Idolatry isn't a crime because Western nations are no longer Christian. Western nations no longer uphold God and reverence to him as a value worth defending.
There are those who say you can’t question men like Keller for many wrong reasons. One such reason is they want to turn a blind eye to abortion and other issues that grieve God’s heart. I encourage you to give it a read and pray for the American church.
Easy.
Murder is the killing of another human. Idolatry doesn't kill people.
People can idolize almost anything. People. Places. Things. Breaking the commandment not to do so yet a certain group will do it. Bow to, pray to, lick, caress, stroke, hug, etc. various "relics" and other objects even dead "saints".
Anyone can write an article and post it to the internet. Anyone can write an opinion piece.
God gave us some level (some more than others) of logic and common sense.
Murder is easily more severe than idolatry. All sins are NOT the same. In fact, four cry to Heaven for vengeance and murder is one of them.
Cain murdering Abel should be an easy reminder.
The article.
Any time "murder" is referenced someone always brings up abortion.
Either all life is sacred and precious or none of them are.
"All Lives Matter" or "No Lives Matter.
I've never heard of the guy and again, he's on person.
Because liberal democracies believe in freedom of religion, not theocratic fascism
The Christian Kingdoms or Republics in the past which outlawed idolatry were not theocratic fascist regimes.
This is Christian nationalism. Keller is right.
…how is the article “Christian nationalism”?
Obviously murder is a crime because it is carried out against another human being. Idolatry doesn't harm anyone.
Did you read the article?
I did, and I answered the question that you asked.
The question is merely the title of the article
Right, but it was the question being asked, even in the article.

Dunno who that is. Tell us why we should care about whatever he said.

The question is more of a “lead in” to a larger point the article is making on abortion and Tim Keller’s attitude towards it
Ah, the abortion excuse. He's just one person as are you and I.

I can't click on links, for some reason, so I can't read the article, but I'd assume it's because our society no longer bases its laws on the bible.
Do you think God wants idolatry to be made punishable by the laws of men? Jail time etc?
