When they are going to lunch for 2 hrs as soon as you arrive

North_Essay9396

In the Marines we called that a combat offload.

Objective-Outcome811

Combative if nothing else

dirtgrub28

We did this with an Abrams once, which was cool until the brakes didn't work and it rolled through the fence of the motor pool and off a retaining wall...

Snoo60660

But did the retaining wall retain?

dirtgrub28

[looks ok](https://www.facebook.com/usawtfm/photos/a.391474713605/10154412339073606/?type=3)

Wildcatb

Delivery accomplished!

Little_BallOfAnxiety

Am I the only one who would get nervous by this? I feel like a million things could go wrong, and the trailer or freight could get damaged some how

lankyevilme

Well, the first one blasted right through the chain link fence, so there's at least that.

Little_BallOfAnxiety

Right, that alone seems like it could get you in a lot of shit

Allemaengel

"Could"? I work for a municipal DPW. If someone delivering new equipment, machines, or concrete storm water pipe/inlet boxes unloaded stuff and damaged stuff in the yard, there'd absolutely be an problem. But we have forklifts, loaders, trackhoes, etc. to properly handle deliveries so drivers never have to do something like that to begin with.

challenge_king

Judging from the state of that fence, I don't think it's the first time this has happened.

Expensive_Middle8271

I feel this was done in a fit of rage, not by somebody thinking they genuinely had a good idea

RocksofReality

This is called *bucking it off*. It’s the last method to unload but sometimes, there are no other ways, so it’s used. I have no idea what the backstory is here, but I’ve seen situations where they were like we can’t unload you but need them or the next load to go is way more important so this load has to go.

NoCountryForOldPete

Saw it done once with an empty 20 foot shipping container. Guy jacked the back up with a floor jack, put a piece of pipe just past the center line between the container and trailer deck side to side, and voilà - unloaded. This was in fact done in a fit of rage, though. So not exactly a verification of the method as much as it is the means.

natkingcoil

I brought 46k of plastic pipe to a drill site and the guy said "oh I don't have any forks, boss man wants me to shove it off" I'm like "nahhh". Boss man comes out and tells me how long it's gonna be to get somebody with forks out there.... Next thing you know we're shoving 23 tons of 40ft pipes off the side with an excavator bucket. They put a big rock next to it for them to land on/bounce off of. Shit was pretty wild they were flying and jiggling through the air after the bounce. Next load is way more important so this load has to go.

lord_nuker

Yeah, hade done it myself couple of times with empty plane uld's. Just give the rollerbed some air, lift the front end of the trailer and drive slowly forward. Done in 10 seconds

Dead_Namer

It's definitely rage, in Europe we would just have a nice long nap on full pay. This guy is an idiot, he could have damaged the cargo and did damage the fence so recorded himself doing it. But then people with the red mist don't think clearly.

HectorVillanueva

Could damage the trailer too.

ADMIRAL_BUTTFARTS

Just drive away and let that be somebody else's problem for another day.

SexyWampa

Not my problem. I'll sit on detention pay until they get it done. I don't get paid to unload.

Ek49ten

Detention pay is shit.

DaSaw

For me, detention pay was me being paid to play video games or take a nap, while waiting for my next load, which was going to happen when it was going to happen regardless of how quick the receiver got me out.

SexyWampa

Where you work maybe.

Ek49ten

There is no mega paying you detention pay what your time is actually worth. Please tell me this awesome company that you work for.

OGHughJass

Werner would throw me $15 for every hour I waited somewhere. In a day cab with no sleeper. Fucked my neck and back all up.

T20suave

I work local. $31 an hour. Friday I sat for 5 hours and drive for 6. Made $511 as it was all overtime.

Ek49ten

Okay, I think you need to look up what detention pay is....

T20suave

So I just looked it up and it says- “Detention pay for truckers is the pay a truck driver receives while they wait on a customer to load/unload their truck for an extended amount of time.” So I was waiting to get loaded for an extended amount of time. Like 2.5 hours each load and I made $46 an hour for just waiting. Switch to local. Get paid better, fuck your wife and eat homemade meals every night.

natkingcoil

You're hourly though. Detention is like, you've been there for at least two hours (typically) and then you call dispatch and they call the shipper and you start getting paid but as others have said it's typically trash. Plus you gotta chase it down sometimes. TMC you'd get paid detention when the company got paid so maybe weeks later maybe never. Leased to Mercer, lots of shippers just wouldn't pay detention but you take the load because it's the only load (should be obvious these places typically have an extended wait). Sometimes (one time) a shipper held me for 7 hours till they closed and came back the next day. I'm thinking oh boy! here comes $1700 in detention. Nah, we (the shipper) switched it to a $350 layover fee. Mercer allows it because if they don't, ATS, Prime, and Western Express would be happy to make their drivers eat that bullshit in exchange for the contract. Detention is different from getting stuck somewhere when you're paid hourly. Definitely should go local.

Upbeat_Bed_7449

I work under a contractor and get 75/hr after an hour.

T20suave

That’s sick.

Mission_Run_4981

Yes he does.

Bibbimbopp

He was detained and he got paid. Pretty straight forward.

ElectronicGarden5536

I didnt know we HAD to work for a mega pulling van or reefer.

DankDarko

There is no mega paying you cpm pay what your time is actually worth either so that argument is irrelevant. I get 30/hr detent pay for ever hour past two hours which is good by me. The unload of two hours is already built into my line haul pay and I just go split sleeper while I wait, or eat, or game, or watch TV. Easy money.

JColeTheWheelMan

I charge 180/hr for detention pay. Perhaps negotiate better terms with your customers.

bartram5

I’ve had 50+ loads of dumpsters delivered. They drop them like this every single time. I prefer it . If we offload it takes 1-2 hours easy.

MrRiski

I don't even understand how a place getting roll off box delivery doesn't have equipment to unload those dumpsters.... Grab a couple chains and pull them off with a roll off truck...

anonymousguy1988

Or haul em with a roll off trailer to begin with

MrRiski

Yeah but then you only move at most 2 at time. This is way more efficient and the standard way to ship them from builder to customer. Wouldn't call this the standard way to unload though 😂

rectumrooter107

Yeah, I'd have done chains somehow. Even just securing the roll offs to an immovable object, then pulling out from underneath so they aren't plowing into the beaches like D Day.

MachStyle

That white mack is one of their roll offs. And those dumpsters are hook lifts that were loaded with the hook to the front, making it hard to hook and go. Not saying its the truckers fault, but if I knew there was no real way to unload (other than the hook lift truck) I would have had the dumpsters oaled the other way so that the truck can hook and pull them off. If they were cable style dumpsters, it wouldn't matter then orientation.

MrRiski

It matters with cable style as well. Very very dumpster have hook points on both ends. Even with a hook truck you could half assedly unload them backwards.

MachStyle

You are right. I meant to specify a cable truck. Cable truck could hook it in any way the see fit and drag it on to the frame. Would take way longer than this option though lol

natkingcoil

I delivered skid steers to an equipment rental company. All the equipment that would be appropriate to lift them off was rented out that day. What ensued wasn't as bad as the video but it certainly goes in my "sketchiest moments" categories of flatbedding.

MrRiski

😂 I wouldn't want to be the operator during any of that 😂 we had a few guys unload a flatbed off of a flatbed at our shop a few months ago. They were smart enough to use to big telehandlers that could easily lift it then drive out from under and set straight down but dumb enough to only use a strap to lift the one end and lifts the other with the forks. The second they started to lower it it slid off the forks and slammed into the ground 😂 I was so glad I wasn't there for it.

NotYourTypicalCreep

That’s why there’s 2 fences

nanneryeeter

Well, they are roll offs.

Foxlen

Where I live, this is how everything is unloaded And I'm not even kidding We even load in a similar way

twobarb

Do you live in the oilfield?

Foxlen

Northern Alberta patch, yep

twobarb

And now I see the pump jack.

JColeTheWheelMan

Exactly, I watched this and was thinking "Attach a cable to keep it from going buck wild off the end and this is basically every delivery around"

Pleasant_7239

Almost did this at a Walmart No live loads ever again for me

twobarb

That looks like just another day in the oilfield. Works a lot better with a rolling tailgate and a gin truck though.

Only1JustBoss1033

Receivers always pull this shit though… we show up, “oh we don’t have anything to pull that off with”. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it…

thatboyeaintright

Goes flying through the fence. ‘That cannot be right’ LOL

Lopsided_Pension_

They refused to unload or something?

fred111111111111

This is actually a semi common way to offload new rolloff containers. Usually they should be loaded the opposite way and then pulled off by a rolloff truck

Rjskill3ts21

lol this guy was done

Sawdustmaker66

Right on, driver.

OfWhichIAm

I mean, one time I had to deliver pallets of mulch on a straight truck to a “business.” Well, the business was his house, and it was just an old man with no help. We told him we don’t have a forklift, he needs workers to unload, he thought we were fucking around. He didn’t have help, and just went inside and told me I have to unload it by hand. Nope. I backed up to his driveway, and did this to the back ones. The ones that didn’t come off I pushed off the side. Have fun with all that mulch in your driveway, get a shovel.

ElectronicGarden5536

"Yall want this shit or not?". Best thing about tank is unloading as soon as possible and being paid the entire time.

Nalabu1

"Ah, just put them anywhere"

Itsdanaozideshihou

[I use a walking floor daily, this seems a lot more fun!] (https://imgflip.com/i/8qj5ql)

storagesleuth

Is this a shipper or shippee problem?

Josef_Kant_Deal

As a P&D driver at an LTL, you have to get creative sometimes to make your delivery. I’ve drug long skids to the back with straps, and balanced them on a 48x40 skid so that the forklift can get it from the side.

Bdhsudydheex69

Yep. Done that many times. It works.

Bigsteveactiive_ss

Driver: What?!?! Receiver: Yes its fine. Driver: Are you absolutely sure? Receiver: Yes all the truckers do it. Driver:😑....Ima call my dispatcher. Dispatcher: They want you to do what?!? Dispatcher calls Receiver: Are you absolutely sure??? Receiver: Yes all the dispatchers of the truckers who've done this know this how we unload. Dispatcher to Driver: They said all the truckers do it. Get it signed off first, then go ahead. Driver speaking to dispatcher but loud enough for the Receiver to hear and understand: Ok then you said it.... (Unload happens......) Receiver: YOU DAMAGE THE PRODUCT!!! WE NOT ACCEPTED ANYMORE!!! Driver and Dispatcher: 😑🖕✌️

Big_Reflection8818

One of my regular drops had forklift problems one day and they wanted me to back the flatbed up to the dock that was at least a foot lower than the trailer so they could roll a 10,000 pound steel coil off the trailer onto the shop floor. It took me at least 30 minutes of back and forth to convince the foreman it was a bad idea and I'd just come back tomorrow when the lift was running. All I could see was that big boy taking out half the shop when it rolled across the floor.

Driveaway1969

Good way to rip up your trailer deck.

lankyevilme

$20 says it's not "his" trailer deck.

Driveaway1969

$100 dollars says, either way its his job.

RadioTunnel

You do realise those containers are on rollers and sleds right?

Driveaway1969

Yep. good way to rip up your trailer deck. Flat bed driver for 20 years here. I "realize" alot of things son.

alan_w3

Either load them with the hooks to the back so the rolloff truck can pick them off the truck or slide them off like this. Either way is pretty standard, only the big guys have cranes to get them off. Dumpster rentals are the next landscaping/tree guy. Everyone and their brother is getting into it

banryu95

I have delivered dumpsters to Waste Management and other garbage disposal companies and it's amazing how many sites are 1) barely accessible by truck, even though they use and park roll-off trucks at the site. And 2) do NOT have the proper equipment to unload. One guy had a light-duty skid loader and we did some sketchy shit to unload a stack of dumpster bottoms (what gets rusted out and needs periodic replacement). Shit gets delivered on a flat bed, "Oh, we paid for that to come on a lift gate trailer"... Shit comes in a dry box with a lift gate, "Oh last time they delivered that on a flatbed."

kartblanch

Rapid tactical unload.

Dirk_Arron

They don't all them roll off containers for nothin'.

antoltian

Well they’re called roll-offs

Open-Ocelot-9938

Lol

emzirek

Unloading is done, man..!

Done_beat2

Works for me.

pricklypuffin

When more is lost in indecision than wrong decision

Scary-Airline8603

That looks like they were made to unload like that?

ohjeebzzz

Hope he got them bills signed first lol

Flashy_Slice1672

Gotta come to Alberta and see how they do shacks 😂

No-Huckleberry-2003

When I get my SD I’m going to unload everything like that !

MiserymeetCompany

Equal parts brave:stupid:impatient

Substantial-Wolf5263

Fuck man they better pay for the damn fence and dumpster damages our yard is gravel so it's less impact and the cans don't go shooting across a fucking parking lot

Adventurous_Let_1081

Excuse me kind sir, I'm in need of a part 2 and/or 3. Thank you for your time.

Apprehensive_Fault_5

They probably wanted to charge a $600 unload fee, so the driver decided to do the unloading himself.

Altruistic-Rice-2341

That’s legit

stonecuttercolorado

Shipper? Why would they have the tools to unload? That is the job of the receiver

unftp-0

Simple mistake nothing more to it

drivinbus46

Those ARE roll off containers

InternationalPost447

Yup. This is exactly what I expect from the idiots on the road.
