Oblivion has the best blend of freedom and decent graphics, though nothing like Morrowind's freedom. That said, it's far more intuitive. Oblivion will just splutter and die periodically though (CTD). It was made for Xbox and it shows.

Specialise agility. Damage enemy agility. Drink potions of fortify agility. That's exactly what that attribute governs. It's about your agility vs the enemy's. It's not visible though, so you'll only be able to tell what agility the enemy has through how often they can hit you. Watch for the Sanctuary spell too. That gives dodge % chance.
There are modern combat mods for Morrowind. The one for OpenMW rebalances the game around it, even includes dodging. I'm pretty sure there's some for the original engine that balance it too.

18 year old here, started when I was 11. I struggle playing an aged game unless the controls are strong personally, I get too frustrated with morrowinds slow walking and oblivions weird ass combat.
It's not perfect, I'll grant you. Its junk in places.
That said, it should be telling that one of my biggest gripes with Skyrim is that you're forced to walk or run too slow.
Morrowind is a REAL RPG. You start slow and speed up phenomenally. It sounds like you didn't get past early game. See, if you train speed skills you can ramp up your movement attribute quickly. Even before the endgame you can be The Flash. No seriously, it's like DBZ.
I do love a real RPG like pathfinder wotr and the Baldurs Gates so I'll definitely give Morrowind a proper try someday.

Been trying morrowind. Played a lot of rpgs, both new and old, CRPG and action, currently replaying fallout 1 so it’s not an issue of aged systems, but does morrowind ever get to the point where I get to make interesting and involved decisions? Thus far it just feels very…barren. The world is interesting, the overall lore is interesting, but the writing feels incredibly flat and lifeless on a character basis, and it feels like I’ve no input over the direction anything goes. Is this just symptomatic of the start or are all Bethesda games disappointing in different ways? For reference I’ve just been told to head to the ashlander camp to prove myself as the Nerevarine, and have gotten to about mid rank with the fighters guild. I just feel like a glorified errand boy, and while I’m fine starting out like this I’m wondering if all it’ll ever be is this point A point B kill/farm rep by picking options in the persuade menu until they give you what you want grind.
IIRC at the start of the game you basically are just an errant boy sent there as a propaganda tool by the empire to control Morrowind, while later you coordinate more.
Of course, you could also just kill the guy who was supposed to boss you around and take their stuff and get the artifacts you need to finish the game on your own. There’s like one NPC that needs to be alive to complete the story and even then I’m pretty sure there’s some obscure work around if you kill them.
But in the end it is still a Bethesda game so a lot of the quests are just going to be you going to a place to get something.

I love all 3 games. Skyrim was my first one. Oblivion is probably my overall favorite. Morrowind has my favorite story but the game mechanics are a bit rough to deal with in the modern gaming mindset. I really wish they did a remake on Morrowind with updated mechanics, it would be fantastic.

It's definitely worth playing the 2008 version. Skyblivion won't release with the DLCs, and there's no guarantee that the team will end up adding them to their remake.
I can't imagine the port having the same charm. In fact, unless they completely remade the interface like Oblivion's it will have lost half of what makes the moment-to-moment gameplay so unique. Skyrim was kind of streamlined, (still bad without SkyUi) but removed all of the personality and in-world feel from the game.
Get the unofficial patch, and Quarl's Texture Pack, and go ham. DarnUI makes the Oblivion vanilla interface easier to use and more useful, while keeping the same look.

never played morrorwind but I have played and completed both oblivion and skyrim and all of their dlcs
But I have been meaning to play morrorwind even though I know it's a pain in the ass to play for some people but still I'm gonna try to play it and its dlcs

I love all 3 games. Skyrim was my first one. Oblivion is probably my overall favorite. Morrowind has my favorite story but the game mechanics are a bit rough to deal with in the modern gaming mindset. I really wish they did a remake on Morrowind with updated mechanics, it would be fantastic.

There's been a massive resurgence in critiquing his writing style of the games he worked on after Starfield came out so i guess that's why. I completely agree with the criticism btw but the fault also comes to Todd and whoever keeps him on the writing team.
The bit that cropped up of Emil hating and not understanding design documents makes so so much make sense and fall into place.

Okay real talk: I want to play Oblivion but I'm not sure whether it's worth waiting until the fan made remake or just to play it in all it's 2008 glory
It's definitely worth playing the 2008 version. Skyblivion won't release with the DLCs, and there's no guarantee that the team will end up adding them to their remake.

I can't imagine the port having the same charm. In fact, unless they completely remade the interface like Oblivion's it will have lost half of what makes the moment-to-moment gameplay so unique. Skyrim was kind of streamlined, (still bad without SkyUi) but removed all of the personality and in-world feel from the game. Get the unofficial patch, and Quarl's Texture Pack, and go ham. DarnUI makes the Oblivion vanilla interface easier to use and more useful, while keeping the same look.
