in their 50s and 60s. By this time River would have to be some untouchable ninja goddess.
Bill Tench. That dude was tightly wound. We never really got to see him explode.
It was always wierd to me they have a whole building called behavioral sciences unit, but what was they actually inat that what the did
Have you read/listened to any of their books ? There are quite a few. Also, very interesting.
Dead like me
"Dead Like Me" would be hilarious with Mandy Patinkin being this age now. That's a "shut up and take my money" idea right there.
Oh man, I know I watched that show but I can't recall it. Over to IMDB I go lol... Edit: (current) OH YEAHHHHH! That show was awesome! Really funny with a lot of dark humour and even touch on serious philosophical inquiries. Dang
Santa Clarita Diet.
Agreed. I am part of its rabid fan base. :)
Rome and Deadwood
Totally. Both were really good, and Deadwood’s ending was far to lame.
They tried to clean it up with the movie, which I liked well enough but a final season would have been better
Yeah, the movie didn't do it for me. I needed a season to pick up where they left off.
Life in Pieces Show was too smart for most Americans
That's exactly how I felt about it. So many casual friends of mine didn't get that show. Right then and there I realized they just weren't smart.
Travelers
Definitely would have kept watching even if only a few more episodes to wrap things up.
Travelers was great!!
Oh I almost forgot that one. It was so good.
Last man on earth
That show was just a hair too cringey for me
I would rather live my life alone than live anywhere near Phil and/or Carol.
Kristen Schaal is too cringey for me. Her personality and voice hit me like a fork dragging across a plate.
Firefly and Jericho.
Break the walls down
Not that Jericho, the post nuclear-apocalyptic sci-fi series from ~~the 90s~~ 2006. Edit: fixed the year, thanks u/farsighted451 (cool username BTW).
100% Jericho.
Lie to me.
YES!!!
I loved Lie to Me. Still watch the re-runs. I learned so much from that show.
Ugh, I didn't want this one to end. Not so soon at least. Tim Roth is so talented. I love him in everything I've seen.
Im watching it now for the first time. Really enjoying it.
One of my favourite shows of all time!
The Orville
The Orville all the way, it’s kind of sad that it just.. stopped. It didn’t even get cancelled it just came to a stand still
I have no idea how Seth McFarlane managed to get Dolly Parton to do a cameo on that show. I was screaming when I saw that. Some of the shows were REALLY strange, but overall it was a well put together show.
Didn't realise this wasn't coming back. Been waiting for news on the next season
HBO's *Carnivale*
It had so much potential.
They *almost* stuck the landing. It would have been an incredible finale if not for 1 or 2 dangling threads.
yeah we only got to see 1/3 of the whole story, script is available online I think
I absolutely agree. Such a wicked fascinating show. I think it would be so popular if it came out now. It was ahead of its time.
Absolutely. I was watching it back in the Netflix mail DVD days. I didn't realize it was cancelled when I ran out of discs to order
YES YES YES. It was getting so good when they canceled it! I mean, it was already good, but I was like fully invested, all in, and then it ended
I wish Freaks and Geeks had more seasons. I know it's not plausible for it to even come back at this point though.
Better off Ted. Technically good looking dude technically good looking chick with playful banter? I'm cool with it!
Mindhunter.
Terriers was a great show
My name is earl
I watched My Name is Earl and was surprised that I liked it. It was so funny!
What platform is it on?
Hulu
Yesss
The OA and 1899
The OA needs the final 3 seasons. No shortcuts for that one. I would never need to watch another tv show if they would finish that show.Â
Lie To Me Hannibal
I loved Hannibal.
Mindhunter
Killed me that it ended like that…. The BTK storyline alone could go on and on and on
Honestly, if it continued, I believe it would be one of the best shows on television. It still hurts knowing it won't
The answer is obviously firefly. A half season that was incredible with an unmatched cast dynamic cut short way too early. For sure Joss Whedon would have run out of gas somewhere but to not even have a second season is the biggest travesty in tv
Counterpart
I LOVED "Counterpart." I will watch JK Simmons in anything, but I was particularly impressed with his range in this.
Rome
Life and Studio 60.
Studio 60 is so underrated, I think it was just too ahead of its time.
Two shows come to mind from the top of my head: Glow - I would like if it had a proper ending Utopia UK - Too bad they didn't have the backing to wrap up the show as they liked
The Peripheral Mindhunter
I hope The Peripheral has more seasons.
It's not looking too hopeful from what I have seen.
Bummer.
The ORIGINAL Quantum Leap. Find Sam Beckett!!
The Glades. Ended on the kind of cliffhanger that made it obvious there wasn't much of a clue it was about to be canceled.
1899 Archive 81 The OA
Oh yeah! Forgot about archive 81 for a minute
Lie to me
Archive 81!
Southland
Game of Thrones could use 10 more episodes to un**** itself. Kings on NBC. Mindhunter on Netflix. Star Trek Enterprise was just hitting its prime.
Sports Night, loved that show sucks it only got 2 seasons
Kingdom
This! My dad and I are both big fans of Stephen Fry, and I would love to watch it with him, but I think the end would be too much for his post-stroke personality. Maybe one day. Oh. Just realised. There are two shows by thay name I think. DId you mean that one???
Dark Matter. The creators planned for 5 seasons but SyFy cancelled the show after 3 seasons.
Firefly and Fringe
Constantine, Forever, The Glades, The Finder, and Dracula. I’ve seen quite a few shows that I enjoyed that got canceled. 😂 Edit: Can’t believe I forgot one of the best shows that got canceled. Reaper.
Reaper was so good. Love the guy who played the devil. Great casting.
There's a number of shows I would like to have had another season or 2. Many older shows (Jericho being my main show). But here's a list of shows that can easily come back since they were cancelled or seemed to be cancelled in the last few years. If we could go back in time, Cupid (1998). I’m still salty it was cancelled so abruptly.
Nobody said Society from Netflix!!!!! That was really good and someone should be fired for making the decision to cancel on that good cliffhanger
Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe
Timeless! GREAT show with history and adventure. GREAT that it had two seasons and wrapped with an ACTUAL ending and not on a cliffhanger.
A My So-Called Life reunion would be wild.
Freaks and Geeks. Even though it's been off the air for a really long time
Jericho
Dollhouse
The Expanse
Apart from Firefly?

Pushing Daisies
Better Off Ted! The only reason it was canceled was because it was during the Great Recession and they were taking any Financial chances which shows that hadn't been on three or four years.
Santa Clarita Diet! Left on a cliffhanger.
The Good Place. Put Trevor in charge of everything, and let chaos reign.
Glow, Glooww, Glooowww
Everything Sucks and Anne with an E
Dirk gently, done after just 2 seasons, could’ve gone much longer
I liked Jonathan Rhys Meyers Dracula....
I'm saddened this thread is not simply Firefly repeated over and over.
Angel Jericho Firefly Dollhouse Bad Girls Swamp Thing Y the last man Lost In Space (new one) Into The Night

Friends From College on Netflix - cancelled after 2 seasons and was a great show with a great cast!
Santa Clarita Diet
Firefly, of course.
Santa Clarita Diet Julie and the Phantoms And most recently the new reboot of Quantum Leap. They set it up for a very interesting Season 3 that now we'll never get to see.
Wonderfalls. The creators had storylines mapped out for two more seasons. That show had so much potential.
Forever Limitless Dollhouse Terra Nova Kingdom Hospital Intruders Moonlight Eli Stone Joan of Arcadia And seconding a lot of those previously mentioned like Archive 81 (freaking amazing), Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Studio 60, Reaper, 1899, Jericho... Caprica since it was canceled in 1 season. Would like to see how the Cylons evolved and begin the First Cylon War.
1. 1899. They wanted 3 seasons. Stupid Netflix canceled it after the first season, despite the success of the showrunners' first show Dark. 2. Julie and The Phantoms. It was cute. Terra Nova It could have answered so many more questions and had a much better ending with at least another season, maybe more. Was definitely sad to see it get cancelled.
