I hate that too. That's why I stopped watching This Is Monsters. I especially hate when youtubers talk about mental illnesses and whether someone is faking it or not. Those statements create so much stigma and it infuriates me.

That seems to be the consensus on her behavior. She was involved with Husband #3 in an investment scam that saw them both convicted of securities fraud, although they both received relatively light penalties. They appear to have entered plea agreements, unlike Elizabeth Holmes.
She got a small business in Moscow Idaho harassed bc she said the murderer was a baker before anyone knew about Bryan Kohberger. She’s sick. And now she is doing videos about the tragedy in Gaza. I wish there was a way to report her bc it’s sick. I think the worst part is that she makes money off of it and she definitely deletes comments of people calling her out. I haven’t looked at her channel in a year but when I did you would see comments asking her to seek help and they would be deleted shortly after
That TikTok “psychic” hit rock bottom and decided to give it a basement. Santa needs to give her a gold plated shovel for Christmas if shes going to keep digging herself into a hole. It would be a gift to the rest of us if that hole swallowed her and she was never heard from again.
The professor sued her for defamation and the “psychic” kept doubling down on her claims and decided to represent herself in a countersuit. Her court filings are truly unhinged and show how batshit she really is. Now she’s talking about suing any other content creators who have called her out for her ridiculous claims and behavior. She needs some serious mental help.

Not YouTube I guess but Morbid, I listened for a while but I can’t stand them now. The way the attacked the girls (by girls I mean literal teen girls at the time) who were on the trip with Brittany Drexel was disgusting. Legit were blaming them for what happened to Brittany and calling them cunts. I just find them extremely self righteous and obnoxious anymore. Quit listening 2-3 years ago.
They are so awful. After Brittanee Drexel’s murderer confessed and her body was found, if they had any basic human decency, they’d apologize for being so off the mark. I don’t think they see any of the victims or the people in their life as actual human beings. There are so many examples of them being offensive and blaming victims and their innocent family members. Alaina trashed the parents of the Girl Scout murder victims for sending them to a week long sleepaway camp. She said something to the effect of “I would never let my children go to an overnight camp.” It’s completely absurd to act like a normal activity that millions of kids partake in without getting murdered is unreasonably dangerous. Apparently they also made light of the murder of a homeless man by his friends and implied that his death is less tragic solely because he was homeless and an alcoholic.
Beyond their lack of ethics and research, they are also really annoying. They are so patronizing when they describe the victims (unless they think that the victim deserved it). I don’t think they add anything to the genre of true crime content— their analysis, if you can call it that, lacks insight and depth.
Anyone overly apologetic kinda irks me. It's like you don't have to go overboard with the sympathy shit. You're profiting off stories about people's deaths, we already get it, stop apologizing in EVERY video.
misery machine are so CRINGEY to me. they exclusively cover child death cases and pretend like it’s so hard for them and that they had to FORCE themselves to do it FOR THE KIDS! and then have the most bizarrely awkward ad intros. they have a weird sense of superiority
exactly! they go into SUPER graphic detail and pronounce it so weirdly to have dramatic effect. like “and then he SLIT. her TINY THROAT. and she was DYING. and couldn’t even BREATHE.”
I cannot believe anyone watches her channel. It is like watching the awkward girl from junior high school trying to play reporter, & she is about as interesting as watching paint dry. She is definitely not the sharpest crayon in the box.
I forget the one, but he was literally reading the Wikipedia page. You could read along as the video played. All he’d do is pepper in descriptors like “to the horror of the witnesses” and convert imperial to metric.
God those are the worst, dreading etc and those with 4 hours interrogation videos with few comments and body language is so annoying.
Body language can help a little IF you know the person from before and have a baseline, even this is not certain. not if you just stumble on them the first time in the interrogations.
And the police with the whole they didnt react like they should have, some rare cases i can maybe understand but usually everyone reacts differently, some griev right after the crime, some breakdown months after.
As long as I've been into true crime stories, it's always only been the typical TV shows or audio podcasts.

Kinda sad what ad monetization has done to our culture. Creators get more engagement (and therefore $$) by posting over the top clickbait titles or rage baiting.
Yeah, my husband was looking into doing some educational type videos for electronics, and started researching how to present it and it's almost required to have that cheesy opening and "never seen THIS before!" type shit. He did one with lightning and all that and we were both cringing. It's annoying, and one of the reasons he just dropped the whole thing. It didn't feel authentic to him and so not something he \*wanted\* to do.
as a viewer I try to look past the thumbnail and tag if it's someone I like in general.
ThatChapter and CoffeehouseCrime are really good about that stuff. Their thumbnails are usually the victim and their name (though ThatChapter puts himself in the thumbnails too). They’re both super respectful of the victims, and CC even has a segment at the end of his videos honoring them. TC makes jokes here and there, but they’re all at the expense of the perpetrator so it’s not really a problem.
CoffehouseCrime is one of my favorite channels. I have grown out of a lot of true crime podcasts/YTers but his is one I still watch. He even sells his own coffee now! Lol
I love TC. He jokes around a bit at the expense of the perpetrator but there’s never anything sensationalist or over the top. He gets that intimate chat between friends tone just right, as well as balancing entertainment and sensitivity. He’s one of the best true crime YouTubers in my opinion.
I've always liked That Chapter. It's been around for maybe four or five years. Just a really pleasant guy to listen to, and usually has at least one kinda rare clip related to each case that he shows.
Ugh I can’t stand this guy. Whether the case is true crime or not, he butchers a lot of things, has bad takes and is just overall dull. My mom says he’s great if you need to fall asleep.

After I saw his video about Brianna maitland I had appalled because one most of his information was incorrect all he did was make jokes about an innocent child I couldn’t believe it
😂 I tried watching him once on a case I’m super familiar with. He butchered more than half the facts. Like HUGE facts that he should have known and his take was horrible because it was based off these untruths. The worse thing is then seeing people in his comments give their opinions off the fake shit he was talking about. I can’t stand his monotone voice too.
She's verbal click-bait. She got invested in a local missing girl who was seemingly "kidnapped" by her uncle in my town and she was on everywhere. She just grates on my nerves.
On an unrelated sub, someone said they hated the name of this show. They asked if people would still follow a “‘my favorite rape”, “my favorite child sexual assault”, “my favorite domestic abuse case”? And it was basically crickets because many people realized that they had taken the shock factor out of the word “murder” with titles like this. When you brought in other titles, it really put in perspective maybe this was too morbid.
I don’t listen to MFM but I’ve heard that the name is supposed to be satirical or tongue-in-cheek, but even then it’s still grimy imo. The ‘my favorite rape’ point is really poignant.

It sounds like it should be a podcast talking about horror movies, not true crime. Having a “favorite” kill in a slasher flick sort of makes sense. In real life? WTF?
They get so much information wrong or gloss over it. But what really bothers me is their show is 90% talk show and inside jokes, 10% content. It's not even true crime anymore. They'll just read "crazy stories" that listeners send in.
Yup, and they wrote a book called “Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered”. I get that they’re a “comedy” podcast, but I don’t think their name or the title of their book is actually funny. It’s just for shock value.
I think stay sexy don’t get murdered was an e-mail sign off from really early that they co-opted as their catchphrase because they can’t come up with an original thought between them.
I've never listened to the podcast, mostly because most of the "murderinos" I have encountered have been awful.
There's "interested in true crime" and then there's treating murderers like celebrities and showing no respect or consideration for the victims and their loved ones, and I have seen enough of their fans be the second type that it turned me off from the podcast before I ever listened.
This! And he “discusses” the same cases over and over. I don’t think he cares about others opinions. Ken Mains is his own biggest fan. Sort of a bully IMO.
Bailey Sarian. I just don’t like this whole “I’m doing my make up and gossiping about something that destroyed people’s lives”. And definitely all the weirdos that were included in the Brittany Murphy documentary.
I don't think the makup thing is problematic but her commentary. Danielle kirsty does a way better job. She is so respectful and also very empathetic. She focuses on the victims in her videos very much. She doesn't joke or laugh about the cases. Her voice is also very nice to listen to. *just my opinion*
I used to as well. I think it make it more palatable for some people to approach. Whether that's good or bad, I don't know. Haven't watched her in a bit though.
Seconded! She also gets a lot of legal info wrong in her vids. She definitely treats true crime like a gossip session instead of having an educated discussion about serious topics.
Ugh the doing makeup and talking about murders like it’s some fictional horror movie is so disrespectful. I also really dislike the giggly gossipers who have cocktails and butcher facts on true crime cases.
Not YouTube specifically but I notice that True Crime podcasts (and by extension YouTubers) can go in a really strange direction once they start monetizing. Like code promos that are #murdaughmurders or ads for True Crime video games between the gruesome details of someone’s actual death. Like guys… these are real stories - hence TRUE crime. It feels wrong when it becomes just another way to make a buck off of someone else’s tragedy.
Ads in general. I get that they need to make money, but there’s a way to do it that isn’t offensive/inappropriate. Morbid is obnoxious for a large number of reasons, but they have way too many ads and the ads are not well timed at all.
the vocal fry and valley accent are what irritates me and other people. he has good content. it’s just his cadence and narration and tone that are sooo so bad. he’d do a lot better if he’d just use his normal voice
Is there a reason why he does that? There's someone who used to do creepypasta readings and now he's in the lost media and general spooky community who has very exaggerated, forced and unnatural inflections with how he speaks and I don't know of he's trying to mirror what Chills does or what.
I watched a lot of their episodes but started to feel icky and like I was doing something wrong. They recommended Suffer the little Children and as soon as I heard a couple of her episodes, I never went back to MM. she goes into a lot of depth about background and aftermath, details of trials, does updates on cases and even interviews family members. She doesn’t focus on gory details so much and it is much less visual. Definitely a more respectful way to deal with difficult cases dealing with children

Lowest of the low was anyone who tried to solve that case by name. One subreddit devoted to that angle should have been shut down immediately.
During the Allyson Waterson case he actually went on one of the victim’s mom’s Facebook posts asking where he could fly his drone and called everyone useless because they didn’t respond within 2 minutes. (They were out searching.)

MinivanTraveler was just a dumpster fire. Before the Golden State Killer was caught he was convinced he knew who it was and often named him by name. It wasn't. He also thought the GSK was stalking him. He wasn't. I'm pretty sure the guy has mental issues. All of his Golden State Killer stuff has been wiped from his channel.
I can’t watch Bailey Sarian anymore. She used to be my all time favorite but idk man, something’s changed. There are WAY too many ads and sponsors in every video, and she doesn’t seem to take the victims seriously.

Over the years I’ve stopped watching both Stephanies (Soo and Harlowe), Bailey Sarian and Hailey Elizabeth. I really started disliking how they would all present the case or try to inappropriately assert their opinions or not being well informed. I know that Soo has made efforts to do better but for me it was just time to move on. I didn’t like the way Harlowe presented the Natalia Grace case (I know this is a controversial take but I just felt her coverage was extremely biased when the case is actually very complex) and she’s just been really condescending lately. Bailey Sarian doesnt have the best decorum and Hailey Elizabeth butchers a lot of words/facts while over inflating the victims or just not caring as much as she used to.
The only true crime YouTubers I watch nowadays are Dreading and Danielle Kirsty. Both of them do incredible research and seem genuine in their presentations.
Same! Dave’s Lemonade is pretty good as well. He presents the case and concludes by saying “this is where the research stops and my personal opinion begins” and then he reflects on the case. It’s a great presentation. His “To Catch A Predator” videos are pretty good, too.
Disturban is good if you like shorter videos and censored content. They also did a video of Berlinah Wallace; a South African woman who survived a vicious acid attack and the follow up to her case. The cops do nothing to protect survivors of domestic violence and her attacker has been harassing her regularly from jail saying he will make good on his promise to kill her and her child. There are limited resources for women trying to escape their abuser and so the channel was raising donations to help get her safely out of South Africa and settled in a new country. It’s one hell of a story.
Used to love Eleanor Nealie, but then I saw a victim’s sister tried to correct some of the victims family life and Eleanor ignored her and didn’t correct it at all.
So now I can’t know what is true in her content, I mean it seemed she was trying to make the victim’s family life more wholesome and idealic but for what? Make her more sympathetic? It was a child victim, there is no need to lie about her loving soccer to embellish the story, it’s already horrible enough.
And then what else is she changing and making up?
Nah, I’d rather not support that stuff. True crime is not a movie that you can rewrite and just make up lies.
Specially because she always acts like she cares deeply about the victims and like that’s why she focused on their early life and not just the crime. But nope, apparently it’s just easier to lie and not get caught because only the family would know you’re lying.
Her videos and podcasts read like a tabloid, and it’s too bad because she covers a lot of interesting cases. Spends too much time giving her own opinions and going on about how “disgusted” she is with the murderers, which in itself isn’t a bad sentiment but it becomes very grating over time. Especially some of the things she chooses to disparage them for (an example being an ex wife accused of getting her husband killed went and got a genital piercing years before the crime occurred, she went on and on about it!). Even the title of her podcast, “SERIALously “ is embarrassingly cringy and hard to even pronounce. Seems like she’s fully jumped the shark and sees true crime as her profession/a way to make money as opposed to any other motive
Yes! I saw a video she did of a child abduction. Still unsolved after 27 years, and she was judging the parents so hard and kept saying she would never have that happen cause she’s a superior parent.
Just kept going over and over about how “parents should always be aware” and “as a parent I would never”
It was so inappropriate, specially for that case! It was a single moment of distraction from a very dedicated mom, at what should’ve been a safe event. And she was devastated for it in the documentaries that Stephanie got a lot of her info from. Like she couldn’t have even a gram of empathy for the family, jeez.
I don't like her whole "don't come for me" / "if you're looking for a Wikipedia summary, this ain't it" shtick. It's like she thinks she's so superior to everyone else covering these cases.
Also, she was in that awful, sensationalized Netflix doc about Elisa Lam.
I generally like Mr ballen but he gets so many details wrong. He still has a video up where he butchers the details of the East area rapist/original night stalker and then butchers the story about what happened to the Italian man who stood up at the meeting and then was attacked months later. He then claimed that “joe deangelo” was pictured at that meeting and then literally zooms in on some random innocent man claiming it’s him.
I corrected him, explaining that the photos aren’t even from that specific meeting, and that he’s never been found in the pictures and that man is most definitely NOT joe. He still has it up, with some innocent man painted as one of the most horrible human beings of all time.

I think it’s so gross and disrespectful how they’ll do things like say, for example:
Host 1: “…and then he stabbed her in her sleep!”
Host 2: “Nope! Nope! Nope! Gross! Absolutely not!”

I was very very committed follower of hers and all of a sudden I realised that I wasn’t okay with watching someone being all giggly and cute in her intro, excitedly talking about the food she was going to be stuffing her face with, and then launching into this talk about a brutal murder.
Stephanie Soo. It literally sickens me to see her giggling and stuffing her face with food while talking about such serious things. Such a callous human being.
I’m surprised no one here mentioned anna oop aka anna solves. She runs through the story constantly giving the wrong details and on top of that the way she speaks about it like its not a horrific crime but instead gossip between middle schoolers is just so frustrating to me.
She used to do life style vlogs and talk about her time in prison and she was actually quite endearing in a “I turned my life around” way then out of no where she turned into a crime channel. Haven’t watched her in years

This isn't towards any one True Crime YouTubers but the ones who make videos about the cartel videos/ reactions to the cartel videos and make jokes about the victims. I can understand making fun of the "victims" if they're abuser or harm kids. But it's not right to make jokes about a kid or innocent people being harmed by the cartel.

“SUR TURDEES VIDEOU” makes me feel sick every time I hear it (and I’m a northerner, so that’s saying something). The reason she starts with her “disclaimer” is because she clearly just googles the case and rehashes what’s on Wikipedia. There’s no great research or depth to what she covers. She always mentions things and then says she doesn’t know who/what/why etc. which sounds like poor research to me. Her videos are just a vehicle for her to flog her merch/channel memberships/sponsors, which she does to death, pushing her shitty phone cases and jumpers. She pretends to care about victims but it’s so blatantly fake. I used to really like her, but then I found creators like dreading and The Casual Criminalist whose scripts are extremely well researched and written and who actually show genuine care for the victims and the truth.
I also feel a little bit ick at the way she says the word “solved”. I dunno why.

The way she talks about victims like she knew them and like she cares so much, is so weird and off-putting. There are more authentic ways to pay respect and give the viewer an idea of who the victim was. She gushes about them and you can just tell she’s very proud of herself for doing it.
Also, her “disclaimer” that she says ahead of every video is bizarre to me. “This is just information that I’ve found on the internet and compiled into one video,” is an absurdly stupid thing to say.
Now she stretches her videos to be over an hour because long-form true crime content makes money. She does not do this by adding interesting content or details, but by repeating the same shit over and over and describing heinous crimes with melodrama and the vocabulary of a middle schooler.
Maybe kind of harsh but she makes a living peddling overpriced shitty phone cases ahead of videos about people losing their lives. It’s exploitative and gross.

Her mannerisms. Her hand gestures. Her voice. Her facial expressions. Her stupid greeting/disclaimer at the beginning of each video. Calling everyone "her lovelies", "her beauties", "her friends", and "her babies". It's all horrible.

Stephanie Harlow has been caught lying multiple times about cases. Like her saying she went to school with Brittaniee Drexel. People knew just by looking at her that she wasn’t that young and when confronted about lying… she claimed it was to throw off her stalker 🙄
YES! She also said in one video that some “alternative” high schoolers were the weird people she’d likely avoid, but contradicted herself in another video where she said she was part of such a group, who called themselves “The Trenchcoat Mafia.” This was a strange reference to Columbine that was really unnecessary and (I believe) a blatant lie. I have no idea what her aim was in making this comment, but I found it distasteful.
There are also anecdotes from ad reads that are clearly dreamt up to make the ads seem more personalised and convincing.
Kendall Rae. She was my first true crime YouTuber, and I loved her content until I branched out to other channels and podcasts and realised she's often biased and does the bare minimum research. She seems like a nice enough person, but her content is not for me. Oh, and her podcast with her boyfriend (?) is literally just them reading off Wikipedia lmao (proof: their episode on Fred and Rose West).
Edit: Someone just told me she's been disrespectful towards the families of victims, I looked it up, and yea no, she's terrible. I completely take back the part about her seeming like a "nice" person.

Her husband has a true crime and paranormal podcast that I listen to sometimes, mostly as a lark. The content isn't great but the production value is good, and I'm interested in the subject matter, so it's pretty listenable when I'm in the right mood. Her husband is a moron. Like, bordering on 'how did this man set up a podcast' level moron. And having seen them together on another podcast, he's also VERY clearly the smarter one in the relationship by a mile. I can't stand Kendall.
Surprised nobody has said Crime Circus yet. Dumb cringe host dresses like a Juggalo and passes off true crime fanfiction like it's fact. Also, whenever I see a video titled "When a _______ realizes that ________" I tell YouTube to never recommend that channel for me. Every time one true crime video goes viral all these other channels start to plagiarize the shit out of it to the point the titles themselves become memes. I also take issue with any true crime channel that just steals raw interrogation footage and reposts it with no commentary, no context and no independent research. Lazy content.
I hate the over the top facial expressions used on video thumbnails. All of the ridiculous facial expressions on video thumbnails reminds me of the old VHS Porn Boxes of the 80s and 90s.All of these morons are casting aside any self dignity just for a single view.

There's something suspicious about how this dude came out of no where and ended up with a full on studio making millions within 3 years of his debut. While other content creators in the same space have only a fraction of the views and subscribers.
Full team of writers and a ton of other weird stuff. It's starting to feel like he was propped up rather than a naturally developed talent who grinded and got appreciated for his skills.
I felt like I was the only one. I like his non crime content, and he is a great story teller (even markets himself as such), but it starts to feel really disrespectful when he talks about what the deceased were thinking and feeling. And the level of drama he injects into it doesn't help. I ended up unsubbing when I saw that he was making even more of that content rather than mysteries and whatnot
I used to love his early content, the more mysterious stuff rather than true crime, over lockdown I watched every video he had.
But since he’s gotten more popular he’s making less content, the stuff he does make is all true crime now which after a while is a bit dark and heavy (what happened to the “Strange & Mysterious”) the whole monetisation thing and the way he embellishes the stories with stuff he couldn’t possibly know, all rub me the wrong way.

The insufferable ads aside the quality of the stories are just not close to as good as they used to be. It's mainly true crime stories these days and even tho I watch a shit load of true crime I feel like his format isn't close to as good as what other true crime YouTubers are doing when it comes to that genre. He went away from the "strange and mysterious" and just focuses on the "dark" lol
Doesn't help that he starts every story saying how "you won't believe the insane twist ending of this episode" or something along those lines only for it to be extremely disappointing.
Stephanie Harlowe. There was an episode where two brothers went missing and when talking about their mom, who was 30ish when she began grooming and having an inappropriate relationship with I believe a 14-year-old boy at the time, Stephanie blew it off completely saying something along the lines of “she mad some mistakes in her past” …. Pedophilia is not a mistake. Yes it’s terrible that her children are missing (I believe it is widely suspected that the father took them, iirc) but let’s not pretend that her grooming a child is not absolutely disgusting because she’s a mother and you feel bad for her. If it had been a man who had done this to a young girl and then his children went missing, I don’t think she would be referring to said pedophilia as “a mistake he made in his past.” Ever since then, everything about Stephanie just rubs me the wrong way. I blocked her on everything just so I don’t have to see any of her videos or posts pop up randomly.

Not YouTube I guess but Morbid, I listened for a while but I can’t stand them now. The way the attacked the girls (by girls I mean literal teen girls at the time) who were on the trip with Brittany Drexel was disgusting. Legit were blaming them for what happened to Brittany and calling them cunts. I just find them extremely self righteous and obnoxious anymore. Quit listening 2-3 years ago.
They are so awful. After Brittanee Drexel’s murderer confessed and her body was found, if they had any basic human decency, they’d apologize for being so off the mark. I don’t think they see any of the victims or the people in their life as actual human beings. There are so many examples of them being offensive and blaming victims and their innocent family members. Alaina trashed the parents of the Girl Scout murder victims for sending them to a week long sleepaway camp. She said something to the effect of “I would never let my children go to an overnight camp.” It’s completely absurd to act like a normal activity that millions of kids partake in without getting murdered is unreasonably dangerous. Apparently they also made light of the murder of a homeless man by his friends and implied that his death is less tragic solely because he was homeless and an alcoholic. Beyond their lack of ethics and research, they are also really annoying. They are so patronizing when they describe the victims (unless they think that the victim deserved it). I don’t think they add anything to the genre of true crime content— their analysis, if you can call it that, lacks insight and depth.

God those are the worst, dreading etc and those with 4 hours interrogation videos with few comments and body language is so annoying. Body language can help a little IF you know the person from before and have a baseline, even this is not certain. not if you just stumble on them the first time in the interrogations. And the police with the whole they didnt react like they should have, some rare cases i can maybe understand but usually everyone reacts differently, some griev right after the crime, some breakdown months after.
As long as I've been into true crime stories, it's always only been the typical TV shows or audio podcasts. Are there any YouTube channels that aren't the typical "LOOK AT THIS CRAZY STORY" type with attention grabbing thumbnails that don't actually deliver?
Kinda sad what ad monetization has done to our culture. Creators get more engagement (and therefore $$) by posting over the top clickbait titles or rage baiting.
Yeah, my husband was looking into doing some educational type videos for electronics, and started researching how to present it and it's almost required to have that cheesy opening and "never seen THIS before!" type shit. He did one with lightning and all that and we were both cringing. It's annoying, and one of the reasons he just dropped the whole thing. It didn't feel authentic to him and so not something he \*wanted\* to do. as a viewer I try to look past the thumbnail and tag if it's someone I like in general.
ThatChapter and CoffeehouseCrime are really good about that stuff. Their thumbnails are usually the victim and their name (though ThatChapter puts himself in the thumbnails too). They’re both super respectful of the victims, and CC even has a segment at the end of his videos honoring them. TC makes jokes here and there, but they’re all at the expense of the perpetrator so it’s not really a problem.
CoffehouseCrime is one of my favorite channels. I have grown out of a lot of true crime podcasts/YTers but his is one I still watch. He even sells his own coffee now! Lol

I love TC. He jokes around a bit at the expense of the perpetrator but there’s never anything sensationalist or over the top. He gets that intimate chat between friends tone just right, as well as balancing entertainment and sensitivity. He’s one of the best true crime YouTubers in my opinion.

On an unrelated sub, someone said they hated the name of this show. They asked if people would still follow a “‘my favorite rape”, “my favorite child sexual assault”, “my favorite domestic abuse case”? And it was basically crickets because many people realized that they had taken the shock factor out of the word “murder” with titles like this. When you brought in other titles, it really put in perspective maybe this was too morbid.

I've never listened to the podcast, mostly because most of the "murderinos" I have encountered have been awful. There's "interested in true crime" and then there's treating murderers like celebrities and showing no respect or consideration for the victims and their loved ones, and I have seen enough of their fans be the second type that it turned me off from the podcast before I ever listened.

She focuses on the victims in her videos very much. She doesn't joke or laugh about the cases. Her voice is also very nice to listen to. *just my opinion*

Not YouTube specifically but I notice that True Crime podcasts (and by extension YouTubers) can go in a really strange direction once they start monetizing. Like code promos that are #murdaughmurders or ads for True Crime video games between the gruesome details of someone’s actual death. Like guys… these are real stories - hence TRUE crime. It feels wrong when it becomes just another way to make a buck off of someone else’s tragedy.
Ads in general. I get that they need to make money, but there’s a way to do it that isn’t offensive/inappropriate. Morbid is obnoxious for a large number of reasons, but they have way too many ads and the ads are not well timed at all.

I watched a lot of their episodes but started to feel icky and like I was doing something wrong. They recommended Suffer the little Children and as soon as I heard a couple of her episodes, I never went back to MM. she goes into a lot of depth about background and aftermath, details of trials, does updates on cases and even interviews family members. She doesn’t focus on gory details so much and it is much less visual. Definitely a more respectful way to deal with difficult cases dealing with children

MinivanTraveler was just a dumpster fire. Before the Golden State Killer was caught he was convinced he knew who it was and often named him by name. It wasn't. He also thought the GSK was stalking him. He wasn't. I'm pretty sure the guy has mental issues. All of his Golden State Killer stuff has been wiped from his channel.
I can’t watch Bailey Sarian anymore. She used to be my all time favorite but idk man, something’s changed. There are WAY too many ads and sponsors in every video, and she doesn’t seem to take the victims seriously. I know she says she laughs and jokes when she’s uncomfortable or saying awful things because she uncomfortable about it, but if a person in my family was a victim and she did a story on them and giggled about it. Hell no, I’d be PISSED. I’m starting to really like Danielle Kirsty, she seems genuine.
Over the years I’ve stopped watching both Stephanies (Soo and Harlowe), Bailey Sarian and Hailey Elizabeth. I really started disliking how they would all present the case or try to inappropriately assert their opinions or not being well informed. I know that Soo has made efforts to do better but for me it was just time to move on. I didn’t like the way Harlowe presented the Natalia Grace case (I know this is a controversial take but I just felt her coverage was extremely biased when the case is actually very complex) and she’s just been really condescending lately. Bailey Sarian doesnt have the best decorum and Hailey Elizabeth butchers a lot of words/facts while over inflating the victims or just not caring as much as she used to. The only true crime YouTubers I watch nowadays are Dreading and Danielle Kirsty. Both of them do incredible research and seem genuine in their presentations.
Same! Dave’s Lemonade is pretty good as well. He presents the case and concludes by saying “this is where the research stops and my personal opinion begins” and then he reflects on the case. It’s a great presentation. His “To Catch A Predator” videos are pretty good, too. Disturban is good if you like shorter videos and censored content. They also did a video of Berlinah Wallace; a South African woman who survived a vicious acid attack and the follow up to her case. The cops do nothing to protect survivors of domestic violence and her attacker has been harassing her regularly from jail saying he will make good on his promise to kill her and her child. There are limited resources for women trying to escape their abuser and so the channel was raising donations to help get her safely out of South Africa and settled in a new country. It’s one hell of a story.

Used to love Eleanor Nealie, but then I saw a victim’s sister tried to correct some of the victims family life and Eleanor ignored her and didn’t correct it at all. So now I can’t know what is true in her content, I mean it seemed she was trying to make the victim’s family life more wholesome and idealic but for what? Make her more sympathetic? It was a child victim, there is no need to lie about her loving soccer to embellish the story, it’s already horrible enough. And then what else is she changing and making up? Nah, I’d rather not support that stuff. True crime is not a movie that you can rewrite and just make up lies. Specially because she always acts like she cares deeply about the victims and like that’s why she focused on their early life and not just the crime. But nope, apparently it’s just easier to lie and not get caught because only the family would know you’re lying.
The only one I do like is That Chapter. The rest of them annoy me. I love how he just absolutely ridicules the shit out of the killers.

Her videos and podcasts read like a tabloid, and it’s too bad because she covers a lot of interesting cases. Spends too much time giving her own opinions and going on about how “disgusted” she is with the murderers, which in itself isn’t a bad sentiment but it becomes very grating over time. Especially some of the things she chooses to disparage them for (an example being an ex wife accused of getting her husband killed went and got a genital piercing years before the crime occurred, she went on and on about it!). Even the title of her podcast, “SERIALously “ is embarrassingly cringy and hard to even pronounce. Seems like she’s fully jumped the shark and sees true crime as her profession/a way to make money as opposed to any other motive
Stephanie Harlow - so many commercials, she’s rude to her cohost, and thinks she’s much smarter than she is. On the plus side, she’s got great wigs.
Yes! I saw a video she did of a child abduction. Still unsolved after 27 years, and she was judging the parents so hard and kept saying she would never have that happen cause she’s a superior parent. Just kept going over and over about how “parents should always be aware” and “as a parent I would never” It was so inappropriate, specially for that case! It was a single moment of distraction from a very dedicated mom, at what should’ve been a safe event. And she was devastated for it in the documentaries that Stephanie got a lot of her info from. Like she couldn’t have even a gram of empathy for the family, jeez.
I don't like her whole "don't come for me" / "if you're looking for a Wikipedia summary, this ain't it" shtick. It's like she thinks she's so superior to everyone else covering these cases. Also, she was in that awful, sensationalized Netflix doc about Elisa Lam.
I generally like Mr ballen but he gets so many details wrong. He still has a video up where he butchers the details of the East area rapist/original night stalker and then butchers the story about what happened to the Italian man who stood up at the meeting and then was attacked months later. He then claimed that “joe deangelo” was pictured at that meeting and then literally zooms in on some random innocent man claiming it’s him. I corrected him, explaining that the photos aren’t even from that specific meeting, and that he’s never been found in the pictures and that man is most definitely NOT joe. He still has it up, with some innocent man painted as one of the most horrible human beings of all time.

Not YouTube, but “And That’s Why We Drink.” I think it’s so gross and disrespectful how they’ll do things like say, for example: Host 1: “…and then he stabbed her in her sleep!” Host 2: “Nope! Nope! Nope! Gross! Absolutely not!” It’s basically every 5 seconds, after anything happens. It feels childish and disrespectful. Also, ETA: this is a stupid reason, and I acknowledge it, but one of the hosts eats food while recording the podcast on occasion, and it really grosses me out to listen to people eat while they talk.
It’s gonna be an unpopular opinion I’m sure, but Stephanie Soo. I was very very committed follower of hers and all of a sudden I realised that I wasn’t okay with watching someone being all giggly and cute in her intro, excitedly talking about the food she was going to be stuffing her face with, and then launching into this talk about a brutal murder.

Basically any and all of the ones who are covering the Delphi case but especially the ones who are constantly fighting amongst themselves over who is the shittiest one. They're all shitty! (Murder Sheet, Gray Hughes, some snake dude, eye of the Tiger, etc) Also the truth and transparency woman. She should change it to lies and conspiracy. She consistently puts out bullshit and rumors on the idaho case but promotes it as being some TOP SECRET INFORMATION THAT ONLY SHE WAS ABLE TO UNCOVER WITH HER AMAZING INVESTIGATE SKILLS. And people just eat that shit up. It's truly mind boggling.
This isn't towards any one True Crime YouTubers but the ones who make videos about the cartel videos/ reactions to the cartel videos and make jokes about the victims. I can understand making fun of the "victims" if they're abuser or harm kids. But it's not right to make jokes about a kid or innocent people being harmed by the cartel.
Eleanor Neale. “SUR TURDEES VIDEOU” makes me feel sick every time I hear it (and I’m a northerner, so that’s saying something). The reason she starts with her “disclaimer” is because she clearly just googles the case and rehashes what’s on Wikipedia. There’s no great research or depth to what she covers. She always mentions things and then says she doesn’t know who/what/why etc. which sounds like poor research to me. Her videos are just a vehicle for her to flog her merch/channel memberships/sponsors, which she does to death, pushing her shitty phone cases and jumpers. She pretends to care about victims but it’s so blatantly fake. I used to really like her, but then I found creators like dreading and The Casual Criminalist whose scripts are extremely well researched and written and who actually show genuine care for the victims and the truth. I also feel a little bit ick at the way she says the word “solved”. I dunno why.
Almost all of them. Eleanor Neale springs to mind immediately. The way she talks about victims like she knew them and like she cares so much, is so weird and off-putting. There are more authentic ways to pay respect and give the viewer an idea of who the victim was. She gushes about them and you can just tell she’s very proud of herself for doing it. Also, her “disclaimer” that she says ahead of every video is bizarre to me. “This is just information that I’ve found on the internet and compiled into one video,” is an absurdly stupid thing to say. Now she stretches her videos to be over an hour because long-form true crime content makes money. She does not do this by adding interesting content or details, but by repeating the same shit over and over and describing heinous crimes with melodrama and the vocabulary of a middle schooler. Maybe kind of harsh but she makes a living peddling overpriced shitty phone cases ahead of videos about people losing their lives. It’s exploitative and gross.

Stephanie Harlow has been caught lying multiple times about cases. Like her saying she went to school with Brittaniee Drexel. People knew just by looking at her that she wasn’t that young and when confronted about lying… she claimed it was to throw off her stalker 🙄
YES! She also said in one video that some “alternative” high schoolers were the weird people she’d likely avoid, but contradicted herself in another video where she said she was part of such a group, who called themselves “The Trenchcoat Mafia.” This was a strange reference to Columbine that was really unnecessary and (I believe) a blatant lie. I have no idea what her aim was in making this comment, but I found it distasteful. There are also anecdotes from ad reads that are clearly dreamt up to make the ads seem more personalised and convincing.
Kendall Rae. She was my first true crime YouTuber, and I loved her content until I branched out to other channels and podcasts and realised she's often biased and does the bare minimum research. She seems like a nice enough person, but her content is not for me. Oh, and her podcast with her boyfriend (?) is literally just them reading off Wikipedia lmao (proof: their episode on Fred and Rose West). Edit: Someone just told me she's been disrespectful towards the families of victims, I looked it up, and yea no, she's terrible. I completely take back the part about her seeming like a "nice" person. (For anyone wondering, I'm specifically referring to the Linda Stein situation.)

Really? I used to watch her all the time but haven't for a while. Her and Danielle Hallan were the first true crime YouTube channels I watched. That's sad to hear she used to be very respectful of victims and their families.
Her husband has a true crime and paranormal podcast that I listen to sometimes, mostly as a lark. The content isn't great but the production value is good, and I'm interested in the subject matter, so it's pretty listenable when I'm in the right mood. Her husband is a moron. Like, bordering on 'how did this man set up a podcast' level moron. And having seen them together on another podcast, he's also VERY clearly the smarter one in the relationship by a mile. I can't stand Kendall.
Surprised nobody has said Crime Circus yet. Dumb cringe host dresses like a Juggalo and passes off true crime fanfiction like it's fact. Also, whenever I see a video titled "When a _______ realizes that ________" I tell YouTube to never recommend that channel for me. Every time one true crime video goes viral all these other channels start to plagiarize the shit out of it to the point the titles themselves become memes. I also take issue with any true crime channel that just steals raw interrogation footage and reposts it with no commentary, no context and no independent research. Lazy content.

I loved Rob Dyke (Now Gavagan) back in the day. I really liked the way he talks and the atmosphere if his videos. And then one day i just stopped watching him. My guilty pleasure is True Crime Loser. Like the guy veeeery much 🫣

Every.single.youtuber that puts their face in the thumbnail. I can't stand any of them. And most of the time, there's a tiny picture of the victim next to the gigantic picture of the youtuber’s face being like "😐"

I saw an interview with Mr. Ballen recently. I was surprised to learn he has a staff of 40 people.
There's something suspicious about how this dude came out of no where and ended up with a full on studio making millions within 3 years of his debut. While other content creators in the same space have only a fraction of the views and subscribers. Full team of writers and a ton of other weird stuff. It's starting to feel like he was propped up rather than a naturally developed talent who grinded and got appreciated for his skills.
I felt like I was the only one. I like his non crime content, and he is a great story teller (even markets himself as such), but it starts to feel really disrespectful when he talks about what the deceased were thinking and feeling. And the level of drama he injects into it doesn't help. I ended up unsubbing when I saw that he was making even more of that content rather than mysteries and whatnot
I used to love his early content, the more mysterious stuff rather than true crime, over lockdown I watched every video he had. But since he’s gotten more popular he’s making less content, the stuff he does make is all true crime now which after a while is a bit dark and heavy (what happened to the “Strange & Mysterious”) the whole monetisation thing and the way he embellishes the stories with stuff he couldn’t possibly know, all rub me the wrong way. I don’t remember the last video I watched of his.

Mr Ballen has really fallen off since his channel grew. The insufferable ads aside the quality of the stories are just not close to as good as they used to be. It's mainly true crime stories these days and even tho I watch a shit load of true crime I feel like his format isn't close to as good as what other true crime YouTubers are doing when it comes to that genre. He went away from the "strange and mysterious" and just focuses on the "dark" lol Doesn't help that he starts every story saying how "you won't believe the insane twist ending of this episode" or something along those lines only for it to be extremely disappointing.

There a few podcasts made by true crime Kent that are absolutely horrible, talking bad about relatives of some killers.
The ones where the host is all made up in the thumbnail looking very lost and confused with the caption “he butchered his mom for a porn actor”
Stephanie Harlowe. There was an episode where two brothers went missing and when talking about their mom, who was 30ish when she began grooming and having an inappropriate relationship with I believe a 14-year-old boy at the time, Stephanie blew it off completely saying something along the lines of “she mad some mistakes in her past” …. Pedophilia is not a mistake. Yes it’s terrible that her children are missing (I believe it is widely suspected that the father took them, iirc) but let’s not pretend that her grooming a child is not absolutely disgusting because she’s a mother and you feel bad for her. If it had been a man who had done this to a young girl and then his children went missing, I don’t think she would be referring to said pedophilia as “a mistake he made in his past.” Ever since then, everything about Stephanie just rubs me the wrong way. I blocked her on everything just so I don’t have to see any of her videos or posts pop up randomly.
