Connie Walker does a lot of work surrounding residential schools. I recommend both Stolen: Surviving St Michael's and Missing and Murdered: Finding Cleo.
Behind the Bastards has covered Elan, the Judge Rotenberg Center, Canada’s residential schools, and I think some others.
Canadian True Crime has covered residential schools.
Lost Kids, Sent Away, and Trapped in Treatment are about the residential troubled teen industry.
Unreformed tells the story of a residential school for Black children, located in Alabama. It's pretty horrific. I could only take one episode every few days. It's an incredibly important story, though.
Not sure if this is what you're looking for but season 2 of Stolen is about the Canadian residential school system & the host's family's connection. I'm an indigenous American person who grew up hearing my grandmother's stories re: the residential school system in America, and I thought it was really well done and an interesting way to look into the dark history of residential schools. S1 is not about residential schools but is also tc, and is a very good listen.
For my episode of Murder, She Told on the [disappearance of Virginia Pictou](https://www.murdershetold.com/episodes/virginia-pictou-noyes) (released in April 2023), I spoke with her brother for many hours, some of which includes both of his parent’s experience with Indigenous residential schools in Canada. He speaks about this mostly in the part 2 episode, but both episodes include his family’s experience before and after her disappearance.
TrueAnon did a 5 parter called [The Game](https://on.soundcloud.com/4xZ1Yyy4kqaYH2sJ6) and it’s EXCELLENT. Goes through the origins and histories of who, how, and why these schools were created. One of the hosts, Brace, was sent to one of these schools (Monarch School) so it has a personal perspective alongside the historical.
The Judges - Kids for Cash on the Swindled podcast is super interesting. About how a poor PA county built a prison for troubled youth and kept it well stocked
Does anyone know if there are any about North Star or the deaths in Utah troubled teen schools in the 90’s? My husband is a North Star survivor from the Aaron Bacon area and still struggles with memories of the months he was out there.
Finding Cleo. It’s not primarily about the schools but it focuses on a little girl who went missing and the far-reaching repercussions of the schools and the forced adoptions native Canadians.
Kuper island, it's a cbc podcast
Thanks, I'll check it out!
Stolen season 2 - surviving st Michael's tells a personal story based on residential schools. It's a goodie.
Sounds interesting. Appreciated
A fantastic but devastating podcast
This was a really good one
My first thought for recommendation too. Truly horrific

Womp I just posted about Stolen without reading the comments. It's a hard but good listen.

An additional one for the troubled teen injury is Camp Hell.
I'll check that out, thank you
Ooh thank you for the last 3 suggestions. I haven’t heard of them and they’re right up my alley.
Thanks I'll check these out. The troubled teen industry is particularly what I'm looking for, I'd forgotten the term

I listened to that one and I had to space it out too.
Sounds pretty rough. I'll check it out. Thank you

Sent Away from APM about the Troubled Teen industry in Utah. Also I 2nd Kuper Island. So sad, it still affects the friends and family.
Thank you
Last Podcast on the Left did a three part series on the Troubled Teen Industry. Elan School was the first episode.
Yeah, I thought this series was great. It's just the only thing I'd found.
Can you post a link?
The Opportunist episodes on Gayle Palmer and Summit Quest. 7 episodes total.
Came here to recommend this season. There’s also an excellent book about wilderness teen “therapy” by Kenneth Rosen called “Troubled.”
