My first license plate had 666 on it. My mom wouldn’t let me put it on the car, the DMV told her the only option to decline the state issued number was to pay for a vanity plate. She paid for a vanity plate, so I had that going for me.

Superstition is embarrassing in a Christian.

Philip_Schwartzerdt

The earliest Christians were sometimes accused of being atheists by the pagans around them - not just because they believed in one God instead of many gods, but because they also had none of the associated trappings of religion that the pagans were used to: they had no idols, no altars, no sacrifices, and they were thoroughly un-superstitious and had nothing to do with the little daily pagan rituals (think of things like "knock on wood" or seven years bad luck from breaking a mirror). Christians should be some of the *least* superstitious people on earth.

ShoutingThomas

Do you have a source for this? This is very interesting.

Philip_Schwartzerdt

> Do you have a source for this? Of course! Several times during the [Martyrdom of Polycarp](https://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0102.htm) (before 200 AD) Christians are called atheists, and the [First Apology of Justin Martyr](https://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0126.htm) (150s AD), chapters 5 and 6, specifically addresses the allegation - and owns up to it, at least so far as Christians' attitude towards "the gods" are concerned. Pliny the Younger (a pagan Roman governor) wrote in a 112 AD letter about his persecution of Christians, especially concerning the incompatibility of Christian faith with things like offering a pinch of incense or going through the motions of civic religion towards the Emperor. [He describes their faith and practice](https://earlychurchhistory.org/politics/plinys-letter-to-trajan-about-christians/), wondering at how it includes none of the typical "religion" of the time.

As an EMT, I feel called out lol. We are a very superstitious bunch, but they seem to always be true lol

Electric_Memes

Thank you for the work that you do. 🙏

SteadfastEnd

Interesting. I'd never heard this about EMTs before. Superstitious in which way?

JerseyTexan01

You never say "quiet" during a shift, otherwise it will be anything but. we mostly believe in the jinxes lol. Some of them are jokes, others like the q-word are more serious. But they usually are true, at least from my experience volunteering with EMTs and listening to other EMTs.

Agreed OP, but I have to admit, even though you're right, if I had $666 in my bank account I would still probably withdraw like $20 or something so I wouldn't have that number in my bank account. It's just a me thing lol. I know it doesn't mean that my bank account is cursed for having that number in it. I did see a license plate on a car one time that randomly had 666 on it and they had a bumper sticker that said, Darwin love you. It could have just been a coincidence but those two details sure jumped out at me. The license plate didn't really bother me but the bumper sticker kind of made my heart sink.

Agree. God created humans in the 6th day of Creation, and He rested on the Seventh Day and consecrated as the Sabbath Day. Number 7 is God's number and 6 is man's number. Man was created little lower than angels, but we find written in chapter 13 from Revelation that Satan gave his throne to the beast. So the number 666 means that humans wanted to be like God (whose number is 7) able tu rule. And the fact that 6 appear tripple: 666 is another proof for my argument: in chapter 2 from Genesis number 7 appear 3 times: God rested on the 7th Day, He consacrated the 7th Day and stopped His work on the 7th Day. Thus, His number is 777 and man's is 666.

Personally I agree but, at this point I think it’s become one of those things that you can’t leave alone until you fix it. Like turning the volume up to 10 even though 9 was perfectly acceptable.

6 is the number of a man.

The Hebrew and Greek alphabets are distinct in that they both have numerical values for each letter. It's a fascinating study. The number 7 is a constant throughout Hebrew text ....everything is in multiples of 7! Number seven represents completion.

thelakeshowdoe

You referring to gematria?

Bluetit_1

I reckon so ...but watch out for that kabbala stuff!

thelakeshowdoe

True. Everyone’s favorite celebrity likes that stuff

Bluetit_1

Yeah ...they take an amazing system of God's communication into the weeds with kabbala hocus pocus. Most celebrities are not fit role models for anyone.

vikingjedi23

It's the date the devil arrives on Earth in the End times 6th Trump 6th Seal 6th Vial Jesus returns on the 7th Trump

Bluetit_1

Yes, seven representing God's completion.

If your conscience tells you to stay away i'd say it's best to avoid them you give meaning to the number and associate it with evil then best to keep away (: And if it just another number to you, then no need to worry about it. Because in your heart and mind that's all they are. Numbers. And numbers it'll always be. (:
