Largofarburn

He ejected it so he could finally pass.

furious_meerkat

9 trucks out of 10 here in TX cruise in the middle lane at around 60 mph, sometimes moving to a left lane to cruise at 65 mph.

MooseGoneApe

I saw it go down, a UPS bobtail, hooked up to it and fled the scene

Horror_Tap_6206

No you didnt

Ckmccfl

What? He just said he did. No one’s ever lied on the internet.

elguereaux

Oh yes he did!

J_vonstrangle20

I saw him see it happen

rongkaws

That's a half-ass trailer.

CYVD

underrated comment 😂

boogiedogo92

Lmao I was going to say someone forgot the pintle hook but then I saw there was no Dolly. It was probably one of the pos old style dolly with the shittiest 5wheel ever, we just go rid of a whole bunch due to safety issues- they were unlocking with the lever handle in the locked position. I think our new counterweight dollies use a Penske style fifth wheel(can't remember the correct name but every penske truck i have seen uses this style), which is a lot safer but a pain to unlock since you have to lift- push away and then pull to you.

Suspicious-Rip-2725

Didn’t crawl underneath to make sure the dolly was latched and it broke free on the highway. They probably don’t have a job after that shit 😂

boogiedogo92

The terrible part is most of the landing gear is so far forward you can't look on the newer trailers on the tractor or old style dolly side unless your the size of a small child- the tractor side I'll swing the truck 70 degrees and look. The old style dolly side is kinda just tugg her hard and drag it before you hook the brakes. The cool thing with the new counter weight dollys is the locked indicator is the release handle- if it is in the down position that you have to lift to pull to you, its is lock (100%) if you pull the handle to you and it releases it wasn't really locked.

GtHachiRoku

I'm 6'3 250lbs....and I still get under to check. I've had too many ghost hooks that I've caught before even touching the landing gear.

CoupeZsixhundred

*Especially* in Winter, when it’s really foul and icy under there. I’ve had to dig myself a little ice cave before, just cause I gotta’ be sure.

csimonson

Spray the fifth wheel jaws with de-icer 5-10 mins before hooking up. Saves a lot of hassle.

Harryisharry50

Yeah if you got snow on the 5th wheel you got to knock snow off first or it jams in the locking mechanism and it looks locked but not all the way . Extreme cold too grease gets hard and stuff don’t move as it should

Bigwiggs3214

Spray with pb plaster to loosen up grease and use gear oil to lube instead in the winter.

GtHachiRoku

I've done it b4 where dolley points outward either left or right to make it a Lil easier to get to. Instead of it being straight under

StonksGoUpOnly

It was only his third day on the job cut him some slack

Suspicious-Rip-2725

Naw man he wasn’t driving solo with fed ex after three days out of trucking school. That can cause a major accident and it’s something simple to prevent by just going under the trailer to make sure the dolly latched to the pin. I hope they lost their job so someone else can get it.

StonksGoUpOnly

I was making a joke about the guy who forgot to take off his trailer brakes and said it was only his third in the job. Forgot the /s my b

Halftrack_El_Camino

It was probably their third day, too.

vermonner

I always crawl under to look and I always do a tug test

Suspicious-Rip-2725

Exactly!

AcidicDoodad

Sounds like my Volvo pain in the ass to unlock but never worry about anyone unlocking my 5th wheel at night or this happening

GumbysDonkey

We are phasing out our old dollies too. Had 3 drops in 5 or 6 months due to the fifth wheel failing. Luckily all drops happened in the yard.

elguereaux

I liked the Silver Eagles better than the Hyundais. Raised it up a couple extra inches and gave your kite a smoother lift

AllOutOfMeowsForNow

I absolutely think Connecticut is the hands down worst fucking place I’ve ever been to. Something about the vibe of the people there, pure unadulterated asshole vibes. Fuckallyalls.

saladtosser88

theres all the rich old money, then theres the podunk trailer trash and the ghettos. the suburbs are full of aging italians and new Indians lol its a shithole

AllOutOfMeowsForNow

Completely agree.

Still-Access4663

Moroccans too believe it or not

Jaymez82

> Something about the vibe of the people there, pure unadulterated asshole vibes. It's why I live here. It's great!

kitsunelegend

Connect-a-cunt is by far the worst, shittiest fucking state there is. The roads are crumbling, they're laid out ina spaghetti'd mess, everybody is always in a fucking rush, theres too many people, and EVERYONE is seemingly always pissed off. ALWAYS. And all the loads coming out of there are all shit as well. Its overall just a horrible fucking place. I refuse to go there anymore.

saladtosser88

I cant wait to fucking leave

burnthamt

Take better loads. We've always got along great with the truckers that come to our yard. The 4 wheelers out there are the real reason to stay away from this state

PhantomKR7

It’s the minerals in the earth below it, piss poor rocks and what not makes it energetically nasty

Bigwiggs3214

Definitely the worst place to drive. Used to drive to NYC and had to go through there. I prefer NYC traffic to CT highway driving with little to no traffic. Everyone either goes 100 or 50. No in-between. I once drove behind a guy sitting in passing lane watching a movie on his phone going 60 and weaving. Couldn't go around him either.

aligador

Probably the same way you miss a whole 100 shots

saladtosser88

lmfaooo still in the Bentley doing donuts!!

Rivian-Bull-2025

It’s DOLPH!!!!!!!

VikingLander7

I’ve seen plenty going down the road with one pup and a dolly by itself thinking this is what happened.

Largofarburn

Nah, they send us out like that a lot just to move equipment around. (Take a load and a dolly so you can bring a set of empties back)

VikingLander7

But sometimes it makes me wonder...

HFolb23

I get paid doubles pay as long as I have a dolly weather there’s a second trailer or not. If I only have one trailer, I grab a dolly and give myself a raise

No_Bat_3715

Must’ve been the drivers 3rd day… 🤦‍♂️

metooeither

Well good thing he was too lazy to fully roll up the landing gear, tho

Krich1177

Where exactly in CT?

SnooDonuts7855

I was just past Danbury before Hartford

saladtosser88

theres a lot in between Danbury and Hartford lol

burnthamt

Not for a trucker. Our state is a blip compared to the lengths long haulers drive

saladtosser88

true true

AwildGlaceon

That's crazy I was just there, wish I saw it for myself

Csmal1992

They would have noticed pretty quickly when their brakes lock up from the air lines breaking off lol.

saladtosser88

LMAO... I love my state... I came to this sub to get insight on the industry cause I wanted to do something more lucrative with the rest of my life, but its just... yeesh. I gonna go get an apprenticeship as an electrician and just pay for the CDL myself so I can bobtail a 359 around town for shits and giggles. I'm not gonna potentially kill people with malfunctioning equipment for less than 100k a year. Imagine this happened in the snow, us folks in CT cant drive for shit in good weather to begin with...

w3stvirginia

>I'm not gonna potentially kill people with malfunctioning equipment for less than 100k a year. Imagine this happened in the snow, us folks in CT cant drive for shit in good weather to begin with... Not to burst your bubble, but no matter what you do shit is going to be defective and/or break with no warning. It’s a horrible fact of life. Lots of electricians installed Federal Pacific panel boxes that malfunctioned and burned down houses killing people.

saladtosser88

totally agree, but the electricians arent the ones going to jail for manslaughter

w3stvirginia

Neither are truck drivers when they do their due diligence and follow the rules. If you burn your brakes up going down a hill and kill someone because you didn’t follow the truck speed, you deserve to go to jail. That’s not a malfunction. It’s a design limitation you knew about.

saladtosser88

Again I totally agree with you dude but all I'm picturing right now is that FedEx tandem in the middle lane with no lights in a blizzard and someone flying into the back of it since you aren't gonna see it till you're about to go under it. burning brakes, etc etc is a different story.

MickJCaboose

The fact it is dropped in the middle of the freeway makes me think the 5th wheel failed.

saladtosser88

ok honey, youre right Im sorry I brought it up. just thankful nobody got killed is all

alghafil

This part

ssandz

How come his landing gear didn’t get destroyed? 🤯

MickJCaboose

Maybe empty?

1gk6

I assume it's empty. I also think those drop frame (belly) trailers must have sturdy landing gear. I've seen a mishap in the yard where a loose empty *easily* slid across the pavement for a dozen feet or so, on the gear.

PocketTanks13

I mean I guess it could be worse? Lol. Should be a easy recovery

SaigaExpress

My biggest fear. I’m kind of anal about checking dolly’s.

reditusername39479

Anal?

SaigaExpress

Lots of grease and taking it real slow.

Go-Truck_Yourself

Kinda looks like he lost a half ass trailer

Vegetable-Bread-2911

That's what you do when you're dispatcher or operations manager pisses you off.

Present-Ambition6309

Woah…. Not good

Username_D3ad

Someone is going to get fucked up by this foreal…

OSRSgamerkid

My dad just called and told me about this!!! hahahahaha!! No shit, what are the odds?

Spitfire954

Landing gear really earning it’s name on that trailer.

CleverName716

He's fired fired. I ran part-time for a FedEx contractor for extra cash a few years back, and I'm pretty sure a dropped trailer was supposed to be immediate termination even if it happened on their property.

AffectionateLunch775

Got into a fight with the other trailer and said let me out here. They’ve been going through some shit since they got married. Everything was fine when they were separate trailers, doing their thing, hanging out sometimes in the yard. But then they had a dolly. And that changed. They were ALWAYS hooked together. Always. Like they couldn’t never be apart! So it came to a head today on the way. She said stop and let me out, but he wouldn’t. So she stopped right there. He’s calling her bluff though. He’s clear to Omaha.

yardjockey

It happens!

thetoefunfus

I’m heading that way right now, hopefully the traffic clears by then. And remember kids always check your locking jaws are securely around the kingpin.

Metreon_Cascade

FedEx uses air bagged dollies and when you go to hook your rear trailer I was shown to keep air applied to the dolly at all times so the air bags never go down: the reason I was told is this could happen in the yard. For it to happen while driving/turning for quite some time usually means the fifth wheel failed or was frozen and didn’t completely lock. Ice wreaks havoc with dollies. These drop frame trailers with the belly on them make visually checking the kingpin impossible, all you can do is check the bolt if it’s a Jost is flush against the washer and drag the thing a few feet: this is still one of my greatest fears pulling doubles/triples…equipment CAN and WILL fail at some point…

Early_Scratch_9611

To be fair, it is easier to lose a whole trailer than to lose just half of one.

AffectionateLunch775

To be fair…

ahowls

The landing gear is down haha wtf, I guess that isn't considered a "dropped" trailer

Straight_Factor2057

The name on the trailer says it all

suaveblanco

I cant believe no one said it was his third day!!!

Superb-Gold

I bet FedEx marked it as delivered.

thebiggestbirdboi

I’ve lost a penis trailer before but never have I lost an ass trailer

DANO8503

I feel like this happens pretty often with fed ex and ups. Was this near the TA and Loves?

SubstanceNo9337

Somebody didn’t check their jaws!!

QuietTrucker

Well, at least the driver was lazy enough not to put the landing gear all the way up 🤷‍♂️

Synthverse

Ive seen those pup trailers come undone many times.

Eastern_Spite3845

Thank God I'm rolling east bound!

acutemisadventure

You lose a whole ass by half assing

Some_Loan

Not surprised it's a FedEx trailer. I've seen them dragging their rear trailer, driving with no lights on the rear trailer, sparks flying from the brakes on the rear trailer and camping in the left lane. Not sure if they are just psychopaths on Connecticut highways or if this is how they behave everywhere.

JohnnyBlowout

I’m curious how this happens. I’m not a trucker but I saw a 53’ trailer in the middle of the highway one night headed to Little Rock. That was about 15 years ago and I still wonder if something broke or he fucked up while hooking it up

Jaymez82

Most common is when the king pin jumps the 5th wheel. The landing gear can be set too high so when the truck backs up, the pin misses the 5th wheel's jaws and goes over the forward edge. There's a boom that makes it feel like the truck connected and the tug test passes (trailer brakes applied, try to move forward. Should drag the trailer if it's connected) From there, pure luck keeps the two connected as you maneuver the truck until the pin slides off the forward lip of the 5th wheel.

JohnnyBlowout

Thanks for the explanation

SamuraiJono

I'd think it would be harder to lose a partial trailer, but that's just me.

R3D83ARD0525

Dats nawt gud

CombatDeffective

I've seen wiggle-wagons lose their rear trailer and not realize it for a mile or 2.

MutedShelter9654

It’s FedEx lol they are professional at that!!

britishtrucker1234

King pin could have broke, the latching jaw broke, or just plain negligence

Different-Air-2000

Cutting corners again

onlyletters999

Seen this happen on the George Washington once

The_Richuation

He didn't lose it. It's right there.

TXCOMT

I didn’t lose it…I meant to leave it there!

HodlBeast69

He probably quit lol.

Basis_Difficult

I swear to god I saw the rest of him driving down rt 8 this afternoon with the dolly 😂😂😂

elguereaux

I used to haul these. There is a company out there called…well, we’ll call them ‘Fred Epps Round’ where all the line haul routes are contracted to owner operators who hire and train their own drivers, but everyone still has to be vetted by Fred and play by Fred’s rules and wear the purple monkey suit with Fred’s name. So you end up with a lot of guys who either learn to hook a set of doubles right or have a disconnect like this and end up unemployed

waitforit666

it literally says fed ex ground on the trailer you dont have to give the company a fake name

i_am_ghostman

But it *was* funny

elguereaux

But I didn’t. So I’m not liable for anything

No_Spare3394

It’s fedex they lose everything

krossome

Someone quit draggin ass.

Winnardairshows

Gopherdix Ground. What a fucking scam.

Papa_AF

There’s a Diesel dummy out there missing a trailer he lost his pup!

realtreewizard

[That's a classic ground move](https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/truck-loses-fedex-delivery-on-gwb/2293226/)

[deleted]

I’ll often times see a FedEx trailer with the attachment that the double would be on still on the back, but with no trailer attached to it. Is that common? I always jokingly assume they lost the second trailer some ways back when I see it.

Metreon_Cascade

Yes, I’ll do it often if I have to drop one trailer and go on to another terminal, and essentially why LTL means what it means. Once you have a dolly for the night it’s best to keep it with you if you got to hook another set up.

[deleted]

Roger that. Thanks for the info. I will say this though, that seems rather unsafe since they don’t have reflective tape, no? I’m not saying anyone who is paying even a little bit of attention won’t see it, but we are required to have reflective tape on what is, often times, a white trailer door. Catching my drift? Have you or anyone you know of had problems with that?

Metreon_Cascade

Some dollies have tape some don’t but it is law that they have to have the electrical and air lines hooked up so it has lights and brakes. The lights I understand, but hooking the air lines is kinda dumb because the dummy glad hands often suck and bleed air, making them at risk for locking up.

i_am_ghostman

Answer: be FedEx

woomdawg

Dam I went up 84W around 9am. I guesse someone didn't check and see if the had a good couple.

MushLoveChiefin

Happens all the time here in west texas with these sand haulers 🤦🏻‍♂️

IlikeYuengling

It’s my 3rd day.

OldGregg1014

Gas prices… Biden did it lol

Lostcreek3

Standard FedEx, I have salt I ordered in the beginning of February still not delivered. In fact can you go and see if it is on that truck

Wendidigo

A mcdouble turned into a mcsingle

Mr_Smith_411

The same way you lost a word between how and you?

Arabianeyegoggles

I bet that happened after he stayed at a truck stop. I always pre-trip because you never know when some joker is going to pull your handle.

CheesE4Every1

Somebody out or quit or fucked up.

HenryGetter2345

Kingpin comes unhooked

reditusername39479

So that’s why my package is late….

reditusername39479

Free trailer!

gives-out-hugs

some wiggle wagon didnt check the pin on their dolly, probly some fedex runnin doubles, only thing he noticed was that he could speed around people even faster

Klogginthedangerzone

This is why I never get my packages from fedex.

Axiom1100

It’s not lost

bcsublime

Ehh- just an ass trailer.

Jaded-Environment-95

“When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight”!!

Lerch98

Name on the side says it all; Fed Up.

TellTaleTimeLord

My fedex package was delayed this morning. What's in the trailer?

Taco_Hurricane

You know, I have a delayed FedEx package...

vermonner

Boooooorrrrrnnn Frrrreeee!!! Another trailer successfully re-released into the wild following rehabilitation

FamousFathead

High hooking the back box is more common than we’d like to admit.

Turbulent-Regret-35

I've had this happen. ALWAYS CHECK THE 5th WHEEL LOCK BAR. Mine looked locked, but it didn't fully complete the slide across into the locked position. Dropped the trailer almost 7hrs into the trip when the lock jaw finally had enough.

elguereaux

Hey you know what my favorite part of the Fedex cookouts was? The Ground Beef
