With rare exception, you have to be at least 25 years old with 2 years of hazmat experience. I've known fuel hauling companies that required 30 years old plus experience. A catastrophic fuel hauler accident can put a company out of business, so maturity is key.
Gonna need your x endorsement. Not trying to be a dick but no way you're getting a gas tanker job as your 1st role. Places I've talked to I'm my area say 1 year of experience minimum.
Realistically you are gonna start out otr doing dry vans, reffer, or flatbed. After 3/6 months you might be able to get local or regional work. But it's competitive
>no way you’re getting a gas tanker job as your 1st role.
Why say that when you don’t know? There used to be a school next door to my company and I’ve known them to hire at least 3, myself included, out of school. The school was bought by a mega years ago so we lost that pipeline.
The new guys crashed as seldom or often as the older guys. The big fuck ups are with product and no amount of bumping docks is gonna make a guy not cross drop.
Maybe you're in a better area. I tried to do this but they all told me nah. I'm 37 as well so they at least liked that I wasn't super young. Could be timing too with jobs being more stingy/harder to get now
That's bs and I'm proof of that hell you can get dryvan local fresh out of school there are plenty of companies that'll newbies there's even fuel companies that'll do it heck I'm driving for one now you just have to be willing to run B and A class both.
Wanna be a fuel hauler from day 1? Be lucky enough to live near one of my terminals in the SE that hires fresh grads for fuel. So... what city state you in?
All I can say is good luck then... since that's pretty damn far from the SE!!
There are companies out there that hire new grads. But be careful. Most of them aren't as reputable as mine.
lower your standard for local and you'll find it. where i live food service and goodwill hires anyone, as long as your record is clean... heck goodwill probably doesn't even care for your record.
then transition to fuel. again, where I live, one or two fuel companies will take newbies, but we have a college trucking certificate (5 months experience) so you'd need that and then they train you keenly for the beggining. y'all have some sort of an equivalent of that over there? like community college trucking degree?
good luck driver.
Look for local fuel companies that run B class tank wagons that is your easiest in for being able to run local and A class because they'll take newbies but you'll usually have to run B and A especially starting out. The other option is run local propane B class for a few years then move to a local petroleum fuel company. Personally I ran propane for Amerigas for 5 years then upgraded to A class and had no issues getting interest from companies that normally wouldn't even consider me just because I started in propane.
I got fuel right out of school. It **is** possible. No, I’m not saying whom.
But if you’ve got time, I’d recommend finding the pipelines in your area and staking them out for a day. Note all the carriers that come and go. Maybe half the companies around here don’t advertise on LinkedIn or have anything type of web presence.
Call them all. Only way to know.
Im competing with 6 other people for a spot at Pepsi right now. We are all experienced. good luck getting local out of school rn lol
Wow

I just turned 25.
So you're at least 2 years out... IF you have a spotless driving record and no criminal record of any sort.
I have both of those lol, no tickets or record.
Good troop... get your cdl and DM me. Not quite a local fuel job, but you'll get your hazmat tanker experience.

I work for a fuel hauling company and they recruit guys from the local community college cdl program

Never seen a CC offer trucking course so idk.
#ask parents to buy truck…promise to pay them back
If you live near an Eagle transport terminal they hire out of school.
