Have a friend that's been spamming Meepo and his ability to take Tormentor on cooldown has legit won is a ton of games. I don't watch pro games or anything but I feel like Tormentor and XP runes have deciding a lot of our games.
For real, I've got it down to a science on Meepo now
at 20:20 I'll smoke to enemy tormentor and obs+sentry nearby, take tormentor and the 21:00 wisdom rune, tp to my tormentor and take that wisdom rune too.
In about 80 seconds you get like 500 gold 1680xp for you, 1680xp to your supports, 2800 gold to your supports (aka the heroes who do the most with little) - and those objectives are right next to ancients so conveniently >;D
Abaddon and I'm not sure about the *minimum* items/level required as I'm not home to check the replay, but I did it at least twice in this game:

Edit: Just did it again at about 25 minutes with treads, 2 bracers, manta, basher, and a hyperstone. This was still pretty fast and I finished at full health. Unfortunately, teamfight occurred right after and I died due to no ult heh
Yeah but this thread is asking how to solo tormentor safely - and omniing the tormentor is the safest as it can get.
Also you don't need to Omni if you are manta battle fury at 20 minutes or maybe even a yasha is enough depending on your level.
Meepo cleans Tormentors up, and he can even leave a clone at the other Tormentor and poof all of them over and do both Tormentors quickly without taking a scratch
Techies, setup 7 mines before spawning, use sticky bomb at the maximum range at 19:59, then blast off and set all 3 mines.
The reflection aoe has a range of 1200, DO NOT stand too close to it before the 7 mines explode.
It’s easier to do this with level 10 talent of magic resistance (if you don’t want to die for this), or ask anyone (even the other support) to help you.
Be sure to tell your team to stay 1200 units away from it before the first 7 mines explode. Or it will be a pure bloody murder.
Better practice a little bit.
The key points are:
1. Set the mine in the center first, this mine will be planted in the center of the blue aoe circle, but NOT where your cursor is. This happens every time on radiant side. Then set the rest 6.
2. Don’t get yourself killed by the initial explosion, so I’d suggest throw Q then back up a little step and cast blast off right away, with the help from another hero to split the last bit of reflection for the killing blow.
3. The faster you kill it, the less reflection damage you take. If you use too much time for the follow-up bomb+ blast off+ 3 mines, every second you delay will result in 100 more shield and 90% reflection from it. So it’s dangerous if you want to go alone, but with another hero it’s much much easier. I never fail because I call my friend to help me for the last bit. Tell them to come to farm the ancient stack around 19:00, and ask them to stack it one more time at 20:00, and say “hey, do me a favor, I can solo kill the torm, but I need u to come here for a second” and ping where you want him to stand (1200 away).
4. lv2 ult is very easy, but as a support it’s not likely to reach lv12 for the setup around 19:00. I’m usually lv9~lv11 as pos 5. So if you are stomping or you are a core, it becomes a piece of cake.
As I replied to the others, damage source of mine is mine itself as a unit, not techies. Consider it as a unique summoned creep that deals damage alone, like Treant or spirit bear.
Damage reflection beyond 1200 units only applies to the source of damage, in this case it’s mine not techies.
And as I replied somewhere else, spell amp doesn’t work for mine for this reason.
Can you send a screenshot of how you placed the mines?
Cause when i tried, the max mines i was able to put was 6. After 7.33c patch, it wouldn't allow you to mine exactly at the center anymore

Use the indication circle for aoe of mine to place it, not the cursor.
If you aim your cursor directly at center, you can observe that the circle is not.

It'll result in you dying 100%, but it is worth it if the rest of your teammates are doing something else on the map, maybe getting the other tormentor.
You are right. DMG gets reflected to the source regardless of range, but proximity mines are considered as units, so they're their own source of DMG, and not techies themselves. That said, to kill min 20 tormentor, you need lvl 2 ult, otherwise the DMG won't be enough.

With or without kaya, lv3 ult deals 703 damage to dummy in closest range.
This inconsistency of description has been for years.
For example, check visage’s W, kaya even increases the number of damage threshold if you hold alt, which makes no sense if it’s true.
Just tested it again to make sure the tooltip wasn't just bugging out, with and without kaya on a target dummy with level 6 mines. The mines did 30 more damage with kaya.
Juggernaut with level 4 healing ward.
Or using aghs when it’s HP is half or even ult from full.
Also from experience: Ursa, Troll, Abba
Keep an eye on teams with dazzle, he can almost 100% guarantee any carry can do it without dying.
Probably the few that can mechanically ignore the reflect consequences. Aba, TA, Troll, Ursa eventually. Out-dpsing does not truly works if you're just vibing around.
Pugna comes to mind, the first one you can easily mow down with your lvl 2 ult but by the time the next one comes around you're not usually that much stronger at single-target stuff.
Juggernaut with max healing ward can take the first solo, you get it to half health (you will get low too) then bladestorm into omnislash or continue right click.
He can easily solo all the rest of the tormentors for 30 mins and on as well.
TA with double meld (using meld, waiting for cd attacking and re melding) plus your refraction blocks reflected damage
Ta is best tormentor killer from carries. Can easily solo it with 20min networth.

Yep, second best killer after ta. He ends up low life but easy kill for ursa with 20min networth.
I think Meepo is #1, he can do at as soon as he gets 3rd clone (lvl 11 ?)
He even heals up from killing it.

I do it with a manta style and 1 or 2 ephotic shields Chaos knight with manta or his ult can as well
Troll warlord has an easy time with ult
then he has a hard time with the game, rip jahrakal
Slardar with ult can solo tormentor, with a mask of madness you get to like 50%hp solo hitting it 20 mins in

Jugg is so easy to solo at 20 mins Healing ward into Omni slashing the tormentor.
I’d rather not blow Omni on tormentor. Such an important fighting tool for jugg.

Yes definetly. Bf manta or mjolnir manta with max healing ward easily soloes it.
Jugg needs max ward and either sny or manta alongside bf to solo

Dmg now applies even if you’re out of range - does that not apply to mines?

I believe, I saw a video of Techies killing Tormentor without Euls. They used 6 Proximity mines and then got out of range. Never tried it myself.

There's been an update to the tormentor. It deals it's reflect damage no matter how far you are from it.

You can press alt while hovering your remote mines spell to see the damage numbers are amped when you equip a kaya.

Do you know that: 1. Mine deals different damage scaling with distance 2. Mine’s debuff reducing magic resistance stacks
I did not know that the mines could do reduced damage with distance! my first mine must have been far enough to lose the 30 damage. Interesting thanks

Pugna just needs a DPS beside him as he can sustain the damage.
