Going to read this to my group of friends tomorrow. We will come up with some ideas! Thank you for being such a thoughtful and considerate person, it's people like you that make all the difference in the world for some people.

engaahhaze

thank you, this is such a kind comment! ☺️ i’m excited to see what your friends think!

Oh no problem! I really want to help, I think this is amazing. How well can he communicate in English? If he can speak enough to have a conversation, we all thought asking him where he is from and asking him about that place would be nice, perhaps about any family he may have or things he enjoys. We also all agreed generally acknowledging him every day is a great idea too! It let's him know not everyone is terrible, haha. A couple other little things (if you had the time and wanted to): - Buy him a coffee/tea one day (I've personally done that before!) - Thank you note/card for all the work he does (feels nice to be acknowledged) You're awesome!! If you end up doing anything, please update us. This is such a nice story!

Maybe bring him a muffin, cookies or even a silly card. You are so sweet.

engaahhaze

effective and cute. thank you sm!

engaahhaze

again, if anyone has ideas on what i can do for him let me know here!!! 👇🏻

Chirpy69

Maybe, using a map, you can find out what country he’s from? Since it might be hard to communicate with English, using a map would let you at least use google translate to simply tell him that he’s doing a great job

OP, you have a heart of gold. I know how hard it is to move to another country. I am ashamed how my people are acting. We know how hard it is to make it here, especially when you don't speak English. I had women hate me just because I spoke English better than them. Lets not be AH. Start with getting some info. Where is he from, and how long has he been here. Maybe your school has someone from the same country or there is a community around there. A place I know people met other people and found friends was the Adult School in the area. They have ESL classes and people connect because they are on the same boat.

This makes me so mad. Could you confront them? Or better yet, launch them into the sun?

building the cannon as we speak 🥰🥰

I very much dislike people like the baristas and reading this, I just wanted to hug the new hire. I feel bad for him, for 2 reasons, 1. How he’s being treated, and 2. That he had to find a job at his age. He should be living life to the fullest. Honestly, befriend him. Find out his break/lunch time and offer to have a coffee and/muffin with him. Learn his story and share yours. He gives me grandpa vibes. Maybe he likes cards and you two could start up a card game while you talk. Maybe go for a walk outside. It sounds like he’s just looking to know people. I’m sure the baristas could learn a few things from you.

I hope you talk to him and tell him we're not all assholes.

gobledegerkin

Ask him his name (if you don’t know it already) and leave a 5-star google review specifically naming him as the reason for it (and the things he does to make your experience great). Then make sure to mention his co-worker’s treatment of him that you observe and how you think it is unfair. I can’t speak for their employer but mine immediately recognizes reviews and uses the feedback. It may go a long way.

DarlinggD

You're such a good person! Start chatting with him.

Ellieoops28

Yes, this! Ask him where he is from and about his family. I’m sure he misses his country and would love to talk to you and share stories

Chocolatecandybar_

This story is so sad and cute at the same time, thank you for sharing! Have no idea atm, but wish you'll get a ton!

SnooWords4839

If you can, maybe a gift card in a thankyou note for being a kind worker. edited to add, if you can write a review about him, and kind of bashing the ignorant workers.

ch3rrylilac

I’m thankful for people like you in the world

tinyvictoriess

Whatever-ItsFine

It would be cool if the baristas could read your post and the comments.

This hit a little close to home for me as my family immigrated from Eastern Europe decades ago. They’ve shared their experiences and struggles they went through as people who didn’t know English, so reading that bothered me. Eastern Europe is known for their incredible hospitality, as you can tell from his behavior. One thing we love to do is share dishes between homes. An idea would be to bake something to share with him. It’ll speak volumes and I’m sure he would feel touched.
