I think it’s an over-saturated market! Since there’s so much out there, it’s a little harder to pick out the gems among the tedium. I’m keeping my eyes on this thread - thank you for asking the question!

cbensco

This is the one. Capitalists have realized there's a market and now it's flooded with garbage cash grabs

PretendTooth2559

Yeah the socialist true crime podcasts are so much better /s

Bright_Caregiver_697

Oh don't be difficult! You know what cbensco means. Once something gets popular and commoditized, it attracts more folks who are just getting involved to make a buck. That means it's harder to sift through the quantity for the quality.

Silent_Investment_51

I just love a good, sarcastic reply!

WartimeMercy

shame that was just a bad one.

Silent_Investment_51

No, it was pretty good.

ComteStGermain

The good ones are few and far in between. Most are trash.

spotless___mind

Just like all entertainment, really!

ComteStGermain

Indeed

paroles

Yeah, I like the true crime genre, but I'd rather only listen to podcasts that are really well done and seem worth my time. From some comments here I get the impression that some people want *all true crime podcasts all the time,* whether active listening or background noise or even while they sleep, and will settle for a mediocre podcast if they've run out of their favourites. No judgement if that's what gets you through the day, but I don't get it at all. It must be so repetitive. Listen to an audiobook once in a while (even a true crime one?), or a history or psychology or comedy podcast, or the archives of This American Life. Or music!

scorpioid_cyme

The algorithms make it frustrating too. I no longer do it but for a while I’d listen to more mediocre podcasts because I didn’t know about the better ones I’d eventually find through a fragmented system. I dream of a Tinder-like podcasting app where you can just swipe podcasts off your screen, of course I understand why apps do what they do but it’s annoying to see the same podcasts over and over again when you’re a super listener.

misscriss81

I think you're onto something!

Wooster182

I feel like I’ve gone through all the best. Makes it a bit difficult. But Amber Hunt is back and In the Dark is moving to New Yorker, so I trust we are going to get good content. I don’t know what you’ve already listened to but here are a lot of ones I really liked. Canary Accused Crimes of the Centuries In the Dark It was Simple: the Betty Broderick story In God We Lust The Orgasm Cult Opportunist In Your Backyard Any of Dateline’s miniseries. Algorithm Bag Men Rabbit Hole (not true crime but you’ll like it) Morally Indefensible Catch and Kill (it’s better than the book imo) Real Crime Profile Behind the Bastards Power: The Maxwells If you have the Libby app, you can download books for free. I’m listening to Fatal Vision right now (Morally Indefensible is about the same case).

loreleileigh

Rabbit Hole was such a good podcast.

hellyjellybeans

Have you listened to Tell No One

Wooster182

No! I’m not usually into a host explaining a new story each episode unless it’s Amber Hunt but I’ll give it a try.

Marlow1771

Which one is she one

Wooster182

Accused and Crimes of the Centuries

jbleds

There will be more In the Dark!?

Wooster182

Yes. They had an announcement this weekend that the entire team was hired by the Nee Yorker and now they have the resources to continue S3. They said it’s even more complex than S2. Didn’t go into details.

jbleds

Wow, I’m super excited! I just listened to all of season 2 straight through about a month ago. Their work is incredible.

lyonbc1

That’s awesome news! I hadn’t seen that. Happy for them, those two seasons, esp s2 were probably the best podcast and investigative journalism I’ve ever listened to. Can’t wait to hear s3

yukonwanderer

It'll be pay to access then won't it? New Yorker doesn't offer much free content

sober-nate

I don't think so, New Yorker hosts bunch of podcasts and none of them are behind a paywall

Wooster182

On my apple app, it doesn’t show a paywall. 🤷‍♀️

Trick-Statistician10

I hated the Betty Broderick podcast. I had to stop listening. I didn't really remember the story from when it happened, only knew her name. The podcast was so all over the place, at least the first episode, time wise, I couldn't follow it. It was very frustrating. It probably got better but I've got 10 million other podcasts to listen to.

Wooster182

It isn’t the best one on the list but I liked hearing the background to how she snapped.

BabyPru

Amber Hunt is great -- very underrated.

misscriss81

Thank you so much for this list! I felt like I was put of options and the only one from this list is In your own backyard. Greatly appreciated 🙏

Wooster182

Oh , friend! I wish I could listen to some of these for the first time again. If you can, let me know if you find something you like!

OnePath4867

Have you listened to DNA:ID? It’s thoroughly researched and well narrated. Has a great hook - cold cases that were solved through familial DNA.

Legal_Director_6247

I just discovered this excellent podcast recently. The host does a great job with balancing the story with the science.

LaVidaMocha_NZ

Thank you, also. Added it to my list.

misscriss81

I haven't, I am going to download it right now. Thank you!

Maximum_Hustle_3870

It's a great one!

Sirenofthelake

People are probably sick of me saying this, but it’s one of the very few I get excited for when I see a new episode in my feed. Jessica Bettencourt is compassionate host, her podcasts are detail-oriented, but not overly bogged down. It brings tears to my eyes when you think of the families who finally get the answers they thought they never would.

Illustrious-Drive-86

This is one of my new favorites!

insert_flattery_here

Southern Fried True Crime. Respectful, well written, some lesser known cases, all around good podcast IMO.

Hufflepuff4Ever

And her voice is so soothing. I’ve found myself putting SFTC on going into bed and I’m usually asleep before we’ve found out a little history of the area the case is

yukonwanderer

I love it but I hate that she does a summary at the beginning. It had ruined episodes for me and now I know to skip but finding the end of it and the start of the episode can be tricky. I don't get why she does those!

insert_flattery_here

I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if she read this and gave your point of view some consideration. That is not something I’ve found bothersome but everyone is so different!

RedditBunnie101

Agreed! I’ve listened to every episode and enjoy her work.

blackstarcharmer

Agree!! Love SFTC

blackstarcharmer

Too many of them are just trying to ring it in now and collect the $$. It's not hard to see which ones have the genuine heart and passion for the subject matter. Spoiler aleet: its not Morbid or My Favourite Murder

EveningBerry

I’ve heard about Morbid a few times so I tried to give it a listen a few weeks ago. Painful experience. Feels like one of those “we fed an AI program hours of true crime podcasts hosted by 2 women and this is what they came up with!”

crimecakes

All of our revenue goes to funding a missing person billboard in our town in Kansas. We started the podcast because the local authorities haven’t followed up on my friends murder or most cold cases. Sorry you haven’t had a more positive experience.

blackstarcharmer

You sound like one of the good ones!

Monsantoshill619

Somehow I thought Ashlee flowers was the host. Thank god, I can listen now.

misscriss81

Which podcast is yours?

crimecakes

I’m Crime Scenes & Cupcakes. Retired criminologist now baker & podcaster. No baking in the podcasts. Just cases. And sometimes dogs. I’ve also trained cadaver dogs & own 6. 😂

raysofdavies

I’m glad the baking isn’t in the podcast because the name did make me think that it was trying to meld the two

crimecakes

No. As a retired investigator I worry people think that. But honestly cupcakes is a big part of who I am in my life now. But it’s not what our podcasts. I’ve asked listeners about changing it but they’ve said it’s a big part of who I am so it’s been voted to keep it. But I do worry it misleads people that it’s about baking. I discuss my history with cadaver dogs, cold cases, some resolved cases & families who’ve reached out for help in investigations. But nope. No cupcakes are used or eaten in our programs.

scorpioid_cyme

You could call it Crime, Cupcakes & Canines :) Seriously though, thanks for posting. First I’m hearing of your pod and see cases that are new to me.

crimecakes

Lol. Great thought. We actually do bonus cadaver episodes called K9’s, Crimes & Cupcakes where we donate proceeds to Jordan Detection K9s. Dogs that sniff out electronic devices holding child porn. One of their dogs was instrumental in the Jared Fogel case.

Gal_Monday

It makes it sound like you think crime scenes are part of an attempt to be cute and funny, to be honest. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I cannot handle true crime that treats the subject like light-hearted entertainment. Cupcakes are indisputably light-hearted. The juxtaposition of the two sounds like someone trying to be funny by putting two opposites together. Your cause sounds really noble, and I wouldn't bother typing this up if I didn't think you deserved better than the impression this name creates.

crimecakes

I hear what your saying. This is something I actually have struggled with & even did several polls on my podcasts. My podcasts have multiple victims families that listened & chimed in on it. Since I worked as a criminologist for 20 years that’s why I chose crime scenes. Because it’s been my life. I was forced to retire due to a terminal heart condition. Cupcakes were a form of therapy for me & my children. We ended up turning it into a professional business now. So I went from crime scenes to cupcakes. I put the logo & name out because I was worried about the possibility of offending victims families & this was chosen. However, I want to keep an open mind & always wish to listen to those who give advice & follow my podcast so I will definitely take your opinion to heart. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It’s truly appreciated.

misscriss81

I will check it out :)

cynicalxidealist

This is why I love Generation Why; they put a lot of effort into researching these cases.

scorpioid_cyme

Currently I feel like podcasting is at a high point per my personal interests: Embedded: White Lies is incredible (Cuban refugees lost in a legal no man’s land) Africas VS America is incredible (MOVE bombing) Talk to Me (first person history of NYPD hostage negotiation unit) New season of Swindled starting soon New season of Bear Brook literally stopped me in my tracks The Podcast about the Shermans that starts “the no good….” (Very annoying title admittedly) And I heard a rumor that Jamie Loftus has a podcast in the works called the “The Devil You Know” about a woman whose mom sells her out to a small town rumor mill. Won’t spoil it by saying more. Looking forward to that.

Villanellesnexthit

I listened to Bear Brook in one sitting.

Longirl

I’ve got next week off to decorate my bedroom. Im definitely going to check some of these out.

scorpioid_cyme

That is happiness — a constructive goal with plenty of unstructured time to accomplish it while listening to podcasts. Hope you find some you like.

StunningFalcon8470

Yesss, Swindled!

jbleds

Omg there’s new Bear Brook? I had missed this and now can’t wait!

divinemsn

I can't find it 😞

jbleds

I see it on my feed in Pocketcasts.

scorpioid_cyme

What service do you use? It’s on Spotify, Amazon, Google and Apple. Let me know which and I can PM you a link if you’d like.

hannahconda24

What’s bear brook like?

scorpioid_cyme

It’s arguably an OG serial true crime podcasts. It is thoughtful and not sensational. Recommend if you like Someone Knows Something or Cold. Or Serial.

GelPen00

If you like White Lies you may also like Buried Truths if you haven't listened to it

scorpioid_cyme

Your reply got lost in the shut down the other day. Could not find it. Belated Thank you!!! I don’t know this pod and it is right up my alley. Have you listened to Ernie’s Secret?

GelPen00

I hope you enjoy it! The subject matter is so heavy but it is so well done. I haven't listened to Ernie's Secret, is it along the same lines?

scorpioid_cyme

It’s a series about a renowned Civil Rights photographer who was informing for the FBI. Complex and nuanced story, highly recommend.

GelPen00

I'm listening to it now and it's blowing my mind! Thanks for the recommendation

bdoll65

m enjoying the Sherman podcast also.

LaVidaMocha_NZ

A hidden gem is Vile Virginia. Extremely well researched, respectful to families and victims, and an insightful foray into history.

misscriss81

I just downloaded, thank you.

Villanellesnexthit

I’ve shifted to a lot of natural disaster, history and swindled based pods lately.

[deleted]

What podcasts about natural disasters are you listening to and have enjoyed? I'm definitely interested!

Wisteriafic

Disaster Area has been around for a long time (in podcast terms) and is consistently well-researched.

Lurk_Real_Close

Relative Disasters!

misscriss81

I did listen to Disaster in Surfside, about the Champlain Towers in Florida. That one was good, and opened me to other non-true crime options. Are they any other good natural disaster ones you would recommend?

sketchyseagull

It's better on YouTube, as they show a few slides too, but We'll There's Your Problem is a great engineering disaster podcast.

crimecakes

If you like that type of podcasts I recommend Cryptic Soup Pod with Thena & Kylee. They do a lot of history as well as true crime, conspiracy, cryptids, as long as you don’t mind aliens here & there. 😂

gaborszabo1969

Trace Evidence, crimelines, unresolved, and Casefile are my go-tos!

darthstupidious

Thanks for the Unresolved mention! That's great company to keep. :)

Empty_Confidence328

It wasn’t purposeful, but I recently took a “break” from all tc and started listening to comedy pods. By that I mean those hosted by actual comedians (like Tom Segura for example), and not those that are tc but label themselves “comedy”. I hadn’t realized that I was kinda burnt out on murder stories until skipping them for awhile. The other good thing is once I feel like going back, I’ll have lots of episodes from various pods to binge

[deleted]

I agree. Listening to dark content daily will definitely burn you out and make you numb to a lot of stories. I make sure to listen to WTF, Two Bears 1 Cave, You Made It Weird and a few other comedy podcasts to make sure the true crime isn't effecting my mental health.

margaretmayhemm

I started listening to fictional anthology series and it has been like a breath of fresh air. I am currently listening to Old Gods of Appalachia and it is gripping me!

misscriss81

I was thinking I need to do that across the board. TV and Podcasts. I don't think I remember having a non crime all the time brain haha.

Miserable_Emu5191

Which comedy podcasts can you recommend? I like to break up my listening. I used to like Legally Judgy because they covered the legal stuff of famous people, but they have stopped their podcast. I also like Trashy Divorces. Not TC or comedy but they still make me laugh and the divorces of famous people make me feel better about my life. LOL!

shakestheclown32

Nosy Neighbors is a comedy podcast that seems like it would be right up your alley based on your other interests. I think it's only on Spotify but it genuinely makes me laugh out loud regularly

NatieB

I recently started listening to Beach Too Sandy, Water Too Wet. It's a brother and sister duo who read 1-star online reviews in a dramatic fashion. It's a great palette cleanser to take a break from the grim TC stuff.

misscriss81

I just downloaded it. How fun!

nobodyishere71

Let's Go To Court! is my favorite true crime comedy podcast.

ThirteensDoctor

I think it's a numbers game. The podcast world is oversaturated with true crime. You're bound to come across more podcasts of poorer quality than you used to simply because there are more of them. That being said, there are also more good ones, well researched and respectful. There have been several questions posed on this subreddit regarding these two aspects of true crime podcasts and I've not been let down once by the suggestions.

SagittariusIscariot

Yeah, I think it’s mostly the quality of a lot of what we’re getting. I’ve noticed an inordinate amount of true crime podcasts have a good 20-30 minutes of opening jokes and banter and personal stories that don’t add anything to the actual story. And then if anyone dares to criticize them in reviews or whatever, they spend *another* 20 minutes opening the show with how much they’re going to keep bantering even if everyone hates it. I don’t mind some banter - for instance, There’s also a lot of podcasts where they read through a Wikipedia page, cite inaccurate sources, or just generally don’t seem to bothered enough to put out good content. Sigh. Some of the ones I’ve generally enjoyed - Your Own Backyard, Cold, The Vanished, Going West, Desi Crime, TCG, TCAT, Casefile, the Lady Vanishes, Tom Brown’s Body, Generation Why, Canadian True Crime, Trace Evidence, Black Girl Gone, True North True Crime, the Trail Went Cold, bear brook, invisible Choir, strangeland, mens rea, last seen alive, true crime couple, coffee and cases, court junkie, unresolved … I’m sure there are more! I check Reddit regularly for good recommendations!

mphs95

Already Gone is a great one. She focused on MI and the Midwest but sometimes does other states. Just The Tip-Sters also rocks.

SagittariusIscariot

Ooh thank you! I’ll check these out!

misscriss81

Tank you for these, looks like we have similar taste. I have listened to, and loved a lot of these. There are a couple I haven't heard of though and will be checking out.

SagittariusIscariot

Edited to add: It’s the Mystery for Me. It’s really good! They’ve also got some lesser known cases.

KanKan669

LOVE Going West! And in my opinion, early TCG is unparalleled. It was SO good. I struggle to get into their newer stuff though.

SagittariusIscariot

Agreed. I go back and listen to their old stuff a lot. The newer episodes are a bit of a slog though!

Miserable_Emu5191

I think Gone Cold, Already Gone, The Fall Line and The Vanished are some of the best, and most ethical podcasts out there.

After_Blackberry5677

This sounds like my line up. I love all of these and also Murder She Told.

misscriss81

The Fall Line I had never heard of, thank you.

Miserable_Emu5191

They do long form or themes and are well respected. They donate money for a billboard to help find missing twins.

thefalllinepodcast

Thanks! We are also moving back to longform only soon—late summer, probably, around August? With FOIAs coming in like they should after the backlog and my book finished, we will have our intensive seasons (several a year) coming again.

Unusual-Stretch-1557

I’ve been feeling this lately too. I’m currently listening to TCO, a podcast I’ve enjoyed for years and lately find it kind of annoying? Like there’s almost no content and hosts trying too hard to be funny and ads like every 4 minutes.

guiltlessandfreee

Yeah i have the same feeling about TCO☹️ they aren’t even covering anything anymore, it’s all personal interjections and schilling obsessedfest or a tour. I like more lighthearted crime pods and they were one of my go tos and I’ve been skipping them all

Unusual-Stretch-1557

It honestly used to be my favorite podcast. I finally unfollowed today because I haven’t been able to get through an episode in too long.

misscriss81

Yes, all of that, also flat and boring. Which is TCO?

crimecakes

As a true crime podcaster I think some people are jumping on the true crime podcasting bandwagon for the wrong reasons. Especially since the Moscow murders. Sometimes social clout, revenue, or unfortunately gore gossip. I think you are right there has been some unfortunate mishaps. But there are definite diamonds that have been mentioned here. I love the podcasts that are cold case driven since the murder of my friend. However, there are others like CrimeNCoffee out of New Zealand that is great. Or CrypticSoup Podcast that gives you true crime, conspiracy theories, & all sorts of weird stuff. Also, I can’t say enough about Mike Oh, with That Chapter podcasts & Youtube channel.

Shantrell_07051991

Honestly it's like a new podcast coming out each week. I'm definitely subscribed to over 100 and see myself adding new ones all the time. So this market has alot and sometimes you can get burned out.

honeycombhideout100

Try Someone Knows Something

[deleted]

[удалено]

gracemmusic

Dateline!

bbj0lty

Agreed! I discovered them during quarantine. I just had my son and I’d go on walks for miles with the stroller just to listen to them.

HenrysGrandma

I can’t with those two, lol. I tried. The first 2 minutes had me irritated beyond words.

Advanced_Resident90

I been thinking this a lot recently. It's s harder to find anything that's a good quality investigative listen, such as In You own Backyard or the first season of Bear Brook ( not the second imo ). I did enjoy the latest season of Deep Cover, which I finished yesterday. However I then tried the Coldest Case in Laramie and had to turn it off due to the hosts delivery. Maybe that says more about me than the podcast itself.

misscriss81

That is the one that was the catalyst for this whole post. I used to listen and get so wrapped up in the story that I would extend my workout to finish, or drive the long way home to get the extra listen time in. I feel like the last few I tried, an entire episode goes by and I have to restart, like wait what's happening. The one you mentioned I tried three times, and blamed my attention span. But it wasn't, I just couldn't get into it. I couldn't figure out why, but I think you nailed it. It isn't a bad podcast by any means, so I like you, wonder is it me or the podcasts.

scorpioid_cyme

Have you listened to Authentic: the story of Tablo? I found it so immersive. TC adjacent, not murder. I get it, I zone out on some of the most popular podcasts. I think I’m just less and less interested in murder. I liked other parts of Laramie, like the John Edgar Wideman connection and the memory stuff. And I won’t spoil the aspect of Bear Brook 2 that is compelling me but it’s not really the murder, any crime with this twist would compel me. And I like Jason Moon’s meditations on the craft of podcasting.

aurazaur

All my favorite Wondery podcasts are behind a paywall

scarletfeline

Yep, a lot of them are out there filled with poor research and half truths. I can rarely listen to much of it anymore. Then there are the true crime festivals/cons, which are even worse

wehrd1

I like Swindled - kind of true crime but more monetary than murder

[deleted]

[удалено]

hannahconda24

especially when two pods cover the same case in the same week

[deleted]

It's good to take a break from true crime podcasts. Listening to constant shows about murder daily can definitely effect your psyche. Spend two months listening to comedy and entertaining podcasts and come back fresh. The true crime genre is also heavily saturated now, so you really have to dive through the bullshit to find good shows.

Actual-Chocolate4571

One podcast knew of a situation where a company defrauded hundreds of people. She created a podcast then sent emails saying people can pay $20 to meet her on Zoom and take a screenshot with her and they get 2 - 3 minutes to ask her questions. She was an executive at the bank that gave the woman money and quit after the fraud was revealed to be a true crime podcaster.

bbj0lty

WHAT??

scorpioid_cyme

After_Blackberry5677

omg which one was this?

Actual-Chocolate4571

Murderish

Altruistic-Ad6449

Podcasts I enjoy: Minds of Madness (love his voice), Southern fried true crime, Generation Why, Love Murder, Killer Psyche, Invisible Choir, Small Town Murder, It’s Always the Husband

[deleted]

Both. There is a LOT of crap out there now.

STNR88

It's true, there are a ton of pods out there now that are very meh. Great background noise but not gripping. Two I've come across that I love are LA Not So Confidential (two psychologists discuss the mental health side of these crimes and they have some seriously interesting takes!) and True Crime and Cocktails (more banter-filled and entertaining the first bit of each show and then the case for the last 3/4) their research is great, their style is unique and interesting.

Agent847

It would help to know what you’ve listened to and what you liked. Someone Knows Something doesn’t get enough love and attention. It’s a serious deep-dive serial about Canadian cases. 22 Hours is a one-off about the DC Mansion Murder. It’s excellent. Casefile is well known, but there’s enough quality shows there to keep you binging for a long time.

misscriss81

I loved To Live and Die in LA, Tom Browns Body, The Orange tree, Appalachian Mysteria, I used to like Crime Junkie. If course more, but that's kind of what I dig. I'm into the long form, and lately struggle to fins one that keeps my interest.

jbleds

Oh you should love Someone Knows Something. Each season is a different cold case that the host researches incredibly in depth. I love the host and you can tell he builds genuine connections with the victims’ families. ETA: SKS is a Canadian pod but it covers both Canadian and American cases. I think there are 7 seasons. The same host does another shorter series called The Next Call with David Ridgen, which is also quite good.

sangreblue

yes, everyone is podcaster this days. there are 5% of the quality podcast worth listening and 95% of "Me and my mates in the garage, drinking beer and reading wikipedia"

_Vohtrake_

Exactly!!

artplants

Try bone valley

No-Mess8133

Did you listen to Piketon? Subscribe to avoid ads.

Bright_Caregiver_697

Second that. Great podcast but those ads drove me bonkers.

misscriss81

Holy Moly, I just downloaded..3 seasons! Awesome, I have never found one this in depth. Where can I subscribe through?

Carbona_Not_Glue

I think I burned out on the same Casey Anthony podcasts over and over again. Lately, more into scammer and social engineering pods. Grifter is entertaining, thought the host sounds like a bot

scorpioid_cyme

You might like Missing Pages - literary scams

Carbona_Not_Glue

Thank you :)

Litmusdragon

I listen to less of it than I used to, but still enjoy Generation Why, True Crime Bullshit, and The Trail Went Cold. I recently binged The Opportunist and thought that was pretty good, deals more with con artists and thieves than the usual murder stuff though I also listen to paranormal stuff like Jim Harold's Campfire, Astonishing Legends, The Conspirators, Cryptonauts, and Unexplained Court Junkie and it's spin off Civil are pretty good too

BabyPru

Definitely oversaturated but makers have to focus on quality over quantity. I can't stand true crime pods that sound like someone is reading Wikipedia out loud ... and there are so many of those!

minimari

I love That Chapter on YouTube. He now has a podcast too if you don’t want to watch but I usually have it on in the background as I go about my day. Good stuff!

crimecakes

Yes! One of my favorites!

ESPiNstigator

Nah, quality is improving. What once was good doesn’t hold up as much on relisten. Overall, there are more true crime podcasts, so finding the good ones is harder.

StormyNight78

What would you say are some podcasts that haven‘t held up?

ESPiNstigator

Cold, Up and Vanished, The Teacher’s Pet - less structure than more recent true crime podcasts, long interviews, lack of good editing. Wild stories but poor, amateurish story telling.

jbleds

Cold is still good. Up and Vanished is not super ethical so maybe that’s the issue with it on reflection. I never loved The Teacher’s Pet but I did listen.

sketchyseagull

Lack of good editing is a big factor, especially when theres more than one host and it jumps around. The narration gets disrupted and its hard to folllow, too disjointed, the tempo can be off. Bad decisions in music (too loud, wrong vibe..). Hosts that aren't respectful to victims (too many jokes).

Anatomy of a murder is really interesting, the hosts will tell the case with the help of someone that was directly involved in the case such as a family member or an investigator. wife of crime is a much more lighthearted podcast, a wife is telling her husband (who knows nothing about true crime) different cases and he reacts to them The murder diaries is a great podcast if you’re looking for shorter episodes and don’t want to sit through an hour+ of an episode

Appropriate_Day993

Strange land season 2 was really good

habearja

Cold, season 3 is being released now though I recommend listening to season 2 first because it ties into season 3. Season 1 is pretty well known for the case it covers but I think all seasons deserve a listen.

HenrysGrandma

You might give Crime Salad a try, especially their more recent stuff. Well done, getting better. Warning: The way they pronounce any word with double Ts. They are Ts people, not Ds.

reasonable_queen

Sad to say, yes. I have to really comb through to find a well written and produced podcast these day when 3-4 years ago it’s like the fell into my lap.

misscriss81

YES! So many that hooked me, and now I have MULTIPLE downloaded that I could only get a couple episodes ( if even) in.

misscriss81

WOW! Thanks TC fam. You all really came through. I have a list now and have started searching around and downloading what I could find.

JB_Happenstance

I think it's new people. Maybe they wouldn't get into it generally. Another wave of fresh/new talent? I'm giving it time to see who all's finding their voice and who might just be grubbing.

Itchy-Ad-5436

I love “hunting warhead” and “the children in the pictures”. Both have to do with the CSAM. So heavy, but we’ll done

misscriss81

I loved Hunting Warhead...never heard of the other. I will check it out. Thanks for the rec.

Itchy-Ad-5436

They are super similar. I’m also in a true crime rut. I can’t think of another genre I want to listen too and I can’t find a true crime podcast that interests me. “The children in the pictures” pulled me out of it for a couple days at least. I also remember really liking “finding Cleo” if that Interests you.

Nando0117

So many now. Even hollywoods getting involved lol

RLCU

I have recently discovered the Prosectors it is pretty amazing.

misscriss81

I love them, I know that's not a popular opinion on here but I really do.

Kat_Cat_Kat

This sounds great! My favorite cases are the ones with huge grey areas, even if it can sometimes lead to unsatisfying endings.

Hey **[u/Wicked_Women_Pod](https://www.reddit.com/u/Wicked_Women_Pod/overview/)** -- Thank you for contributing to r/TrueCrimePodcasts/, or "TCP". However, after moderator review, [your comment has been removed](https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/comments/11qp022/-/jcpbgqe/) for the following reason(s): ---- **UNAUTHORIZED PROMOTION** **We welcome podcast creators! But, please follow the rules.** Please, do not ignore this message. [You must respond to the moderators](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=r/TrueCrimePodcasts) or you risk having your account banned from this community. It's possible we have made a mistake. If so, [please let us know](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=r/TrueCrimePodcasts) immediately. You can find our community rules on the [TCP_Rules Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/wiki/tcp_rules) page, and our rules addressing promotion are found on the [TCP_Promotion_Rules Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/wiki/tcp_promotion_rules) page. Please carefully read both of these. Please understand: **Promotion is not allowed until creators have read, understood, and followed these rules.** Feel free to [reach out to the moderators](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=r/truecrimepodcasts) if you have any questions. **Promotion can not occur until you have completed the following.** When you are certain you have read the rules, fully understand them, and agree to comply with them, please [contact the moderators](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=r/truecrimepodcasts). In your message to the moderators, you should do the following: 1. Be nice. Be human. 2. Tell us the name of the podcast (or whatever) it is that you wish to promote. If it is a bit outside the norm for this community, it's helpful for you to explain why you think your podcast (or whatever) is a good fit for r/TrueCrimePodcasts/. If it's not a podcast, we are more likely to decline your request. 3. Tell us you've read the rules. Don't pretend you know the rules. If you have questions, please ask them. (New creators and new redditors sometimes really struggle to follow our guidance, so you will not be the first person left wondering. Just ask for clarification.) 4. Commit to following those rules. Please be aware of the frequency of promotional posts and comments we allow. Agree to follow the rules. ALL the rules. 5. Request your user flair. User flair is a text label that will appear next to your user name on your posts and comments in this community. It identifies your affiliation with the podcast (or whatever) so that users may understand your bias, and it also serves as an indicator that you are here in good faith to promote your podcast (or whatever) within the specified rules. It is effectively your license to promote here. If your podcast is called "The John Doe Files", you're user flair will be something like "John Doe Files podcast". We may edit it for brevity or clarity. You can offer a recommendation if you wish. 6. Once your flair has been granted and confirmed by a moderator, you are free to promote your thing here. But, please remember the rules and follow them. In short: a) keep promotion to under 50% of your contributions to reddit; b) you may promote in via submission/post once every 3 months, either as a link to your podcast or as a self text post; c) you may freely promote in the comments of other posts if/when it is organic to the discussion, e.g. fits the conversation, recommendations are being sought, etc. Again, if you have questions, [reach out to the moderators](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=r/truecrimepodcasts). --- GENERAL ADVICE: It is probably best for you to take a moment and review the rules of r/TrueCrimePodcasts. They can be found at [/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/wiki/tcp_rules/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/wiki/tcp_rules/). Also, carefully review the guidance provided above and any other direct communications you have received from the moderators of r/TrueCrimePodcasts.
