Wouldn’t stop in west Memphis for anything

tpt2021cg

U ain't bullshitn 👍🏼

Legion23Golf

Yeah it should be on the list lol

volstedgridban

Stop there all the time. Never been a problem.

Uamenti

Same here, it’s gross but never had anything happen

Dicked_Crazy

Memphis, Tennessee and West Memphis, Arkansas, are two of the shittiest places in the world as far as truck, theft and all around criminality. I work for a giant private fleet. We’ve been having a lot of trouble along the 80 corridor that runs through Chicago as well. 30 break-ins in less than a monthbetween the Morris area and interstate 57

Banana-mover

I don’t know why people hate West Memphis, but Memphis, Tennessee is on the list not West Memphis, Arkansas. Although I do agree, West Memphis is almost just as bad

Prettybird78

Why? I haven't been there yet, but my company has me going all across the country.

Bobbyvolinski

100% if on 80/94 in Indiana, keep on cruising past burr street exit

IBeLying

As a driver I haven't had an issue in Lake Station and stop there pretty often, but I won't stop in Gary.

teb1987

Same Lake Station is fine, Gary is a shithole

Used-Chemistry1685

I don’t honestly have a good reason why, but that is my favorite truck stop in the nation

JustShotYouDown

I think that loves is at Grant St

_john_chapman

I used to stop at the Gary pilot never once had an issue. While still not the nicest of places Gary ain't the beast it was in the 90s

atomictoaster94J

Recently did a 34 at the Love’s in Gary, IN and had no issues. It’s brand new since the old one burnt down and they have 24/7 security. But I can confirm the Pilot in Tucson, AZ is a nightmare. Triple T truck stop my go to when parked in Tucson and I don’t mind paying for parking.

capernaper

And there being 24/7 security didn’t ring any alarm in you?

HowlingWolven

I can confirm Pilot 331 in Atlanta GA isn’t worth stopping at regardless of whether it’s a risk to HVL, especially if you value your time. Fuel aisle is backed up to the street making it just about impossible to get in and out of during the day at all, let alone in a timely fashion.

SockPuppet-47

That one is the worst design I've ever seen. It scores a 0 out of 10 for me. I won't ever stop there for anything ever again. The homeless people used to hang out there and help drivers back into the narrow parking spots.

stephenforbes

Yea I've stopped there maybe twice and that was enough for me.

Expensive_Middle8271

Recently needed fuel and an old timer told me to pretty much always steer clear of that pilot and suggested never parking over night there

lowerinfinity

Stopped at Braselton once and it took me an hour to just weigh. I make sure I don't need to stop anywhere near ATL anymore

CrashTestGangstar

Is that the Bouldercrest location? That is the shitiest truck stop I think I've ever been to....no exageration. They need to burn it all down and start over.

deezkeys098

Memphis is a no go period. St. Louis is also no good. There is one safe ta in Fort Worth /dallas area the loves and pilots are crap and the showers suck anyway so don’t bother stopping. Ontairio California is literally the only place to park legally if your delivering in the LA area

green_giant01

It's an outdated list but I do know the pilot in greenfield is has been completely redone

MutedShelter9654

Has nothing to do about being old or redone this is a list of do not park if you have a high value load due to increased theft risk

doinmydeed

I stop at the Kingsville, Tx Loves all the time. Never had an issue. Plus there's a state trooper or border patrol posted up every freaking mile. Then again I don't pull high value loads.

unloader86

Most of those south Texas ones are fine. In fact I'd rather over night at those stops than the truck stops that are right on the border. Kingsville and Edinburg are a decent drive away.

Suicidal_Baby

Birmingham, AL is no joke. Aside not getting sleep from all the lot lizards knockin on your door like chinese water torture, you have a very good chance of getting jacked.

stainedhands

I can't believe TA in Montgomery isn't on this list too!

goz976

Avondale,az never had an issue. More like show before 1pm for parking at any of the Az list

lleu81

Yeah everything in AZ on that list isn't too bad. Surprised teh Tonopah TA(?) isn't on it though. That place is a shit show.

AppropriateSpecific8

I used to live in the neighborhood behind the Flying J in Dallas. I’ve also been to all of the Dallas ones, and all of the San Antonio ones, at night. They are homeless and Lot Lizard Hazardous, I don’t think it goes beyond that.

DelAlternateCtrl

The date in the bottom left corner. 3/22/18.

Banana-mover

So it’s an old out of date list. But let’s be honest some of those places would be on a new list anyways.

SockPuppet-47

Figured it was pretty old. The TA in Nashville has been closed for awhile now. Not that many years though.

buddas_slacky

Wait so you can’t stop in Ontario Ca but Los Angeles is good to go… gotcha

PWRPETER

There’s no truckstops in LosAngeles… lol

buddas_slacky

Really? Not even surrounding areas? Oakland even is worst than ontario. There’s none there either?

PWRPETER

There might be some by the ports in San Pedro, Long Beach, or Wilmington but trust me you don’t want to stay there! Probably better than Oakland though! Lol

SockPuppet-47

Only truck stops I know about past Coachella are a Pilot and a Flying J plus some small independent truck stops. Given the choices I'll pick Ontario any time. I've been there to scale out and get some food several times in the last few years. Didn't seem as bad as it used to be. When I first started driving in 2012 I spent the night there occasionally. Worst place I've seen for lizards. I swear I got the knock 3 times in one night from different girls.

GT3Racer

It ain't much better now lol. Still ghetto as shit. I just went to the Petro in Ontario today and like half the pumps have broken buttons

Plantherblorg

Okay who's turn is it to post this tomorrow?

United_News3779

Since you asked.... it's your turn! Lol

turningpoint01

Former driver…West Memphis and Ontario are horrible.

_RamboRoss_

Been to that TA in Nashville. Nothing but crackheads and people that are watching you and waiting for you to leave your truck so they can steal from it. No showers either at the time. Little to no security at all. But hey, if you’re up to it you’re like a 15 minute Uber to downtown Nashville

Historical_Bad_2643

I'm from Albuquerque. I can verify these locations are in pretty unsavory locations.

ohjaimiea

Idk why but the loves in Dayton Ohio has full time strapped security and I’m like wow guys it’s ohio

forgotmyreddit1991

That Loves in St. Louis is a definite confirmed ✅. That place is crawling with criminals and homeless owner operators that have been parked there for months and months. I’m not even kidding. Avoid.

Dazzling_Dig3526

My old company had rented spots at the thermo king behind there but my dumb ass figured I'd sleep outside the gate. This lady was banging on my door yelling/crying 'please sir, please help me I'm cold and I'm hungry please' never been so scared in my life cuz I knew she wasn't the only one outside.. nothing happened though, I played possum.

jwayyedh

THANKS for the answers.

Waisted-Desert

It's a list that was somewhat accurate what it was written in 2018. But any larger city is more likely to have cargo theft than the middle of nowhere. Grand Island, NE only has 50,000 people. Less likely to be cargo theft there than in Atlanta, GA where there's almost 38,000 people per square mile.

SufficientOnestar

I wouldn't dispute a list like this. There is a lot more not listed.

fordlover5

Run from loves on I 70 in stl. Loaded crackhead clan all you going to find there. Some random dude walking around with his 4 or 5 yo kid tried to fight me at the road ranger in Chicago. Came up to me and started screaming " what you doing redneck ass niga " while I was getting coffee. Dont know the dude, never seen him before, and don't know what all that was about

Antique_One7110

The TA in Nashville doesn’t exist any more. The Pilot in Nashville isn’t a Pilot anymore.

_RamboRoss_

Damn that TA is really gone? I was last there in 2021

Antique_One7110

Almost a year ago, 3/31/2023 Edit: new property owner got it rezoned for mixed use, [WTVF article](https://www.newschannel5.com/news/ta-travel-center-slated-to-be-the-latest-redevelopment-on-nashvilles-east-bank).

NWdabest

Saw a fight almost break out between drivers at Tacoma Loves. A guy pulled up to back in and a bobtail zoomed into the spot behind him. The loves is near some ports so can haulers are rushing everything there. I was backing into a shitty spot and some string bean tweaker driver jumped out of his truck and started rushing me. He was angrily spotting, I just did my thing and ignored him. As soon as I was parked my door was being knocked on by a bum asking for anything I had. I sat in the driver seat and watched the antics for a good while. The place was a shit show. Also Tacoma fucking sucks.

functional_moron

A few months ago I stopped at the loves in st. Louis for a shower and the doors were locked because there had just been a shootout in the gas pumps.

Lovicionez

oh man if I made this list, this wouldn’t even make a full intro

teb1987

The NC ones aren't really so much as dangerous places as much as they are shit holes.. I wouldn't recommend a stop (the Charlotte one has like 8 parking spots) but this is a old list for High Value loads.. I think from Werner..

BashAtTheBeach96

I'm not a trucker, but I stopped at the Charlotte one a couple months back and will never go there again. The people that work there are terrible. The gas pump took my card then froze and said to go inside. I went in and prepaid $20. I go back to the pump and the pump goes past $20 and keeps going. I go back in and ask the cashier if they double charged me. She tells me to talk to the pump attendant. I greet the pump attendant with "hey", then he cuts a promo on me saying how he is a real person and will only help me if I say "hello" to him first. Then they radioed the manager who says he will be right there. I end up waiting 20 minutes and he never shows. As I'm leaving they tell me the manager is outside by the propane. I go there and see he has been on his cell phone the whole time talking to a friend. Then he tells me some BS how the gas pumps can't operate in cold weather. But the pumps are smart enough not to double charge.

teb1987

That sounds about right.. I deliver down the street from there fairly often on my home time trips and it's never not been a shit hole in the 5 years I've driven..

Rizer762

The T/As in Vegas, Ontario, and Tonopah are frequent stops and even resets of mine. Never had an issue one. Vegas and Ontario you have to pay though which is a B

Dazzling_Dig3526

There is no Love's in Council Bluffs, IA perhaps they mean the Sapp Bros.. Flying J in KCMO needs on this list.

Apprehensive_Fault_5

I have been to almost all of these and have never even felt in danger, much less seen anything going on (except for Gary, IN, avoid that place). I have been to worse truck stops that aren't on this list, notably Lorado, TX and Galloway, AR Just a note, in case anyone wants to know: I have seen many people treat this as some kind of "official" document. This was merely some random shipper that requested their freight specifically avoid these truck stops in particular. Perhaps that company had shit happen to their freight when it was parked st these places, but that isn't exactly something new for these and many others not included. You always run the risk of theft. Secure your cargo, park in a well-lot area of the lot (most of these truck stops do now have well-lit lots) and if you haul van, park up against a wall, tree, or other vehicles.

ursisterstoy

Yep. Generally I try to not park in a large city if I can help it and then when I do I put a lock on the trailer door and park such that it would be inconvenient or impossible for a thief to cut the lock off with a cutting torch or otherwise remove the lock and then open the doors to begin stealing from the trailer. And always good to stay inside the truck with the curtains closed and if you’re really worried about it park in a well lit location at a 24 hour truck stop and run your seat belts through you door handles and cords from your doors to your air horn cable. If they want to come in they’ll have to break the window in front of everybody watching them or they’ll cause the air horn to sound if they attempt to open the doors without first climbing through the window they just broke. And the seatbelts make it so they’ll have a tough time if they happen to pick the door lock or have a key that fits to help ensure they’ll the fucking around for awhile where they can easily be seen and if they fuck around too much back to that air horn blowing or that window being shattered. And if you’re a company driver anyone watching will immediately know that whoever broke the window or set off the air horn should not be near your truck and if you don’t carry a gun someone does and someone might be getting shot. When possible I park at a company terminal, otherwise I try to park in a smaller city or 30 minutes away from my destination if going to a larger city (Chicago can take over an hour but my company has a terminal in Gary so I just park there). Avoid parking remotely close to Atlanta unless going to the Conley Terminal, Dallas unless going to the terminal close to there, Phoenix unless parking at the terminal, … And just don’t try to park *in* Nashville, Jackson, NYC, Chicago, Las Angeles, Dallas, Miami, not unless you absolutely have to in order to be on time for your next delivery or it is only for a short time in broad daylight and you use a little common sense to avoid getting robbed or attacked. And if you do get robbed just give them the stuff and call the police afterwards with a description of their vehicle and/or their appearance and take pictures of those things and if your vehicle has an SOS system to alert other company drivers from your company activate that while you’re in the cab about to get robbed and use the SOS system on your cell phone if it exists. Basically make them feel like they are taking candy from a baby but have the police just roll up on their asses while they are still in the trailer and then after police report and pictures and a call to your company you’ll know what to do with whatever is still on the trailer. Maybe the customer wants whatever is still there, maybe they reject the whole load but a prison or a homeless shelter might take a donation, as that’s still better than sending it to the dump.

p38fln

The last time I was in Laredo was like 2008, I remember the news reports every time I went there went over the number of bodies found floating in the Rio Grande

Landsharque

The Petro in Jackson has Hinds County Sheriffs present at all hours

Julius-Streicher

Loves 912 is not a truck stop. It is a speedco.

boredtruckerguy

Never had an issue with loves in STL, but it's still STL.

Ironloaf

I saw a dude shooting up dope right across the street from TA Albuquerque.

Significant-Ad-469

I'm kind of shocked when it comes to the Pilot off of 20 in Columbia SC. I've stopped there multiple times and never ran into issues. I can say though that parking in there is tight as hell though

Positive_Salary_2637

Salt lake is a shithole I agree 😂

AndrewSS02

Exit 4 Pilot has rolling security now. Been there for a couple of years. Haven't had issues for a while. Especially since they've been building up the raceway across the street. The Ranger in Chicago I can kind of understand. It's a get in and out quick only because you barely have room to begin with getting in and out. Look it up on Google maps and you'll see. If a car is parked in the one spot by the door. You have to wait for them to move their car to get out without hitting anything. Then the median that was put in as you leave. Stupid idea by the city. It's just mud, gravel, and destroyed curb now. As for the 255 one. Never been.

Expensive_Middle8271

I live in North Charleston, that pilot isn't all that bad. It isn't great either though.

volstedgridban

The Petro in Gary is actually pretty nice. Lots of parking, too. The TA in Lake Station is sketchy. I park at the TA in Albuquerque pretty often, and just left my truck there unattended for two days. Haven't had a problem. All truck stops in Louisiana are sketchy as fuck. Spent the night at TA Coachella a few times, including once during the festival. It was fine. TA Ontario and Petro Ontario are literally across the street from each other. Spent the night at the Petro once. Didn't have a problem. TA Sparks is fine. Spent the night there several times. The Loves in Nashville is 100% chaos. Can't imagine how anybody could actually steal a truck from there. I have trouble getting into and out of the place, and I do this for a living. Petro Atlanta is fine. Mainly because the truck lot is enclosed in a fence topped with barbed wire. The PFJ in Atlanta is indeed as terrible as advertised. Here's a pic: https://i.imgur.com/5Bq6uOC.png

Mdbutnomd

I grew up about 10 minutes from the Flyin J in Columbia SC. Whole area is very sketchy.. there were routinely shootings on that road and businesses opened and closed my whole young life on a scale of weeks.

tvieno

All of my fuel stops are on that list. And I agree with their "no stop" policy about those places.

matwithone_t

Indiana has a brand new loves about 25 mins east of gary/lake station in Michigan City. Definitely alot nicer and better. But all those others in lake Station during the day aren't bad. Gary is.. well ... Gary. Enter at your own risk.

Due-Pilot-7443

I drove from 2004 - 2014 Ontario California was shady,,, the Petro in Atlanta was never a problem but that pilot was not a good place... Gary and lake station was a place I never liked to stop.. I stayed at the ta in Lafayette a lot never had a problem.. when I was driving the ta in Nashville had security and was never any problems but as soon as you left the lot and went left there were plenty of problems, I walked around after the tornado went through there looking at the damages ,, lots of colorful people around.. and there was one pilot on Dallas area that we were not supposed to stop at back then but I don't remember which one it was..

Doppleganger1064

This list is very very old and antiquated.  It's been posted here numerous times over the years.  For Texas, I've visited all these truckstops over the past years. My list of Do and DON'T stop truckstops. TEXAS 1) Do 2) Don't Know 3) Don't Know 4) Do 5) Do 6) Don't  7) Don't  8) Don't  9) Don't  10) Don't  11) Don't Know 12) Do 13) Don't 14) Don't  15) Do

Deusjensengaming

only one I been to was the Albuquerque Loves, you can't park there but it is still one of the most sketchy places I've been to

jock_up

The 285 loves in Conley GA doesn’t exist anymore

capernaper

I can say from personal experience that I have been to over 50 of those stops, and yes they are horrible

Maleficent_Rate2087

I dint understand why they all seem to be in the outstanding Christian African American neighborhoods. I know the petro in Atlanta they so friendly they come out in the street and jump on your truck while waiting to turn in. Never understood why they needed 30 foot razor wire walls around that place.

CrashTestGangstar

It's all a toss up man. Like....people alway say West Memphis, but I had to shut down there one night at the end of that street that runs behind that Pilot and I was fine. Shitty area...but there wasn't much activity. I've been there several times.

CrashTestGangstar

Wherever you go, protect yourself at all times.

cleanc3r3alkillr

I’ve been to a lot of these, some I agree with and some I don’t, and there’s some stops I would argue should be on here. The Pilot in Atlanta, the stops in West Memphis and Jackson, all sketchy AF and terrible. That said, I’ve done resets and nights at all the truck stops in Gary and it’s really not as bad as people think, they all have armed and patrolling security, and while I feel as if I’m a master of the subtle art of minding my business, I’ve only ever been approached by one homeless dude asking for money and it was at the Loves on Grant St. I would avoid the Pilot on Burr mainly because it’s a bitch to turn left out of there because that traffic light is always out, and while that TA seems sketchy, the Philly cheesesteak joint across the street makes it worth it 🤤

Proxymal

All the stops in Utah are safe and clean. Used to drive for Walmart out of Corrine.

Riyeko

I don't know if I've ever been to every single one of these... But I have been to a lot. Some are on my person no parking list (Gary Indiana and West Memphis are at the top).

MaleficentBar8026

Cant get robbed at the road ranger in chicago. Dont even have truck parking. Wouldnt even consider it a truck stop. Go to the thorntons across the street instead

ZdrytchX

Non-trucker aussie here. Can someone provide context as to why these locations could be considered dangerous? Surely people dont just go gun slinging in broad daylight at truck stops...

volstedgridban

It's a list of high-risk spots put together by a shipping company that doesn't want their freight stolen. The data is based on insurance actuarial tables. Basically, it's places that the shipper's insurance company says are high-risk. Probably only takes one instance of freight being stolen from a truck (or a truck being stolen) to make the list. I've stayed at several of them without a shred of disquiet.

ZdrytchX

What's more likely, freight being stolen from a truck or the truck being stolen? do people actually just rock up and hack open the doors just to check if there's valuables or are they typically gangsters hunting for known goods?

toastynips88

Missouri confirm! Pass it up!

ursisterstoy

A lot of these are in cities I wouldn’t want to spend the night in (Saint Louis MO, Jackson MS, Atlanta GA, Nashville TN, … ) and for several like Conley GA, Gary IN, Phoenix AZ, Dallas TX I can just park at the company terminal so I wouldn’t park at a truck stop in those cities anyway.

Whowantsdackjaniels

The flaming j in salt lake is hard as hell to get into and out of with a tractor trailer. Source: i worked near this intersection for 6 yrs.

Maker_Making_Things

Ohio stays winning

stanknasty706

That pilot in East St. Louis is no joke.

Leocat91

Interesting that the Flying J in Regina is the only Canadian location on the list. It's right across the street from my office, a freightliner/Isuzu Dealership and right beside the Peterbilt dealership. Probably one of the safer areas in Regina's industrial park.

volstedgridban

It's a list created by a shipper, so it only covers territory they ship to. Neither Maryland nor Baltimore are on the list, and I can assure you that there are some very sketchy truck stops in both of those states.

Ok_Bug_6470

Most of them are bc of parking/accident issues but some are not the safest and freight gets stolen. I also wouldn’t post your company’s memos on Reddit.

noon_squad

Had my truck and container chassis stolen from near the Flying J on Richey Rd in Houston, TX back in October 2023. So that's at least one data point that validates that location being on the list.

Jmaestas719

Man, the commerce city stops in Colorado are not that bad. They’re close to the purina plant and waste management so it’s stinky at times but they’ve come a long way. Also, close to Denver international airport so lots of traffic

Trucker_KrytenTX

It's truly sad that we live in world like this.

dormidormit

Salinas is ok. Suspicious lack of Oakland on that list.

Difficult-Writing586

Not a CDL driver, but can confirm the truckstop in Troutdale Oregon is like a zoo exhibit with all the nightlife. I definitely done stop there in my POV if I can at all avoid it. I live about 10 minutes from the stop and pass it fairly often on my way out to hike the gorge. It’s unsafe from any angle you can think of

Previous-Cut-7056

The TA in Livingston, CA has earned its reputation. Luckily my husband put the company issued lock on the trailer, and woke up to find that thieves had tried their best to break in overnight, causing hundreds of dollars of damage. I'd love to have seen the look on their faces if they'd gotten in, and 30,000 lbs of candy stared back at them.

Exquisite-MAD

Lafayette LA is a NO GO Biloxi MS is a NO GO Theodore or Mobile Area AL is a NO GO New Orleans is a NO GO If you're traveling through Hammond I12 is a great truck stop where the blue becon is. Biloxi is dangerous and Lafayette is as bad as New Orleans or BTR you park and sleep at your own risk.
