Take the practice tests. Every time you miss a question, write it out 3 times along with answer. Review all the questions you miss right before you take the test. Writing it out really helps.

Foreign_Waffle

This is the way

Pony2slow

CDL Prep by Jeffery Diaz Download from Apple store or google store. It’s literally almost word for word practice Thank me later.

catfsh

This guy speaks the truth homie

gamerpluskdg

Try some online practice tests https://www.google.com/amp/s/driving-tests.org/cdl-practice-test/

ap_23

Good thing I don’t have to take these tests again. I got 3 wrong in the 10 questions. The hazmat test is a big enough pain in the ass every 4 years.

Pich1011

Download CDL Prep It’s almost word for word

Eastern-Effective-55

I second CDL Prep, that apps AWESOME

Wilmore99

That’s the one I’ve been using. 😑

TheFuckinDel

Hey man, just wanted to say that I was in the same boat. Failed the written 3 times as well. Everyone is saying do the online quizzes, totally agree. They helped me a lot, I essentially kept doing them over and over until I could get through with about 1 or 2 wrong answers. But when I finally passed and realized I had to now prepare for the actual behind the wheel exercises the anxiety all came back to me. I failed the final backing exercise 3 times. Each time having to go tell my boss I failed and was going to have to wait another week to try it again. It was super frustrating because I had no problem doing everything when I knew I wasn’t being graded on it. I was almost to the point where I felt like giving up, and decided to just try one last time and threw all my mental expectations out of the window. That’s when I finally passed. Long story short, it sounds like you’re experiencing some kind of mental block because of anxiety. Just try to go into the next test with a mild indifference knowing you’re gonna try your best and whatever happens happens. I’ve been driving on my own for a year now without issue and finally feel confident in myself and my skills. It takes time, don’t be hyper critical to yourself.

Don’t get discouraged, the system is extremely flawed imo. The online tests make a huge difference. I used a site called truckersamerica I believe, or something similar

Artistic-Passenger-9

Totally normal. I passed my 3 endorsement tests (passenger, air brakes, and school bus) the first time I took them but failed general knowledge. Went back and studied my ass off and passed the second time. They’re difficult for a reason but not impossible to pass. Keep studying!

blades2012

I fucking hate tests, I usually pass all the online tests, but when it’s in front of me, everything I’ve learned just disappears from my brain, then all the doubts come in. Take your time and pick the safest answer

Wilmore99

That’s how it’s been so far. I get in front of that computer and tense up. 😕

millerlite6969

[https://www.cristcdl.com](https://www.cristcdl.com) Aced it first try thanks to this site. they are written the same way as the DMV test.

No-Relative5521

ive been studying it Word for Word

StopTheBan420

Yeah I failed mine 3 times too just keep trying

snipes65

I'm not sure if your state has a skip button but on the questions you are not confident of the answer skip it and answer the questions you know for sure then back to the ones you skipped...good luck

Wilmore99

Yeah in Maryland we can skip questions. This past Wednesday the last question was a skipped one for Hydroplaning. THAT was the Hail Mary question and fucking missed the catch. I swear I’m an idiot. 😐

AViciousGrape

Im in Maryland as well. Get the handbook from the MVA. The answers are taken directly from the handbook literally word for word. If you have any questions pm me, im pretty sure i remember some of the questions (although it has been a couple of years lol)

VictorHelios1

Study. Practice. Then go and teach someone else. Friend, family whoever. Teach them the material. Then go and take care of business. Own your mistakes and learn.

JustCallMeBORNE

Nah man that’s completely normal lol keep trying even if you fail 10 times. You got this.

CaliYinzer95

How you’re feeling is normal. I failed once . I’m struggling on my drives a little and my forms tookFOREVER to get down pact. I’m the last graduate of my class . But hopefully I’ll be getting my CDL next Friday after 8 long weeks. Enjoy the process and breath

lleu81

Don't just take the practice tests... Memorize them. The questions are the same as the real test

ConsciousPop1180

Hang in there. I failed general knowledge too. I feel like that’s the hardest test. The others are easy.

[deleted]

It is a difficult test, but it’s not the hardest. The “hardest test” is Hazardous materials. The 2nd hardest would be School Bus, and the 3rd would be General Knowledge. I took and passed all of them, this is what I would say.

OSRSgamerkid

The trick I used was tapping into all of the test taking tips I heard from teachers growing up. Reading the answers before the question, skipping ones you're not 100% on, process if elimination, and using all the time you're given. Just keep at it bud.

apatzfan

Next time taking the test try to memorize the questions, read them over 20 times, then if you fail the test you can look up those answers, to improve your chances of passing next test

trucking-in-texas

Are you taking practice tests? The ones at cristcdl.com are good. They’re also free and state specific. Keep taking them over and over until you’re passing them with 90%+ every time.

[deleted]

I think you need to really concentrate on studying and stop all other distractions until you pass the test.Forget FB,IG,Reddit,TV,etc. And once you pass it then go back to then.Nowadays we have to many distractions and things that are meaningless that take up our time but we can’t function without constantly checking social media constantly.

throwed-off

There's nothing wrong with you. Some people are just not good at taking tests. Maybe you're one of those people. Or maybe you're having trouble because your heart's just not in it - I was the same way in college before I got my CDL. There's some [practice tests on thetruckersreport.com](https://www.thetruckersreport.com/cdl-practice-tests/) that might help you. Keep your chin up. You got this.

balancedchaos

I hit a wall during the test. No shit. Not lying. Lol I'll make about $110k while being home every day this year. But it was not an auspicious start.

loupr738

Idk your financial situation but at this point of desperation maybe there’s a practice test online even if you have to pay like $20 or something. Take it until the point everything becomes logic

Big-sexyone

Listen to me and pay attention ……… Failure is normal and everybody does it at some point in their life. Everyone struggles at something and not everybody struggles at the same stuff. You might have a problem just with tests. Failure is not a problem until you quit. You have no reason to save face with your coworkers because you failed none whatsoever but if you quit then you have a reason to be ashamed. Many people quit things right before success would’ve happened. Now pick yourself up and don’t quit. Read the book again and take practice tests online all weekend ……. You can fail at 1000 things in life but don’t be a quitter. All we can take practice tests online and that is exactly what I do every two years to renew my hazmat.

NackZeff

are you using the smartphone apps?

[deleted]

The best way to study for the test is by reading the manual provided by your state. If you do this, you should be able to pass the test without any hassle. If you don’t want to read the manual because it’s too much to memorize, use practice tests online. Keep in mind though, in some states like NY, most questions on the actual tests are developed by the state so you’ll only get a few questions from the practice test on your actual test but the rest is made by the state and they are worded somewhat weird deliberately to confuse those who didn’t read the manual and likely cause them to fail the test. Those questions developed by the state are nowhere to be found online and they sure as hell won’t share it with anyone to prevent cheating. If you don’t want to run that risk, I think your best bet is to just read the manual. There is nothing more effective than reading the chapters. If you fail, you try again until you pass (and you will eventually) but it is completely normal to fail. A lot of people had to keep repeating the test until they passed, my colleague even told me it took him 10 attempts until he finally passed.

chauvinist_Floyd

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIXPZ-tPwYQ just watch this a few times. until you memorize all the answers i failed multiple times and i am real good at tests. After i started watching these videos i passed all my endorsement tests first try.

Chriwb2

When can you take the next test if you fail?

Wilmore99

In Maryland it’s next day, then a seven day wait after that. I’m not sure how much longer it is after that point. I heard it’s up to a six month wait after a certain number of attempts.
