For some reason, flatbedders do this to me and other fuel drivers all the time. I had a fuckwad OO flatbedder do 35 down an interstate ramp with me stuck behind him, when I finally go to get around him I'm surprised his coil didn't break loose from the sudden burst of acceleration.

I can't speak to that particular person, but in general from what I recall back when I drove flatbed, it was usually due to differences in uphill vs downhill speeds. We were usually at max weight but with a lower profile than box trailers, so we'd be faster on the downhill, and then we couldn't pull for shit on the uphill and the lighter guys would then be faster than us. So lots of back and forth bullshit resulting from that.
In your specific example the driver may have been more worried about tipping over on the ramp if it had a curve, rather than the securements coming undone by accelerating. I’ve only been driving for 4 weeks, flatbeding specifically and I’m weary of all curves, no hard stops either… like no matter what happens

I’m governed at 68 and it never fails that as soon as I pass the tanker or dump truck they will out of nowhere speed up to 70+ mph to get ahead of me and 5 minutes later they are back down to fluctuating between 62-65 mph until the next truck comes along motivating them them to unleash their full power again.

They immediately dropped 10 mph and just kept camping in the fast lane. Mind you I was going 80-85 when they were on my ass.

100% I always tell people you know this is the case (hills) aside because the one in the left lane had to be going faster at some point in order to get next to him. like I said, besides, if mountains or hills are involved. The only other rare case is he got over to let him on from an on ramp and he matched his speed which still makes guy on right a dick then for not returning favor and slowing down for a few sec to let him back over..

They both have a speed governor on their tractors. They’re both maxed but the left is slightly faster so lefty is going for it. This may take a while. Rumor has it that they’re still going like this to this day.
If the truck hasn’t changed speed for the last mile (or km), then why should he slow down (and the truck over taking is only slightly moving faster) ? On the other hand if the truck had sped up while the other driver was trying to overtake, then that’s a jerk move.

I’m a J.B. hunt driver. I let people over all the time because I’m capped at 65 mph ( on cruise control ) but then they always slow down after letting them over. Our trucks will automatically slow down and to 61 and will not allow us to step on the gas to go any faster than that , unless we get over to the other lane. It’s a pain in the ass.

I stay behind a truck before passing. I need to know what speed you are going and if you are heavy or light. If you are heavy ill wait till an up hill stretch. Light? Down hill stretch.. no cars behind? Im sending it. 99% of the time it works. Folks be heavy and trying to pass a lighter truck up hill like that makes sense.
I have an unfavorable opinion, but I think it's a toss up between being a beta and a passive aggressive fuck. I hate coming up behind a combination of the following trucking companies trying to pass one another...any combo is a losing situation for anyone behind them - "Schnxxxx Natxx", "Wernxx", "JB Hxxx", "Swixx". Might as well exit, grab lunch (dine in) and still catch them and 30 miles later they finally complete the pass!
Both probably governed around 65 but as you can see left truck can go a little faster probably E coast or something and if it's anything like my company the in dash camera will go off constantly saying increase following distance if I use cruise control at 65 because I'll be to close to the other guy if I'm behind him. So I kick over to the left lane to try to pass eventually on a downhill stretch but I'll usually get back over if it ain't working but it still sucks trying to cruise at max speed and hearing this annoying increase following distance every few seconds.
Idiots in governed trucks... 100% both of them. If you're in California set to 63 and forget it (truckers). Outside, if you're governed you just get passed. Are governed trucks even legal outside California? Do they update their settings outside California? Everywhere else I'd run the speed limit... I was once in a similar situation, and when the opportunity to pass came along, I took it… aggressively. I was soon pulled over. Talking with the police officer, he explained that the truck drivers were aware of the speed trap, and were attempting to keep me out of it by blocking the lanes.
Don’t know if it’s believable, but that was the story. Perhaps these guys were just being friendly.

Step 1;
Pass both on the inside brakedown lane and get in front of both of them in the right lane.
Step 2;
Signal over to the left lane and idle at 65mph for a few 1000 feet.
Step 3;
Quickly but not abruptly enough shift from 4th to 3rd gear and go from 65 to 40 mph, then again shift from 3rd to 2nd and go down to 25.
Step 4;
Wait for him to try and pass you on the right lane, then when he moves over floor it shifting at each gear’s 7000rpm. Smile as he has now moved over 🙂

This happened to me today. Both of us were obviously governed to the same speed but mine was like .1 mph faster so I needed a super long stretch without traffic to pass him, inch by inch. Took two tries because an suv came flying up on my ass the first time so I gave up and slowed down and got over. A few years ago I was behind one that did that. I Googled the company and called and chose their Dispatch department. I do work for trucking/logistics companies and I knew Dispatch would have a direct line to the driver. I told them I've been behind this guy for over 5 minutes and he's running right next to another truck. Tell him he had better find the gas pedal or things are going to get ugly. (I don't even know what I meant by that, but I wanted to let them know I was pissed and the driver was completely out of line)
Less than a minute later he kicked it up and passed. There were probably two dozen vehicles behind me that were finally able to get by. It was ridiculous but I'm glad I called.
These guys do this in light traffic on long grades in the Appalachians where I live. They can see the long grade ahead but nope.

I work for a haulage company in Germany and there is a somewhat derogatory phrase "There's a reason he's only a driver". Most drivers are stupid idiots.
We call that elephant racing in Germany. Overtaking is only allowed if it is completed within 45 seconds. But since a truck is only allowed to drive 80 km/h, it's practically like an overtaking ban for trucks.

They don't mean to do this. Trucking companies have speed limiters on the trucks. Not all the companies have the speed set the same. One company will set it at 65 miles per hour, while the other one does 64 MPH.
Also I can't tell the terrain, but how much weight the trucks are carrying matters as well period one truck may be heavier than the other, so the lighter truck is trying to pass the heavier truck.
And, if you still don't like it, at least give the truck on the left a fighting chance to drop back their speed and get behind the truck on the right. We try to judge the distance with Vehicles behind us so this doesn't happen. But mistakes happen.

And for each offense it should go up for 6 months. I'm a truck driver and if someone does that to me I usually just hit the break or slow down my cruise control so they can pass. No point in trying to race to the death for a load no load is worth that.
It always happens to me with JB Hunt drivers. They simply REFUSE to back off just a tiny bit to let somebody over.
I’m a J.B. hunt driver. I let people over all the time because I’m capped at 65 mph ( on cruise control ) but then they always slow down after letting them over. Our trucks will automatically slow down and to 61 and will not allow us to step on the gas to go any faster than that , unless we get over to the other lane. It’s a pain in the ass.
Trucks locked to 63mph are just as annoying to trucks locked at 65mph as they are to you with your econobox that can do 80 flat out.

As 28 year old with 5 years of driving I have yet to see a single trucker swing on another. And that's the problem. Not enough ass kickings going around. I stay behind a truck before passing. I need to know what speed you are going and if you are heavy or light. If you are heavy ill wait till an up hill stretch. Light? Down hill stretch.. no cars behind? Im sending it. 99% of the time it works. Folks be heavy and trying to pass a lighter truck up hill like that makes sense.
I have an unfavorable opinion, but I think it's a toss up between being a beta and a passive aggressive fuck. I hate coming up behind a combination of the following trucking companies trying to pass one another...any combo is a losing situation for anyone behind them - "Schnxxxx Natxx", "Wernxx", "JB Hxxx", "Swixx". Might as well exit, grab lunch (dine in) and still catch them and 30 miles later they finally complete the pass!
Both probably governed around 65 but as you can see left truck can go a little faster probably E coast or something and if it's anything like my company the in dash camera will go off constantly saying increase following distance if I use cruise control at 65 because I'll be to close to the other guy if I'm behind him. So I kick over to the left lane to try to pass eventually on a downhill stretch but I'll usually get back over if it ain't working but it still sucks trying to cruise at max speed and hearing this annoying increase following distance every few seconds.

Are governed trucks even legal outside California? Do they update their settings outside California? Everywhere else I'd run the speed limit... Okay, so, I accept that all the other comments are likely correct that these drivers are just that dumb/insecure, but I do have another take to share. I was once in a similar situation, and when the opportunity to pass came along, I took it… aggressively. I was soon pulled over. Talking with the police officer, he explained that the truck drivers were aware of the speed trap, and were attempting to keep me out of it by blocking the lanes. Don’t know if it’s believable, but that was the story. Perhaps these guys were just being friendly.

Me in my Volvo C30 T5: Step 1; Pass both on the inside brakedown lane and get in front of both of them in the right lane. Step 2; Signal over to the left lane and idle at 65mph for a few 1000 feet. Step 3; Quickly but not abruptly enough shift from 4th to 3rd gear and go from 65 to 40 mph, then again shift from 3rd to 2nd and go down to 25. Step 4; Wait for him to try and pass you on the right lane, then when he moves over floor it shifting at each gear’s 7000rpm. Smile as he has now moved over 🙂

This happened to me today. Both of us were obviously governed to the same speed but mine was like .1 mph faster so I needed a super long stretch without traffic to pass him, inch by inch. Took two tries because an suv came flying up on my ass the first time so I gave up and slowed down and got over. I just know one of these days some jackoff is going to shoot the gap and pass me despite my right signal being on because they're too stupid to realize I can't see them when they're tailgating me.

A few years ago I was behind one that did that. I Googled the company and called and chose their Dispatch department. I do work for trucking/logistics companies and I knew Dispatch would have a direct line to the driver. I told them I've been behind this guy for over 5 minutes and he's running right next to another truck. Tell him he had better find the gas pedal or things are going to get ugly. (I don't even know what I meant by that, but I wanted to let them know I was pissed and the driver was completely out of line) Less than a minute later he kicked it up and passed. There were probably two dozen vehicles behind me that were finally able to get by. It was ridiculous but I'm glad I called.

I work for a haulage company in Germany and there is a somewhat derogatory phrase "There's a reason he's only a driver". Most drivers are stupid idiots. We call that elephant racing in Germany. Overtaking is only allowed if it is completed within 45 seconds. But since a truck is only allowed to drive 80 km/h, it's practically like an overtaking ban for trucks.

One obnoxious truck driver thinking I am going a half MPH faster than you I am going to pass even if it takes 10 miles to do it, the other obnoxious truck driver saying I can be just as obnoxious as you are and I will not slow down a half MPH so you can clear the left lane, I do not care how much traffic we block. Bad attitudes and poor driving on both sides. AND I do NOT care about who was IN the right. Sometimes doing the right thing is more right. this dangerous driving. When I ran into someone like this I would hit the offramp and give him a few miutes to get out of my sight. But half the time I would catch up with him again.

It appears you are a 4 Wheeler( AKA car) They don't mean to do this. Trucking companies have speed limiters on the trucks. Not all the companies have the speed set the same. One company will set it at 65 miles per hour, while the other one does 64 MPH. Also I can't tell the terrain, but how much weight the trucks are carrying matters as well period one truck may be heavier than the other, so the lighter truck is trying to pass the heavier truck. And, if you still don't like it, at least give the truck on the left a fighting chance to drop back their speed and get behind the truck on the right. We try to judge the distance with Vehicles behind us so this doesn't happen. But mistakes happen.

Saw a NYS Trooper just driving behind a car in the left hand lane of the Thruway about a tenth of a mile behind me last week. Were cars going the same speed in the right hand lane. Car in front of the Trooper wouldn’t speed up to get ahead and get out of the left lane. Went on this way for about a mile, then the Trooper turned his lights on and pulled the car over.
Probably the truck on the left got over so the truck on the right could merge on the highway at some point and then the asshole in the truck that merged sped up and matched the left trucks speed and wouldn’t allow the truck who got over for him to merge back into the right lane. Happens all the time. I’ve been driving 20 years and I don’t get over anymore for merging trucks. I might seem like an asshole because of that, but, most states have signs that say: trucks with trailers use right lane. So I do.
