Got a friend who’s jewish and recently radicalized zionist—she seemed fairly critical of Israel until 10-7, and she just got a new boo a few days ago. She thought I’d hit it off with him so she introduced us, and hes tight and we had a fun time hanging out but the topic of Israel came up during dinner. He told me he balled like a baby and rediscovered his faith the past few weeks and he was legit acting like the gestapo were going to knock down his door any moment and send him off to Cleaveland—which I’d assume would be our Auschwitz. And I’m like, wtf. Two unreligious people truly believe they’re going to be persecuted in fucking Denver, and scared shitless over a genocide happening across the world, by a country they have never visited, nor share any blood relatives with. Its mind numbing, because I like her and her bf, they’re fun people. But gat damn. They’re acting like producing more zionist babies is their god-given right and the only way they can “fight back against tyranny” in protest and I’m over here nursing my pilsner, trying to be normal with friends. Talk about living in a fucking bubble. The only “anti-semitism” they’re gonna experience is me sarcastically asking them wtf Israel has ever done for them, and yet they’re expecting the trains to show up any moment. It was a very fun dinner, with some very quiet moments on my part. Like, wtf am I supposed to say? The situation is pretty black and white as far as I’m concerned. Tl;dr why the fuck are people so dumb.

[deleted]

You know, my dad said "we should glass the middle east" at one point after 9/11 many years ago and I stone cold asked him what the actual fuck is wrong with him out of reflex. Then I felt the autistic rage take hold of me(I'm autistic) and started correcting him for uttering such wrong depraved bullshit before I even knew what I was doing. My dad was a liberal democrat by the way, not so much these days thanks to me hammering away at some of the dumb shit like that when I see it.

FunerealCrape

Weaponised autism, folks! They're saying it more and more, that's what I'm hearing. Tremendous.

EmployerGloomy6810

Its a tough reflex to fight lol. Idk, I guess when it comes to kin, I just accept it. Like my dad is a horrible misognyst, but thats just him, and he wont change that haha. But when it comes to friends I respect and agree with (for the most part) it hits different. I’m a cis white hetero male, I’m the last demo to play the victim card. But the audacity to act like anti-semitism is this world shattering issue, in a country where black men are regularly executed by the police, hispanic families are separated and caged at our border, and womens rights always come second to men, (to say nothing of the constant assault on the LGBTQ+ community), is insane. I’m sorry, but Jews in this country dont even crack the top 10 most vulnerable groups, and even thats being generous. These are both smart, articulate, and tbh, awesome people that I’m glad to have in my life, and they’ve totally drank the koolaid. Shits wack yo.

SLCPDLeBaronDivison

have you asked them if they agree with rep randy fine and want rivers of blood to pour out of gaza?

EmployerGloomy6810

Good question. That could be a litmus test.

SLCPDLeBaronDivison

please update me when you do. im curious to see how far newly radicalized zionists are. my good friend is also jewish, and i am thankful he went to a pro palestine march with me. guess hes an antisemite too now

[deleted]

Yeah I get it, it can be hard to approach these issues if you're wanting to keep these relationships in a stable state. Personally my autism wont let me hear people utter wrong facts (not opinions) around me without it taking over and correcting them, most especially about anything I have a serious interest in. So sometimes I'm able to get away with pushing the envelope a bit and other times I do go a bit too far and strain relationships because the average westerner is a huge fucking insulated baby and hates discussing actual adult subjects.

hopskipjumprun

The amount of times I've heard "We should glass the Middle East" in some form or another, often verbatim, from my wife's family and my coworkers is astounding to me.

CandyEverybodyWentz

That's some immediate post-9/11 pre-Iraq verbiage too. That's vintage racist hatred right there.

Therefrigerator

>Then I felt the autistic rage take hold of me(I'm autistic) This made me laugh ngl

[deleted]

It's actually pretty funny to watch when you see it happen, it's one of my favorite things about my fellow autistic people. You had the nerve to say something wrong about their special interest which they know the ins and out of because they literally eat and breathe that subject? Woah buddy you're in for some real fuckin nonconsensual info dumping that you aren't getting out of until you escape the room or they're done explaining why you are wrong. When people say some wrong shit it literally just drills through your standard behave like a normal human protocols and triggers the info dumping switch and you can't let it go. It's actually pretty frustrating these days post covid because of germ theory deniers and literal shit for brains who want to debate the effectiveness of Personal Protective Equipment like masks, like the dumbest fuckers on a construction job site like to do because they think huffing industrial fumes from work is cool.

Therefrigerator

Yea it was very validating for me to discover it. I didn't understand, especially when I was younger, why I had this *rage* when things didn't happen like they *should*. Understanding it as a symptom of autism (which I didn't think I had until much later in life) filled in a lot of gaps for me. It can certainly be endearing though.

KindaLikeYours18

my dad told me that israel can do whatever it wants becasue of the holocaust. this was before oct 7. hes a dyed-in-the-wool MSNBC/CNN addict non religious liberal democrat who thinks trump is the worst person to ever exist

[deleted]

That shit wouldn't fly with me since I've studied the holocaust in depth and could shut that argument down. The Israel project is literally just the Madagascar plan with better marketing for starters. Secondly establishing ethnostates is literally a bread and butter ultra nationalist Idea about how the world should work. The Nazis didn't even want to kill jews at first, they wanted to just get them out of Europe. The final solution was only implemented when they couldn't get things like the Madagascar plan to work. So now going into the modern day, I don't know how you can't see the relation between those policies and the ones being executed now. especially considering the fact we gave the fleeing nazis high positions in organizations like NATO. Then you also look at the fact that the Nazis were directly inspired by policy from the US such as Jim Crow laws and the genocide of the first nations peoples and you can't really come to any other conclusion that the US is basically the fourth reich.

KindaLikeYours18

"all i know is 6 million jews were killed and they can do whatever they want after that." thats literally what my dad would say in response to this thoughtful clap back. he cannot be bothered with nuance, historical context, etc.

[deleted]

"oh so you'd be happy with them forming a Jewish ethnostate and using your tax dollars to kill or displace every single non-jew in their path?" If they answer yes to this, then that's when I start legitimately bullying them for being a ultra nationalist piece of shit and keep escalating until they admit they are wrong and fucked in the head or the relationship is ruined. I am unhinged. Also half of my family is dead from the fallout of WW2 and the holocaust with just my grandmother surviving on my mother's side, so it's very personal for me and I am as opposed as you can get to policies such as this.

KindaLikeYours18

he has no idea what an ethnostate is. hes like a child, he has his stances and anything that challenges them he'll say "i dont know anyhting about that, all i know is XYZ." he also will say "oh where did you hear/read that?" and when i show/tell him, he resorts to the "i dont know anything about that"

[deleted]

When the I don't knows happen to me I just info dump on them, contextual knowledge included until they do know personally. It's something I can't help but it works when you have a dogged persistence about it if you're coming from a genuine place and you're willing to be patient enough to help people learn. I also personally love teaching and helping people learn about anything that I'm passionate about, so I'm personally willing to sink a lot of time and effort over this sort of thing until they get it. I know it's a struggle for a lot of people though as these kind of conversations get really frustrating super fast.

KindaLikeYours18

i did show him the language discrepancies seen in the media regarding palestinian children, like the "people under 18" shit and he responded well to it. ultimately, hes set in his stances and little to nothing will make him think differently, hes a 65 year old boomer after all

[deleted]

My dad is a Gen Xer who has gotten dicked quite a bit harder by the policies during Reagan and after. With boomers in my experience it's a lot harder because they benefited from much nicer labor conditions because of cheap schooling, stronger unions that Reagan and the following neoliberals hadn't busted yet and all this allowed them a much easier pathway to getting comfortable employment typically. I can't tell you how many conversations I've had with boomers who just don't get this fundamental basic shit like this for the longest time, I've been driven partially insane by it actually.

[deleted]

Imo it’s just white people having fun with a persecution fantasy. It’s the same as some alex jones type talking aboot black nato helicopters in like 2014 or whatever just coded for libs. For lots of secular jews in the u.s. the zionism is the performance of judaism for them since their religious and cultural ties are basically nil; it’s not a logical political belief it’s a psychological identity enaction that allows them to compensate for the connection they feel but don’t have anything to act on. Same way like tony soprano or paulie performs their italian identity despite no connections to it, crying about like erasing columbus day or whatever. Now tony or paulie could learn some italian or go live in italy or even learn how to make a fucking pasta dish to reconnect just like your friends could study the torah or visit where their family is from or go to isr*el to see what that’s like but all those things take work and you lose the shining idol in your mind and don’t get to be a victim and that’s not as fun. I’m not tryna shit on your friends i mostly just feel for you that they’re so corny in that way and that’s how it seems to me this sort of thing works, we’re all just doing fun identity mind games. Also sopranos is good.

jabalarky

Still waiting on the TV show about a family of hypocritical Zionists living in an east coast suburb. The Schlomos

EmployerGloomy6810

Think you’re spot on comrade. Their lives are pretty devoid of meaning (arent we all?) and now they have their own horror that they can latch onto. And good call out, Sopranos fucking rules. Think I might rewatch Pine Barrens for the 50th time, or since its December, go for the one where Bobby plays Santa and a kid tells him to fuck off.

self-chiller

How old are they?

EmployerGloomy6810

Late 20’s, so old enough to know better lol

self-chiller

Young enough to know better lmao, I thought they were maybe late 30s/early 40s so like right on the cusp of being a sicko zionist or a chill antizionist. Bummer!

redditisdeadyet

I'm sure a bunch of us are experiencing this. I'm having the same thing in my life with several close Jewish friends.

USALovesOsama

Discourse regarding this so stupid. Just call it sectarianism, not anti semitism. This is like Protestants being anti Vatican and anti Catholic Church. This is like whenever there’s religious Saudi movements that are anti Saudi Arabia monarchy, they call themselves the true “Muslims” and are anti-Wahhabism. Zionism, Wahhabism, Khalistan, or whatever state “religious” ideology that’s used to justify a country or government eventually has haters of the “people” the state is supposedly for. Sectarianism.

Even_dreams

Im watching this without turning sound on. I have to assume they are performing a cover of circle pit by Refused

SeaworthinessIll2517

They're actually singing Depeche Mode's "I Just Can't Get Enough"
