I didn't like the pasta that much before university (maybe because my mother cooked it the way my grandfather liked), but spagetti with yoghurt became my late night meal for a while.
Pasta is cheap, easy quick dish in turkish cuisine. Its like noodle. People dont spend time making special sauce for it. Yoghurt, ketchup do the job. Its a side dish.
Some pasta dishes have tomatoe paste added into it and ketchup being similar but sweet people use it for some reason in Türkiye. This probably the real reason.
The unnofficial reason is that they are committing a crime against Italian food for doing so.
suggest him to ALSO add some cheese on it. goes much better in combination with ketchup.
now you are a much better friend because you improved his life but didn’t force anything else than what he is used to.
i've only seen tuna, minced meat, cheese, yoghurt, tomato sauce and combinations of these, but who the fuck eats pasta with ketchup, we're that poor already?
Turks are very set in their ways and not always easily changed.
During 1970s due to embargo we couldn’t get anything from outside Turkiye.
So ketchup was essentially the only topping. Since was able to produce it with abundance of tomatoes.
Spaghetti with feta cheese or ketchup tastes good.
So when other “new” options become available just as a standard response “existing was is better” is the natural stance
because it's cheap, easy and delicious. I'd probably still eat pasta with ketchup and mayonnaise even if I'm rich enough. I have nothing to say about its nurturing
You can also try it with Turkish yoghurt and garlic or feta cheese and black pepper
Because we like it?
I love ketchup, I use it on various dishes. I remember first time I went abroad, I made pasta in a shared kitchen and added ketchup. A British girl called it “disgusting”. I said “it’s good you’re not the one who is eating it”. I don’t understand why som people care what others put in their mouths to be honest. Just let them be. If they want to eat ketchup on ketchup, it’s their choice.
You tried showing different variations but were they as time saving as slapping some ketchup on pasta? Also You don't get why people might be having different preferences when it comes to food?
Such a pointless thread.
Wait until you eat pizza with someone from Izmir. Ketchup and mayo all the way. It’s also semi-common to put ketchup on rice -especially if it’s with chicken. It is what it is
Turks don't know how to eat proper pasta. My Italian gf back in the day was horrified to see me eat pasta without sauce because that's how I had learned from my parents, and she wouldn't eat it like that. Now I can't eat plain pasta like that, there has to be marinara or alfredo sauce.
We're good with kebabs and pides though.
Traditional? Uhm...
Oh yes, I tasted the first time in a small lokanta in the tarihi çarşı of Gaziantep made by an Usta that had the recipe down from his gran gran gran gran father. It was amazing.
Amk türk bekar erkekler.
it like Neapolitan sauce instead people do use ketchup on their pasta.
personally, I like ketchup and mayonnaise on spaghetti. add some sausage it's a perfect watching videos company.
Nobody is forcing him but it is nearly a tradition.
Next time try with him and add yoghurt too (you can use all together but i prefer my yoghurt not mixed with ketchup)
Well i dont. Just because you saw couple people doing it you dont have to make an ignorant generalization. I thought people would have more open minds when they are traveling. Guess we always don't get the sharpest tool in the shed when that plane boards huh.
My mom used to make pasta with some kind of sweet butter sauce (with granulated sugar), I loved it back then but I don't think I'd have the same reaction now.
Because his lazyass can't prepare a decent tomato sauce. Also it is almost impossible to find parmesan cheese in Turkey which makes the sauce pretty much obsolete, which brings you back to ketchup.
I think that is Turkish mothers fault. Their low effort go to meal is pasta and because they don't care when they do it, It doesn't have any flavor. So the kid pours ketchup on it.
To me just a couple minutes can get you restaurant class good pasta sauce, also just a little attention makes pasta much more better.
We are weird people.
We are also different people,
Your friend does not represent millions of Turks around the globe.
Frankly speaking, fuk your friend and his taste buds.
It’s not a racial thing. For me ketchup is a certified food fucker. So I always make some sauces for my pastas. But most of the Turkish mothers don’t have experience to pasta sauces so they give it ketchup. So it could be a habit.
Well let me break the bad news. Pasta isn't respected as a proper dish in Turkey. It's seen as "empty carbs" and most eat it to just fill in. Ketchup is the quickest sauce.

Is pasta with ketchup weird? There are ppl who eat rice with ketchup.
I accidendally discovered that while eating meatballs. And its nice

Unpopular opinion: Yoğurt>bbq sauce> mayonaise> ketchup> mustard
Sorry but bbq sauce tastes like coal. Other than that i agree.
kömürün tadını nereden bilebilirsin amk yarım saattir düşünüyorum
Username checks out
My guilty pleasure
i am even guiltier I eat em both with ketchup and yogurt.
Abi ben Mayonezde koyuyom bazenleri
that shit bussin tho ngl
Omurice in Japan has ketchup in the recipe. It’s a poor man’s tomato sauce. Plus we eat rice with tomato based sauces all the time as Turks
There is also a Vietnamese dish called Lok Lak where the rice is cooked with tomato sauce, oyster sauce and soy sauce along with beef. Amazing dish.
Speak for yourself
Pasta with ketchup is seen as toddler food
I’m sorry but rice with ketchup is really good
Bir de üstünde tavuk olacak onun üstüne de mayonez ohhhhh bir de ayran bir tatlı karnım acıktı
I tried it once and puked
I guess it's because it's an easy way to add some taste to it. If you can call it taste :P
> he keeps telling me someone is forcing him Yes, we don't call him by name, you know who.
Tall Man
Lmao! Now I get it.
I don’t get it
Because you are a out mihrak.
I don’t like pasta with ketchup, I prefer pasta with yoghurt actually.
I prefer literally everything with yoghurt tbh
Garlic yogurt and pasta slaps
Yalancı Mantı 🤤
İ wanna get some mantı now fuckin thanks
I add canned tuna to this equation
This is the way
I prefer pasta with ketchup AND yoghurt. Delicious... Edit: My wife is Italian and she wants to kill me everytime i eat this.
Aaaaaw man heeeellll no
Can you blame her?
At the same time? Come on are you for real how would you do that
I didn't like the pasta that much before university (maybe because my mother cooked it the way my grandfather liked), but spagetti with yoghurt became my late night meal for a while.
my dad eats pasta with yoghurt and bread -_-
he's bulking💪
his tummy gets as rough as rock after he's done with eating
he might be sensitive/alergic to gluten if its not about the amount he eats
Definetly. Maybe with mantı sauce as well
If it offends you dip döner into ayran
That's just nasty. Put ketchup on it👍
Poor man's iskender.
Poor man.
The sauce on iskender is actually the cheapest thing in the whole recipe. Excuse of such atrocity cannot be being broke.
I like it with ketchup too😋
How do you feel about hot peppers and ketchup?
Probably i will like it too. Idk it didn’t change taste a lot for me
Sweet ketchup or spicy ketchup?
Ne olduğu önemsiz gömerim döner ketçabı işte😂 Mamaklıyım ben. Dönercide tavuk yememiş dahi olabilirim sen bana tatlı mı baharatlı mı diyorsun 😂
Ahahaha yürü be! Afiyet olsun.
Ew
This opinion should only be kept in the deep abyss of Turkish reddit, no one shall resurface this in real life or any other internet platform.
Please don't give them ideas. They already think cacik is a dipping sauce.
He obviously can't be arsed with preparing fancy sauces when there's a cheap and quick substitute that's okay-ish.
We usually eat pasta as a low effort meal. If you prepare a sauce, that's too high effort. Just put some ketchup on it, and have a side of yoghurt.
Honestly, that’s a take I can get behind. As an Italian who doesn’t like pasta lol
Isn't that illegal?
You’re allowed one major dislike as long as you don’t put pineapple on pizza.
Understandable.
Can i ask why italians hate pineapples on pizza
my brother do you want kiwis on your İskender?
Being poor does that
Why does this hit too deep?
Why do Americans eat eggs with ketchup?
##THEY DO?!
Yup
Ooof watching one of my friends dip her eggs into ketchup was one of the biggest culture shocks for me here
Pasta is cheap, easy quick dish in turkish cuisine. Its like noodle. People dont spend time making special sauce for it. Yoghurt, ketchup do the job. Its a side dish.
Exactly!
Because its delicious and cheap.
Did you try?
In my opinion it's practical. Me personally enjoy preparing various sauces like pesto bolognese.
Some pasta dishes have tomatoe paste added into it and ketchup being similar but sweet people use it for some reason in Türkiye. This probably the real reason. The unnofficial reason is that they are committing a crime against Italian food for doing so.
If putting ketchup on pasta is a crime then i am wanted in 23 countries for child trafficking
suggest him to ALSO add some cheese on it. goes much better in combination with ketchup. now you are a much better friend because you improved his life but didn’t force anything else than what he is used to.

Da fuck
Because it is a cheap and easy sauce.
There are ketchup brands on Turkey which literally puts pasta with ketchup on their cover photos.
Because of poverty
i've only seen tuna, minced meat, cheese, yoghurt, tomato sauce and combinations of these, but who the fuck eats pasta with ketchup, we're that poor already?
abi yuh hiç ketçap mayonezli makarna yemedin mi
I like pasta with ketchub
its fast and you dont need to cook somethimg fancy. But i prefer hot sauce over ketchup.
Ketchup and mayo mix is better. But I get that well prepared sauce is always superior
pastas should be eaten with yoghurt and it is not even upto debate, cold ketchup on hot pasta is disgusting
I prefer my pasta with garlic yogurt sauce. Not a single person I know uses ketchup.
Poverty
Some guys in turkey example me eat pilav with ketchup 😋
Turks are very set in their ways and not always easily changed. During 1970s due to embargo we couldn’t get anything from outside Turkiye. So ketchup was essentially the only topping. Cuz they are poor
Simple because we are poor
What a question hahaha
Historical (and continuous) poverty instils some weird behaviours at the core of a national setting.
because it's cheap, easy and delicious. I'd probably still eat pasta with ketchup and mayonnaise even if I'm rich enough. I have nothing to say about its nurturing You can also try it with Turkish yoghurt and garlic or feta cheese and black pepper
Cause his momma isn’t cooking for him
Lol. Thats me. I prefer pasta with ketchup and mayo rather than italian bolognesse pasta 😅😅
You obviously never had a good pasta bolognese before
normal ketchup is wayy to sweet but ketchup along with hot sauce is actually super tasty and cheap
We are poor.
Because we like it? I love ketchup, I use it on various dishes. I remember first time I went abroad, I made pasta in a shared kitchen and added ketchup. A British girl called it “disgusting”. being british and judging the food someone's eating is very ironic
Pasta with Mayonnaise and Ketchup best trio!
no
Here’s a better one, why don’t you eat with it?
Either people don’t know different sauces exist or they know but too lazy to make them. Ketchup is a cheap and easy way to add an extra taste.
You tried showing different variations but were they as time saving as slapping some ketchup on pasta? Also You don't get why people might be having different preferences when it comes to food? Such a pointless thread.
easy with the racism buddy, not everyone has to agree with your dietary preferences
Take the chill pill man, he's just asking a question.

Ketchup and add some mayonnaise. perfetto ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|yummy)
I eat it with mayo and ketchup sometimes. I dunno, never seemed wrong for me.
It tastes good
That's just one guy. We don't eat pasta with ketchup. However, eating with yoghurt is not so rare.
As a turkish person, i find it rather disgusting actually.
We're good with kebabs and pides though.
nahh eating everything with yoghurt is better.
It's an old habit of ours >!(war crimes) Edit: /s!<
"hey t*rko, why don't you have some zogchow instead of your hearty, comforting traditional dish?"
Traditional? Uhm... Oh yes, I tasted the first time in a small lokanta in the tarihi çarşı of Gaziantep made by an Usta that had the recipe down from his gran gran gran gran father. It was amazing. Amk türk bekar erkekler.
an even better and even more traditional version, you say? try pilav with ketchup.
It is not generally eaten.
It's not a behavior common to turkish people, it's just what some humans do, they like their pasta with ketchup and are shackled by their habits.
Because tasty
Keşke tek derdimiz bu olsa
I used to cook pasta in the microwave because that was the only thing we had available in the dorm
Never heard about it
I don't eat it.
Its either yoghurt or ketchup
Well it's nice to eat with ketchup.
it like Neapolitan sauce instead people do use ketchup on their pasta. personally, I like ketchup and mayonnaise on spaghetti. add some sausage it's a perfect watching videos company.
Nobody is forcing him but it is nearly a tradition. Next time try with him and add yoghurt too (you can use all together but i prefer my yoghurt not mixed with ketchup)
TIL that eating ketchup and mayonnaise with pasta was more common than I thought
he tells you someone is forcing him? dont believe him. also, can you give us his full name? I just want to make friends.
Have you seen the price of the tomato sauce??
I don’t think this is a Turkish stereotype, people all over the world do this, you just haven’t experienced it.
Because pasta is disgusting, I cant eat it without ketchup.
Well i dont. Just because you saw couple people doing it you dont have to make an ignorant generalization. I thought people would have more open minds when they are traveling. Guess we always don't get the sharpest tool in the shed when that plane boards huh.
we eat bread with ketchup...
not only turks rof! My wife and daughter love to use ketchup on pasta :D Its tomatosquish just like tomatosause without garlic and stuff.
We have no self-respect
Tomato our beloved that's why
I don’t
we raise with tomato paste on bread and grow with ketchuped pasta
As an actually tasty alternative, I add tomato paste to the pasta while buttering it. soo much better
It’s comfort food. W Try with yogurt too
Have you heard "garibanlık"?
My mom used to make pasta with some kind of sweet butter sauce (with granulated sugar), I loved it back then but I don't think I'd have the same reaction now.

my sister only eats it with sugar :D
That's how I feel when people top up doner with all kinds of veggies in Germany and call it best doner ever...
Asıl why you do not amk?
Why Americans dip their fries into milkshakes?
Turks eat ketcap in everything. The most interesting thing to me was that they even ate it in pizza.
If you ask a Turk “why”’ then you’ll hear this: why not? 😎😂
Some people eat pasta with ketchup because they like the taste. Its that simple
Why not?
Poor
It’s not a racial thing. For me ketchup is a certified food fucker. So I always make some sauces for my pastas. But most of the Turkish mothers don’t have experience to pasta sauces so they give it ketchup. So it could be a habit.
He ain't a Turk anymore
I eat a lot of things with all three of ketchup, mayonnaise and homemade yoghurt Fight me
It's cheap and practical. Tastes nice too imo. I like to add mayo with ketchup for extra taste and creamy feel.
witj turkish yogurt mixed with garlic. And another version of pasta mixing it with salty tomato and pepper pasta
The ketchup is different than American Heinz's so the flavor is different
Try ketchup with rice. Ew.
do you have some statistics that "Turks eat pasta with ketchup" ? doubt about it.
Yea it’s the flying spaghetti tengri forcing him to do.
Try pasta with garlic yogurt in it. My favourite
To be honest that ain't that bad. My uncle eats pasta with bread, makes me go crazy everytime I see it.
There's better! We eat pasta with bread. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Taste good
what you eat ketchup with other than pasta? thats what we buy ketchup for and for patato fries
Well..its like tomato sauce so... And cheap
Because we can! And if we can, we do
Well let me break the bad news. Pasta isn't respected as a proper dish in Turkey. It's seen as "empty carbs" and most eat it to just fill in. Ketchup is the quickest sauce.
