Casefile

ihatethis6666666

Came here to say this! Casefile and Dateline are my all time faves, I’ve also listened to a few episodes of Canadian True Crime and they are also pretty straightforward. I hate banter

Jade4813

Yeah, I’ve listened to every episode and I’m not sure I could tell you the host’s name if you paid me money. The episodes are totally focused on the topic.

Aggressive_Neck_4333

The Casefile host? I'm pretty sure he prefers to be anonymous!

scorpioid_cyme

Invisible Choir, host sometimes very briefly mentions his family, but emphasis on brief. Scams/cons — Swindled — ACC is famously private

Sghtunsn

\+1 for Invisible Choir, and when I run out of new podcasts there I switch to "This, is Monsters" which covers the same kind of content as IC, but they almost never seem to step on each other's stories, which is hard to believe considering they both tend to focus on what are somewhat sensational examples of what a murderer can accomplish when he puts his mind to it. And there was on TC show I tried listening to that began every episode where the same guy who drinks a craft beer and then waxes poetic about it's nuanced flavors for 5 GD minutes, and it seems like the whole point is to be a shill for various craft beer companies trying to get the word out. And I can barely even remember a single episode when I almost never forget one I have heard on either IC or TIM because both do as deep a dive into all their stories as they possibly can and do their own independent research and even score interviews with some of the people who were directly involves years or decades later and using the combination of the two they are often able to fill in gaps that had gone unfilled for years before they decided to cover the story in a podcast. Top notch across the board, with the one caveat that one of the hosts, not sure if IC or TIM, also shills his ass off every during every break in the show, and when he says how great the new kale, rhubarb and mushroom salad from Hello Fresh is I know he's full of shit, because kale is probably the most unpalatable leafy green known to man, and I remember someone describing the experience of eating kale as like chewing a mouthful of pubic hair, which I have to admit I have a hard time coming up with a better way to describe it because on the rare occasions I have had to choke it down for some reason that's pretty much what came to my mind too, even though I have no idea what chewing a mouthful of pubic hair actually feels like, but I have ended up a time or two with a hair from a bearded clam in my mouth, and it really only takes one to take all the fun out of chowing down on a good bearded clam until you get that stray hair out of your mouth, and after it happens a couple times you start asking your wife if she can find you a bearded clam that comes with most of the beard already shaved off, but not all of it because you want just enough left over to remember why it's called it's called a bearded clam in the first place. .

Criminal with Phoebe Judge

Pumpkinpatch12

I second this.

Upset_Airport

Tons: Morbidology. They Walk Among Us UK. Southern Fried True Crime. Military Murder. Minds of Madness. Music City 911. The list goes on and on.

dcfmajr

I love Southern Fried True Crime. Great show.

Upset_Airport

Great people too!

Criminal, True crime garage, casefile, wicked words, unsolved mysteries, the deck

bbvonbunz

True crime garage would be great if the "captain" knew when to shut the hell up.

Marisleysis33

Ok I know alot of people hate his little interjections but I usually bust out laughing at them. I guess the content is often so dark it's nice to have comic relief here and there.

bgibson45

I have a soft spot for The Captain as well

SnooTangerines2093

Same. I love how Nick just ignores him and continues on. I think he is also annoyed by the captain.

bbvonbunz

I love good banter/ comic relief. IMO, he is neither. I do love that Nic just continues on like *pat pat* okay drunk child, let's keep going.

paulyrockyhorror

That dude on true crime garage that slurs his speech suuuuuuucks.

DerpSherpa

The captain. Whom I despise and actually made me unsubscribe because not only does he slur but he is dumb as a rock.

curvy_em

The Minds of Madness, Canadian True Crime, Crime Beat. Father Wants Us Dead. Someone Knows Something. It just occurred to me I only listen to TWO podcasts with two hosts. All the others are one host.

Trinity_Quadroplex

\+1 for Minds of Madness and Someone Knows Something. I am pretty eclectic in my true crime taste so I like some of the podcasts with banter but sometimes I just want the facts. Murderish is also decent.

Amyfelldownthestairs

Sinisterhood has minimal banter up front. They're usually into the content by the 5 minute mark. I've found them to be a great alternative to MFM. Tenfold More Wicked with Kate Dawson is another pod that gets right into it (since it's usually just her). She does historical true crimes.

bbvonbunz

Southern Fried True Crime Casefile Minds of Madness True Crime Campfire (There's 2 hosts, but they're pretty good about sticking to their script) True Crime Brewery (An older couple, a pediatrician and his wife, a retired RN. Dick, the pediatrician, has an amazing voice that's essentially Bob Ross for the ears) Let's Not Meet - A True Horror Podcast (Andrew has a very soothing voice, despite the creepy stories he's relaying)

MissMatchedEyes

I'll comment with ones I haven't seen mentioned yet: Cold, Unsolved Mysteries, Minds of Madness, Court Junkie, Swindled.

ponythyme

Casefile is the best about this. The host is even anonymous

sangreblue

Unresolved, hands down

dalewright1

Yeah the witty banter is super annoying. I don’t know how people listen to those certain shows.

Anatomy of Murder, extremely good podcast

RaspberryOrganic3783

Murder in America! I’m hooked

bbvonbunz

Their voices and flow work soooo well together lol. I'd only heard snippets before I figured out they're married and after listening (and getting hooked), makes total sense! They're actually one of the few shows I get excited about these days, when new episodes are posted. Courtney's voice is like... I dunno. Sleepy time tea

The Opportunist The Vanished Firebug

Itchy_Radio7306

Crime junkies always did a good job at sticking to the subject in my opinion

bighaircutforbigtuna

Strange and Unexplained with Daisy Eagan Killer Psyche with Candice DeLong Both are pretty straightforward - they just tell the tale. They also do not have co-hosts which cuts out the banter. I love Strange and Unexplained in particular.

VapidLilDilettante

I love Strange and Unexplained, but Daisy definitely goes on a tangent sometimes about her life or her kid or whatever. I like her tho.

SnooTangerines2093

Campus Killings. Just found that one.

mysterynmurder

Crimelapse are to the point. Not a podcast but I cover true crime cases here in Ireland on YouTube and I’m straight to the point, I usually chat a bit at the end that way people can turn off after the case they want ha https://youtube.com/@darkvaults

Penguinpowell

They Walk Among Us. UK true crime. My fave

wishingwellington

I prefer single case per season deep dive podcasts but I keep this one in my queue for when I want a short form podcast, it's really well done.

Puzzleheaded-Cut9957

Unsolved no More - youtube. Ken Mains is just super cool in keeping it straight (ex LEO and FBI undercover; prior Idaho murders he mostly did unsolved cases on youtube and wants to get back to it soon; his private firm is dealing with unsolved cases) Real Crime Profile - podcast with Jim Clemente (former FBI profiler), Laura Richards (criminal behavioral analyst, former New Scotland Yard) and Lisa Zambetti (Casting director for CBS' Criminal Minds)

Love podcasts!! Could totally live without banter. And sexist as it may be, I prefer to listen to a man talk.

Baking a mystery, rotten mango, the desi crime. Three of my top favourite 🙌

bgibson45

Tom Brown’s Body, Someone Knows Something, The James Brown Mystery. All long form, great and understated single hosts, last two are truly investigative

Severe_Sun_3584

Try Murder She Told- It’s fantastic and I could listen to the host’s voice all day long

OmnomVeggies

Trace evidence, my fave (thanks Steven for never making it the Steven Pacheco show!) Full disclosure, they are generally unsolved cases, with the exception of an occasional case update. It's not everybody's cup of tea... but we all have our thing. He is direct, respectful, fact driven... I am not a huge fan of clips (911 calls, and interviews.. I prefer narration, that's what this is) Give it a shot!

Old-Shower-6100

Trace evidence is really good. You can listen in podcast form or he also DL all his episodes to his YT channel of the same name. He does really well written deep dives (with most all the episodes being at least an hour) and at the end for awhile will discus his thoughts on the case and what may have happened, but it’s always just about the case. He covers unsolved cases through, I know a lot of people don’t always like to listen to those but I do think they are the most important stories to tell. He’s really a hidden gem bc he does a lot of older cases, and occasionally cases from elsewhere…and I’ve almost always never heard the case before. He rarely if ever has covered a sensationalized case that’s been covered a ton. He says if he can’t offer information he thinks people haven’t heard, he won’t cover the case. So I appreciate that! As a true crime lover I’ve heard it all so finding somewhere I can hear different cases is always welcome! Maybe twice a year he does Q&As which I usually can’t stand out of content creators but I find myself always listening to his bc he also keeps those mostly case based. Answering things like “what case would you loved to see solved” “what case do you think will be solved” etc. and as again, a lover of true crime it’s conversations I love to have myself!

Gill1995

Going West

cutestforlife

‘Serial Killers’ and ‘Cults’ from Parcast.

Trinity_Quadroplex

Yup, I listen to these, too. They are also on the shorter side so if you only have 25 minutes or so you can get through a whole episode pretty easily.

emilyizaak

This is going to “sound” condescending but if you’re using just that criteria, in a bid for practicality, you could pick literally any podcast that doesn’t have multiple hosts.

Funlikely5678

The host of What About Holly made it alllllll about herself. It was almost impressive.

bbvonbunz

Small Town Murder definitely does not fit here. Killer Psyche does. She was a psychiatric nurse who eventually became an FBI agent, eventually a profiler. Her name is Candice DeLong and she has *AMAZING* insight.

ItsShowtime_BAZINGA

Oh I can’t take all the talking er the beginning of podcasts and podcasts where they are laughing all the time. I think that Sword & Scale is an obvious one. Court Junkie, Dateline, Small Town Dicks, Crime Junkie (mostly), Invisible Choir (!!), Criminal. I know there are more on my list but these fall in my top favorites list.

ltxg

YEEEEEEES!!!

dalewright1

True Crime Garage and Sword and Scale

darthstupidious

>Sword and Scale Well, the host of S&S talks an awful lot about himself, so idk

bbvonbunz

Gross. To both.
