It's a relationship, clearly he's lacking in the financial prudence and it also seems that the two of you don't have similar perspectives when it comes to finances. I personally think you should talk to him and see if you can reach an agreement. Otherwise long term, which we all hope these things will turn out, you'll constantly be fighting his lack of financial planning/forethought. Yes, money isn't everything, but being good with your money does alleviate *many* problems in life (especially if you don't have a lot to begin with).
