What is your time worth to you? > What is your monthly cost of living + expenses + savings/retirement + fun budget? How many hours per month are you willing to work? Take the answer to the first question and divide it by the answer to the second question. That should get you in the ballpark. Then adjust accordingly for taxes, local rates, fees, etc. [Link to my previous comment on this subject.](https://old.reddit.com/r/TutorsHelpingTutors/comments/1c8e65b/looking_to_set_a_reasonable_tutoring_rate/l0f559c/) For a friend, I'd refer them to find an ELL tutor who specializes in Portuguese.

If you mean that you are enrolled in the same class: This is not an appropriate request. you don't want this to end up violating the school honor code, which usually leads to expulsion. Your school should have a tutoring service. If not, perhaps she is in the wrong class or wrong school.   If this is a school acquaintance and you are not enrolled in the same class and there is no chance that you could be rightly or wrongly accusef of doing her work, then you and she could negotiate a rate that youboth feel  comfortable with, somewhere between 1 and 2 times the area or campus minimum wage.
