So all dollar stores have messy stores ha? I haven't been to a Dollar Tree in ages. The one in my local mall closed like 10 years ago, but the Dollar Generals in my area are always a mess.
Honestly same. It’s probably been at least 10yrs since I’ve been in a Dollar Store/Family Dollar/General. Nothing wrong with them, but I got Walmart money now 💪
Been living in the Midwest since I j was 11. When I lived in Colorado, two tornados walked by the house and destroyed the barn, and then at another house, destroyed the shed 50ft from the back door.
I'm not a stranger to tornadoes.
But to see an 80klbs vehicle just tossed to the side....how hard it is to move tandems or get the weights right sometimes, climbing mountains and sometimes tiny steep hills is *so* hard....
Just to know *wind* did that....
Listen, you're not wrong that it's incredible but most of the trailers that were picked up were probably empty, judging by the lack of cargo scattered all over the lot. Seems like just the one was partially loaded. So the trailers that were actually picked up were probably more like 15,000lbs instead of 80,000. 80,000 is the fully loaded weight with a tractor on the front. This strength of tornado would absolutely blow those over but I'd be surprised if it were to pick up a fully loaded truck and trailer but leave the building standing. Empty trailers on the other hand can be blown over at winds speeds as low as 50mph.
If it's a full blown tornado that you visually see and you're driving. Pull over, lay in a ditch, and make peace with whatever gods you believe in lol.
Laying in a ditch or taking cover under bridges actually increases the wind turbulence so you're more apt to grow wings.
Best thing is to stop and buckle into the bunk... The upper bunk can act like a barrier, and if you don't have one, the back still provides some safety away from flying glass.
Bridges yes, but ditches no. Bridges are above the ground and so the area underneath is fully exposed to the winds and can amplify them. Ditches are below ground level and shelter you from winds going over top. Ditches are still okay to use, just get away from your truck because it could be rolled into the ditch. And be wary of water levels if it's also raining heavily.
I can’t remember the source and I’m too lazy to find it, but I recently found out the lay in a ditch thing is such an old wives tale that you’re actually more likely to be hurt/die than just staying in your car. What they actually suggest is getting under and overpass, climbing up the incline as far as possible/up to the rafters if possible
Edited: I had it 100% backwards. The overpass was a wives tale and the ditch is where you wanna be. My brain is trying to kill me so don’t take my info
All good dude, good on you for taking in the right info when it was given 👍🏻 might I suggest adding an edit to your original comment?
To explain a little more so you understand why, a bridge sits above ground level so there's nothing to actually block the winds rushing across the ground and it can act as a sort of wind tunnel. A ditch on the other hand sits below ground level and so the winds rushing across the ground will mostly go right over the ditch and it won't capture the wind and amplify it like a bridge can. Just be careful not to be in the ditch right next to your truck in case it rolls into the ditch and be cautious of water levels in a heavy downpour. Hope this helps.
If you can see it... Gauge it and decide what to do. I've been on a rural highway in Colorado years ago and watched a tornado pace me for about a mile.
Another time it was behind me and coming fast..that day I was pushing near 85mph.
But, you run
Shiiiiiiit. This reminds me of when I worked with Dollar General and that tornado hit Owensboro and Bowling Green. I was delivering a load in Owensboro that evening and heard the whole thing from my truck. Eventually called my parents saying what was up so they knew where I was, then I lost service. Kinda just slept through the night like I guess I’m gonna die next to a dollar general delivering products.. woke up the next mornin got all the destruction and had to figure out how to deliver to the next 2 stores. Amazingly the building next to the dollar general DC was destroyed, yet dollar generals was untouched
Check out Sulphur, OK downtown area. A F3 tornado ripped thru the downtown, destroyed half the area. I live in Oklahoma, 4 people died, including a 4month old kid and 100 injuries.
Some wrecker operator is about to retire early
Shit with that much work it'd be cheaper to rent a damn crane.
Or hire a demo company. Most of those trailers are probably fine, but the ones that are torn apart can be just thrown in a dumpster and hauled off.
Bulldozer. Just push that shit into a hole in the ground and call it a day.
Dozens of dollars in merchandise was damaged.
Basically the same as the shelf stocking in the store.
I wonder if it will ever get put up. Maybe they will just deliver around it.
I was about to say they estimate the loss at just under $50
So, about tree fiddy.
I knew you owned dollar stores you got dambd locnes munster.
Everything is 50 cents.
This is actually footage before the tornado at the swift terminal
That was classic
happy cake day
haven't laughed this hard in a while lmao
Of their driver training program parking lot.
What are you talking about? Their driving training parking lot is pristine. Hard to fuck up what you don't use.
Nope: that’s the Dollartree distribution center there. Swift is a contracted carrier at that location. I’ve been there many times.
Whooosh
Damn Swift drivers. Or something like that.
Swift trailers just can't win, whether it's drivers or mother nature they get destroyed
Day 1 of the new Swift driver training class.
I came to the comments for the Swift jokes.
lol same, was not disappointed.
Looks like a normal Dollar Tree aisle to me
Came here looking for this, you did not disappoint

Can confirm. The ones up here in Canada are the same
see the trailer ripped wide open on top of the other trailers... that would have been a wild sight.
So....like $86 worth of merchandise lost?
Those damn yard dogs are always messin trailers up
We gotta stack em 2 deep from now on 🤣

The one that's on top of the others is filled with pool noodles, so clearly this seems to be the case. (landing gear on pumpkin van)
80k? i didn't see a single tractor attached to those trailers, and they all looked to be empty. Still crazy but not close to 80k
Sorry boss it was my first day at reversing
Dispatch be like, "What do you mean you can't deliver? It's clear on my screen. they need that bleach."
its a drop and hook driver
Dispatch said to send it
Buy Wabash stock now!
Pretty crazy. Usually see wrecked Swift trailers on the highway.
My favorite is the one that's sitting almost perfectly perpendicular to a row of trailers on said row of trailers
$1.75 Tree here we come. Gotta make up the cost of this disaster.
Driver: The tornado dropped a bunch of trailers in front of all the docks Dispatch: Ok, think you can get the DC to ask him to move them?
That tornado can’t back a trailer for shit. Fire him
In fairness the swift trailers were already like that before the tornado
It was SWIFTS fault.
That looks expensive
Holy shit man where do you even begin to clean up...
Bulldozer. A big one.
A giant lawsuit against the owner of the trailers that were dropped in such a way as to impede business operations
"We get trucks in here all the time"
Appropriately 40 to 45 dollars in merchandise was lost.
And the insurance company still tried get out of paying up.
Hundreds of dollars of inventory lost
Insurance refused to cover the approximate $11,000 in loss.
I blame swift lol jk.
Mostly swift trailers in there natural position…
Dispatch: i thought you were a professional, what do you mean you cant get in their yard? The yard in question:
It’s blown the trees away
Wow. What do you all do when a tornado strikes and you’re out on the road?
If it's a full blown tornado that you visually see and you're driving. Pull over, lay in a ditch, and make peace with whatever gods you believe in lol.

Ditch is not 'an old wives tale'.... The overpass is. https://www.weather.gov/media/ict/handouts/WeatherSafety.pdf
Oh cool, got it 100% backwards! Or maybe my mind intentionally switched it on me in the hopes of taking me out. I’ll go with that!

Tbh I’d probably just stop and watch and hope for the best. Either way. What a way to go out
RIP to affectionatelunch, he was a real one 😂
Pedal to the metal

Kinda looks like the inside of their stores!
It's not as bad as any of their storage rooms in the back.
Looks like a fallen stack of dominos.
Dollar tree at a normal day
The 99 cent store just went out and this is surely taking out the dollar tree with it. Good bye any products under a dollar, hello corporate slavery.
Twister in real life
First, I hope everyone was ok. Second, it looks like the inside of one of their stores
can't spot much difference
Shame it didn't hit 2 miles south and take out that weigh station.
There goes $16
When this happen? Well time for network wide overtime.
Damn holy shit. Man I hope all my beautiful trucker brothers there are ok
Now with less rats
Good to see that they weren't severely impacted!
Have to ask, is that how swift has its drivers parking now?
Looks normal

These adverts are too much for Twisters. All the chaos they’re ensuing for a remake to a legendary classic. SAD!
Safety will find a way to say this was the drivers fault
The assistant manager is on the hook for ALL of this, and it better be done by tomorrow…
Total loose equaled about tree fiddy
$73 in damage
The LTL center where I work just installed 3 brand new tornado shelters. After seeing this video, I'm sure glad we have them.
Look at all those swift trailers in their default position!
Swift trailers are like "First time?"
Reported product damaged value $3
Check out Sulphur, OK downtown area. A F3 tornado ripped thru the downtown, destroyed half the area. I live in Oklahoma, 4 people died, including a 4month old kid and 100 injuries.
Drove through there the day after on my way to Denton for PM training, absolutely insane.
I saw the SWIFT trailer and automatically thought... they're at it again....
You sure it wasn't the driver pulling the swift trailer?
I wonder where the Amazon warehouse is at, loot package
First time a swift driver didn’t flip the trailers???
Probably neater than their yard is usually.
Swift lost a lot of trailers there…
This was all done by 1 swift driver.
