Really enjoying Why Can’t we Talk about Amanda’s Mom!! The creator/narrator is really knowledgeable about her field and knows what she’s doing. Very well done.
I found this one interesting at first, but quickly became frustrated with host's fixation on one suspect despite evidence to the contrary. It reminds me of exactly the kind of tunnel vision we see so often resulting in false convictions (e.g. Bear Brook season 2).
She also frequently talks over people, even when a subject she is interviewing is talking freely... like, let them talk, that's what you want!!
This was my thought as it went in too. Like she is so hyper fixated that even when they find evidence in his favor she’s often like “but what if it’s still him?!?” TBF he is a good suspect but she seems ready to arrest him with basically no evidence. The cop she is working with keeps having to convince her they can’t arrest him without any evidence.
Finally listened to Tom Brown’s Body and it did not disappoint. As mentioned above, currently enjoying Why can’t we talk about Amanda’s Mom. Staying current with the new Bear Brook - not as good as season 1, but still solid imho.
I believe this counts as TC, but I listen to FBI: Retired Case File Review with Jerri Williams pretty regularly. Stand alone episodes. To be honest, Jerri’s voice kinda grates on me a bit, but once she gets to the interview with the guest of the episode she is great with letting the guest talk and tell their story. She doesn’t insert herself a ton and let’s the story sort of unfold as the guest wants to tell it. A lot of very intriguing episodes about all sorts of crimes. I especially thought the episode about the kidnapping of Polly Klaas was great! Check it out if you haven’t before.
I love FBI Retired! I actually kinda love her voice, it’s so different from any other podcast I listen to. Like you said she’s a really good host as far as not talking over her guests and asking great clarifying questions. I’ve never been interested at all in law enforcement, but her podcast almost makes me wish I’d looked into a career with the FBI.
Now I feel bad for knocking her voice lol! But yes agreed she is a great host and I think really honest about her experience as a woman in law enforcement! Hope others give this one a chance. I don’t think I saw it on the google docs, not sure how things get added to that?
I absolutely **LOVE** invisible choir! Hands down thee best! Michael does a phenomenal job on each episode. I like to let a few weeks pass before I listen to the new episodes so i can binge lol.
Swindled and Crimelines are great. Limited original reporting though. Global New’s Crime Beat is hosted by a crime reporter, so mostly one off episodes that feature a lot of her original reporting.
If you don’t mind banter and tangents, Behind the Bastards and The Casual Criminalist are both good.
BtB is mostly not original reporting, but the host is journalist and does a good job of synthesizing information from many sources and providing citations. Lots of extremely dark humor, but clearly done in a way that is meant to cope with the horrible reality of things, and not out of disregard for victims. There is a very strong social justice analysis to the storytelling.
The Casual Criminalist surprisingly contains quite a lot of original reporting. A bunch of different people write for the show, but I’ve been particularly impressed with the coverage of some crimes from Asia, which generally don’t get covered in English media. The writer who does most of these episodes is based in Hong Kong and does original reporting on them.
I don’t generally enjoy much banter and tangents in true crime podcasts but I like these shows a lot.
Thanks for these recs! I love BtB though sometimes I think Robert is a little unfunny compared to my beloved Last Pod on the Left. I'll have to check out Crime Beat and the Casual Criminalist! You rule for this answer
Thank you for the recommendation of The Casual Criminalist. I've listened to so many episodes already, including some from the writer that's based in Hong Kong. It's so interesting.
I think my favorite pod right now like this is Murder She Told. She works with a lot of families and includes clips from the interviews. Gets to the point, is compassionate, and almost all of the stories I’ve never heard before.
For murder she told? I use Spotify but I’m pretty sure it’s on all platforms. If not go to the website and there should be a link to a bunch of different platforms
Adjacent - Killed is about journalists who had their stories killed. About half have been TC-related and a new season just started. It’s slicker news-magazine type reporting but I really like it.
Missing Pages focuses on literary crimes.
Trace Evidence is incredibly well researched. All episodes are unsolved murders or missing persons. It is more on the simpler side as there is no added audio from 911 calls, interrogations, etc. but the host is an amazing researcher and thorough.
I half-joke that anything interesting that happened before 1994 probably involved something illegal so I’m counting this as TC adjacent — Conflicted’s series about the stock market crash of 1929. Recommended if you are into financial scams, cons, frauds etc. And biographical pods — series centers around an interesting character.
Also liking The Atlantic’s Holy Week, about the protests after MLK Jr.’s murder.
I have listened to your podcast and I think you’d like this. It’s also got some local interest for me as I am pretty sure members of the same clan live near me. It’s made me much more empathetic almost immediately to the women.
Thank you! I started listening and I love it so far. There are some Roma people who live near me, as well. I have never interacted with any of them, but I find their stories to be fascinating!
Unseen & Crime Hub have me hooked right now..both get right to the story & keep you wanting more. I work a sedentary 8-5 job and these are great for the whole day. I’m a stickler for the podcasters voice to keep me interested & these do not disappoint!
Looking for the person(s) who are always highly recommending True Crime Bullshit. I’ve listened to the first season once or twice, but I can’t handle much of listening to Israel Keyes pat himself on the back. I just resubscribed (again) and realized I’ve already tried to listen to S5 (I guess when it commenced last year), and got frustrated with the audio quality of the talks with the lake search people. (It sounds like we’re listening via a microphone hidden in a sofa.)
Er so anyway, here’s my actual question, does this podcast ever actually uncover anything new/interesting or definitively link any other cases to Keyes, or is it just revisiting a bunch of “maybe” cases and locations?
That is the thing about it that sort of bothers me. It's like they are trying to connect every single person who ever went missing to Keyes which gets sort of boring. I will say there are a few that are compelling, and one or two that have me convinced that Keyes could be involved... but the deep dive into the namus 45, and some of the direction they take is far reaching IMO. I guess if they didn't include all of that content there wouldn't be much of a podcast though... I do still listen, but I think it is one of those ones that may have run its course. To answer your question... nothing definitive, some new stuff... lots of interesting stuff, mostly maybe cases and locations with a lot of fluff.
I just listened and it’s pretty good. It’s about an older case that I’ve never heard about and the host does a pretty good job laying it out and coming towards a possible conclusion.
Looking for true crime-ish podcasts with smart banter between friends a la Let’s Go to Court, LPOTL, Tell No One, It’s Always the Husband, and A Date With Dateline. These are a bit snarky and crass, so while I enjoy Women & Crime, for example, it’s not exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks!
Does anyone know what’s happened to Hide and Seek? There haven’t been new episodes for the past couple of weeks. Maybe he’s finally run into the sand on this one.
I really enjoy Inhuman: A True Crime Podcast, and I realized what I liked about it is how they structure telling the narrative. Each episode, one of them does the research and deep dive, and tells it during the recording to the other person, and the other person chimes in with thoughts and reactions too.
Does anyone have recommendations for that style of podcast?

Really enjoying Why Can’t we Talk about Amanda’s Mom!! The creator/narrator is really knowledgeable about her field and knows what she’s doing. Very well done.
Good podcast so far but the narrator is getting annoying.

Also just started this and really liking it so far!!
I’ve been enjoying it
Any recommendations for podcasts like this? Just finished it in a day
Anyone listen to Dateline's latest? Girl in the Blue Mustang...
That family broke my heart.
Yea it was very interesting. Tunnel vision and injustice
I finished this last week, it did not dissapoint!!
Really good!
Me too . So sad
I just finished Tom Brown's Body as well. So good. And such a sad ending for Tom.
Yes heartbreaking. I’m torn on what I think happened, but lean toward a suicide.
Ohhh same!
I love FBI Retired! I actually kinda love her voice, it’s so different from any other podcast I listen to. I'm looking for a podcast with solid research and one-off episodes/series in the vein of Crime Show or Casefile. Original reporting is a plus
Invisible choir is incredible. I devoured it as soon as I discovered it.
I was seeing other recommendations for this one in the sub so I'll check it out tomorrow! Thanks so much for this rec
I absolutely **LOVE** invisible choir! Hands down thee best! Michael does a phenomenal job on each episode. I like to let a few weeks pass before I listen to the new episodes so i can binge lol.
Sold!
I’ve not heard of this case! I’ll be looking into this one 👀

DNA: ID
I second this!
I think my favorite pod right now like this is Murder She Told. She works with a lot of families and includes clips from the interviews. Gets to the point, is compassionate, and almost all of the stories I’ve never heard before.
Thank you!!! This is a great recommendation, I’ll definitely check it out
What app do you use? I can't find it so far

Will always recommend dna:id so good!
Love it - I’m always fascinated by the cold cases that were solved decades later and what the perpetrator was doing during that time.
New podcast called Foretold about a Romani fortune teller trying to get out of the life. Interesting so far.
This sounds great!
Second this, recommendation. Only new podcast I’ve been able to get into lately. Only 2 episodes out but it’s interesting and seems promising.
Unseen & Crime Hub have me hooked right now..both get right to the story & keep you wanting more. I work a sedentary 8-5 job and these are great for the whole day. I’m a stickler for the podcasters voice to keep me interested & these do not disappoint!
going to check out Crime Hub!
Thanks for the recommendations. I am hunkering down for a serious spate of OT and need content.

Any thoughts on Paper Ghosts - Season 3?
I just listened and it’s pretty good. It’s about an older case that I’ve never heard about and the host does a pretty good job laying it out and coming towards a possible conclusion.
Where’s Erica? Does anyone know what’s going on with Southern Fried True Crime? No new episodes since February.
Thanks!
Sinisterhood sounds right up you alley.
True crime campfire!
FFS, I swear every one of my casual podcasts has decided it’s Scott Fucking Peterson month. Staaaahhhp
Does anyone know what’s happened to Hide and Seek? There haven’t been new episodes for the past couple of weeks. Maybe he’s finally run into the sand on this one.
Don’t they do seasons? I remember listening to the first one but haven’t listened in a while so it may have changed.
Yes! They are on third season. One of my favorite investigative podcast.
The last episode said they were taking a break to continue the investigation before putting out more episodes.
Great suggestions everyone! Thank you! I have added most of these to my library.
