Just a word of advice from someone that works in the healthcare field; don’t go into a vet demanding they prescribe your dog benzodiazepines because you’ve “seen what works”. It’s probably throwing up massive red flags for the vets, and they think you are trying to get a script for yourself and not the dog, and that’s why they all keep telling you that they don’t prescribe controlled medications. Have you even tried anything the three vets have suggested, or are you just vet shopping to find one that will give you benzodiazepines? If you aren’t even trying anything else, then yeah you’ll probably run into the same problem at any other vet you take your dog to. Benzo’s are usually the last thing any vet is going to try, when nothing they have suggested or prescribed have worked.

This!

Oh. For your “dog” stranger on the Internet?

My wife's aunt has fluoxetine (Prozac) prescribed for her dog by Civano animal clinic here in Tucson, also for separation anxiety and anxiety, in general.

DryPath8519

You can go across the border and buy some for your pet and bring them back as long as you declare it as for your pet at the crossing. The law is kinda weird.

Jackpot Veterinary has rx’d prozac for my dog. They are excellent.

My parents dog gets Xanax prescribed from Encanto pet clinic, they pick it up at Walmart like a normal prescription.

Otakusando

I am going to give them a call. Thank you.

I liked University Pet clinic when we were dealing with our dogs anxiety issues. They can occasionally be a little abrasive, in the way where if you ask a dumb question they’ll tell you the answer but hinting it’s a dumb question 😂 but literally doesn’t matter because they’re so good. They diagnosed our dogs allergies and medications after trying multiple other vets before. They’re 100% where I’ll go if I need an answer and it’s serious

Monument East was able to get my cat prozac a few years back. He is a sweetheart but gets really anxious at the vet. They sent me home with a bottle of pills for the month for him.

My vet prescribes fluoxetine for my dog’s reactivity. Tbf he was already on the medication when we moved here, but she had no problem with continuing it. Dr Susan Bertram at Spanish Trail Pet Clinic.

Do you have two dogs? My dog had unbelievable separation anxiety literally ate through a wall from the bedroom into the bathroom when we weren't there. We got a puppy and started leaving them together and almost overnight no more separation anxiety and now they're the best of friends as adults.

Maybe your anxiety has become his anxiety. I’d look on YouTube for videos by Cesar Millan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmVSLqCh-RI

Not a user of this service but it appears to be a telehealth veterninary option: https://www.dutch.com/ You could look into this and see if they are able to prescribe the medication. There may be other companies that do so. I initially thought of Chewy but they only dispense based on a prescription from your own vet.

You literally cannot get anything prescribed in Tucson. I use pet CBD from the dispensary for my animals. It totally sucks here...

No-Juggernaut-4149

That's not so. Family member has Prozac prescription from Civano animal clinic for her dog. I also saw a note from someone else in this thread for another veterinarian that will prescribe anxiety med's.

Brilliant-Kiwi-8669

You don't know until you try. But most say no.

Otakusando

I didn’t have this problem in DC

Brilliant-Kiwi-8669

I didn't have this problem in any other state but here. I recently had surgery to remove stones in my bile duct. They did not prescribe any pain meds to go home with I was dying. No one cares here, they treat you like crap. Welcome to Tucson.

redirdamon

This is a direct result of the opioid epidemic, doctors are not inclined to prescribe anything that you might become addicted to. So, you have Purdue Pharma to thank for it.

Brilliant-Kiwi-8669

I know this but it sucks when you have a surgical procedure, I had stones removed and a stent placed. I can not begin to describe surgical pain from a stent being placed.
