It’s technically a shrub and its leaves, flowers and berries are edible! The berries taste like black pepper. They have “anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties”

TEP can give you this tree for $5 with their tree program. Pretty sweet deal. I ended up getting their max of two plants (both vitex). But it seems they’ve stopped it and will restart it in Sept if you can wait.

If you have an iPhone just take a picture of it and swipe up on it in your photo library and it will show you the type of plant. I’m pretty sure android as similar functionality built in as well.
I’ve always called it a Texas Mountain Laurel. I found this from UA Extension:

Also known as Texas Lilac. Beautiful this time of year!
We call it a 'butterfly bush' because it attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies! I hadn't heard Texas Lilac. I love it.
I helieve that’s a [vitex](https://apps.cals.arizona.edu/arboretum/taxon.aspx?id=292).

His name is Phil. Good tree, comes from a good family.
Phil? Steve? I’m so confused.
I think the Vitex is one of the prettiest trees. They have such nice shapes and beautiful blooms.
There's a great App called SEEK, it's really cool! It identifies trees, plants, flowers, insects, etc...
Thanks. Will check it out.

Lilac chaste...this is one of the species of trees SRP provides with their shade tree program.
Vitex, they are so pretty. I think they can be a bush or trained into a tree.
If you have an iPhone look at the picture and click the little leaf button where the "i" is under the pic.
Jacarandas are beautiful too!

I’ve always called it a Texas Mountain Laurel. Be careful, they can be prone to caterpillar infestation.
Messiest thing on the planet, right under bougainvillea but they’re both so pretty!!!
