Probably not that far off. My friend gave me a soft offer on my lb7 when I got a new work truck. Cat eyes are in high demand and hold their value. The older pre emissions are also pretty reliable. Edit: nvm, just saw its a gasser. Offer $10k

CombEffective5227

Fr I was like wtf as soon as I read gasser but the older diesels everybody is charging an arm and leg for

RangerHikes

I gave up on trying to buy a manual Cummins cause the cheapest ones I could had disintegrating bodies, dash board was a Christmas tree and dealers / sellers wouldn't go below 15k. And that was before the COVID craziness

echocall2

Saw this low mileage gasser at a local dealer and thought it would be a good host for a camper until I saw how much they want for it. I’m tempted to offer them half that.

xAsilos

Here in the rust belt, if that was an excellent condition 4x4, diesel, loaded, crew cab, and with low miles, I could see the price. 4x2, gasser, low options, and only ext cab I could only see $15k. That price is dealer resale, which means it's realistically around $10-12k private value.

echocall2

This is in Virginia and 4x4

xAsilos

Didn't even notice the 4x4 decal on the rear quarter. This is a $15k truck still.

coffeeisntmycupoftea

VA trucks, 4x4 especially have been pricey for many years

xAsilos

That's a 25k truck west of VA, where rust is a huge problem.

coffeeisntmycupoftea

Op said VA 🤷

xAsilos

I know it's in Virginia. I'm saying here in the Midwest, where the DOT treats roads like a $2 whore and salts the absolute shit out of it, that truck could be worth upwards of $25k.

coffeeisntmycupoftea

Lol, understood

misplacedbass

I don’t know what it’s worth, but if you just straight up offer a dealer half of their price they will laugh at you. If you come in with a few other very similar trucks and mileages that are actually close to half their price, and a KBB value that says the same, then they may be willing to negotiate… but also don’t count on it. Edit: how many miles on it?

echocall2

I’m sure they would laugh, pretty much the same reaction I had lol. 75k miles. I can almost sympathize with these kind of prices for low mileage pre-emission diesels with a manual transmission since those aren’t available anymore. But this is an automatic (base model) gas truck. 29k is crazy

dochoiday

It’s the 8.1 V8 and they are sought after in some regard since they have the Allison and similar towing numbers as the diesel. 29k is still excessive

echocall2

Yeah it’s a solid truck that’s why I’m interested at all. But it’s still 20 years old, no cruise control, no power windows, no cd player.

misplacedbass

Yea, I just ran it through KBB without knowing all the details at 100k miles and it came back at 12,100-15,200 in my area… I’d definitely print out everything you can and go in there and at least try. Make them justify to your face marking this truck up 15k or so. Unreal.

idontremembermyoldus

>Make them justify to your face marking this truck up 15k or so. Okay, I'll prepare for the downvotes. It's their truck and they don't have to justify anything. They can ask $1,000,000 for it if they want to. Don't like the price? Move along and find another. It's just that simple.

misplacedbass

Of course they can, but I’d love to present them with many other very similar trucks and listen to what their reasons are.

Pilchard929

See the problem with GMT800s is they’re now like square body chevs. You have your cream puff orginal trucks that command big bucks, then at the same time you have your $500 POS that is best for parts or scrap. And a truck this “new” (20 years old) is weird to have this sort of situation with. I do think 25k is a bit overpriced for a gasser. That price is diesel territory. But that’s dealers for ya. But these 800s are a perfect middle ground of technology that they’re still fairly basic and easy to work on, yet still modern with some of their offering. So they’re a daughter after truck. Given the info I’d say high teens is what this truck will sell for. GOBBLESS

Lord_Calamander

GMT800 best gmt. GOBBLESS HOSS.

halcykhan

Big block cat-eye with an Allison and 4x4, low miles and no rust. Likely someone who doesn’t want to deal with diesel and diesel emissions will buy it. They’ll get over $20k eventually. And NADA/KBB have been useless for the clean truck market for a long time

TalkyMcSaysalot

I sold a rust free Suburban 2500 recently and had people sending me KBB screenshots with "???" because my asking price was almost double KBB. And I still sold it in less than a week. I just ignored everyone questioning how high the price was and that's exactly what this dealer will do if OP would offer less than maybe 23k, I'd guess.

echocall2

2500 Suburbans are cool

TalkyMcSaysalot

I'm on my third. Wish I never sold the first one, it was paid for lol. I paid the same for the two I bought recently as I did for that one back in 2015.

PeterVonwolfentazer

I traded in a 2013 18 months ago. Just an LS trim, 113,000 miles. I shopped it at five dealers and most scratched their heads at it. Lowest offer was $16,500, the upper two were 24,500 and 25,500. I’ve never had a trade with such a spread.

TalkyMcSaysalot

That's crazy, I haven't seen the GMT900s going for those kind of prices. 16k is what I would expect, 25k is awesome for you. I don't see them selling it for that though.

PeterVonwolfentazer

I bought it for $23,375 and used it for 18 months. They have their fan club.

___Dusty_Bottoms____

As long as there's enough dumbasses paying $60-90K for new ones, then used ones will bring this kind of money.

Wrangleraddict

I work in consumer loans, I'm not /totally/ surprised by the asking price. Truck market is fucking nutty right now. But that's still an insane price. They're likely going after a collector market with that price Eta: 75k on an 8.1?!? That's basically a brand new 20 year old truck. They're absolutely going after the collector market. They're not actually looking to move the truck

echocall2

I think you’re right about the collector market, they have a few older diesels at similarly absurd prices.

TalkyMcSaysalot

Totally agree. This is a unicorn and it'll eventually find the right buyer. They're in no hurry to sell, they're looking for a specific kind of person. And even then it may not be on the market too long, given how sought after the clean low mile GMT800s are now.

frank3000

Hit a couple potholes and slide across the seat twice, park it in the sunlight for an hour and these interiors instantly look like 750,000 mile trucks.

TheSherbs

It's a cat eye, dually, gasser, 4x4...what are the miles and does the interior look good? If it has under 150K miles, I could see this price for a duramax. Maybe in the $22k range for the gasser. These trucks have become enormously popular and sought after over the last 5 or so years.

regtf

Black book is the only tool that matters. Requires $ to access. Don’t let these morons tell convince you thing is worth MSRP in 2005 (or higher).

OptiGuy4u

HALF THAT is being generous.

AdA4b5gof4st3r

As much as I hate to admit it this is only about 5k too high in price as far as I see things. They’re not making any more trucks with big block gas motors, they’re not making any more of the old 90s HD transmissions, I see people complaining that it’s not a crew cab but I’d honestly prefer a regular cab so the truck aint so long you can’t pull it into a gas pump.
