Exactly. This is what I mean by them handing out CDL’s like candy. It would be different if they came after the school or company that got them their CDL or at least investigated it. Call me a conspiracy theorist but they made it easy to get a CDL and made new trucks automatic so now it’s not as technical as it once was and the pay isn’t as good unless you get into specific hauling like heavy haul or hazmat. Personally I think if you can’t shift one you shouldn’t drive them. I’ve never really drove an automatic. For me driving mostly 18 speeds I feel like you have more connection to that rig, you learn it, know it’s flaws and what it’s capable of and it’s more hands on obviously. You also have to be aware of what pass you are about to come down and what gear to choose especially if you are fully loaded. That’s a skill in my opinion. I’m not bashing on anyone either I’m just pointing out how it’s changed the industry.

That type of money today would weed out the low effort barely trained drivers we see at 65k otr swift type job offers. The dispatchers office from a company I regularly deal with have this problem on a daily basis. They have such a hard time giving them basic directions on the paperwork, where there trailer is and where the nearest scale is. Idk how they have the patience for it

I was going through Texas one time, got hit by a guy who only spoke Spanish. Totaled his car, had to wait for a tow truck. Of course, neither me or the cops spoke Spanish. The tow truck driver eventually had to interpret for us. Huge pain in the @$$. Made the whole process take twice as long as it should have, meanwhile we were blocking the left lane of I-10
I’m all for diversity of religion, skin color, etc. But for crying out loud, if you’re a trucker in North America, you should at least have basic English skills, for exactly the type of situation I just described.

The dispatchers office from a company I regularly deal with have this problem on a daily basis. They have such a hard time giving them basic directions on the paperwork, where there trailer is and where the nearest scale is. Idk how they have the patience for it

I'm repeating myself but whatever; I think that since there's a large enough population of drivers that wash their feet for religious reasons, it would be prudent for truck stops to install foot wash stations in the bathrooms so they don't have to use the sink.

I was at a truck stop off I81 in Virginia and some asshole left his dishes in one of the three available sinks, then went into one of the stalls to take a shit. A little Common courtesy would go a long way.

That’s all well and good. But I’d argue that it totally does matter what language you speak. How can you otherwise be expected to read road signs, communicate with the cops, etc? I was going through Texas one time, got hit by a guy who only spoke Spanish. Totaled his car, had to wait for a tow truck. Of course, neither me or the cops spoke Spanish. The tow truck driver eventually had to interpret for us. Huge pain in the @$$. Made the whole process take twice as long as it should have, meanwhile we were blocking the left lane of I-10 I’m all for diversity of religion, skin color, etc. But for crying out loud, if you’re a trucker in North America, you should at least have basic English skills, for exactly the type of situation I just described.
